NANA KOFI MAISON
Editor
A
wise man once said ‘when God solves
your problems, you have faith in HIS
abilities; when God doesn’t solve your
problems He has faith in YOUR abilities’.
The success we seek or the feat we wish
to cover will not come by mere wishes, but to
those who are willing to work earnestly in order
to achieve their desires. One thing we often
overlook is the ability to correlate other potentials
with similar interest to attain our goals.
Most relationships and organizations suffer
and lose progressive future due to their inability
to consciously align with others to create a formidable,
robust future.
But one needs to understand that seeking
alignment or partnership comes with a great
price in that we first have to work on ourselves
and looking within if we are ready to take such
steps.
I agree with one great mentor, Jim Rohn when
he said “To attract attractive people, you must
be attractive. To attract powerful people, you
must be powerful. To attract committed people,
you must be committed. Instead of going
to work on them, you go to work on yourself. If
you become, you can attract.” Being our maiden
edition, we at GhStar Magazine shall align
with our team, readers and clients to build one
great magazine firm on the face of the earth.
God help us!!!

STEP 1
Every relationship experiences its share of problems. But when things get so bad that you
wonder if the relationship is worth saving, that’s the time to step back and take a careful
look. One of the worst things either partner in a relationship can do is to make an emotional
decision before considering all the practical issues. As impossible as it may seem
when things begin to go wrong, there are steps you can take to save a dying relationship.
John Gottman, who conducts research on marriage and family dynamics, suggests that
often it’s emotional distance, and not conflict, that causes problems in a relationship.
HOW TO
Identify the problem. You can’t fix your
relationship until you know for certain
what is broken. Once you know what
went wrong, you can work on repai
ring the damage. Amy Botwinick,
author of “Congratulations on
Your Divorce: The Road To Fin
ding Your Happily Ever After,”
points out that you need to be
realistic and honest when eva
luating your relationship, esp
ecially if you are considering
divorce. Divorce might not ne
cessarily be the best option,
however Botwinick emphasiz
es that when individuals expe
rience serious problems in a re
lationship, it’s time to give car
eful thought to what it will really
take to make it work.
STEP 2
STEP 3
FIX A
Place things in perspective. Couples frequently
have to give each other space for a
while to sort things out. Having a little time
on your own to think gives you the opportunity
to calm down. Afterward, you might be
less likely to make rash decisions.
Assume responsibility for your actions, and
avoid blaming the other person. Partners
never should have to defend themselves, since
sincerity can have more of an impact on the
other person than arguing. If you want your
relationship to survive, it takes two to commit
to making it work. When couples show
empathy for each other’s feelings, they can
usually deal with their problems in a more
pragmatic manner.
DYING
RELATIONSHIP
STEP 4
STEP 5
Hebusci conscit Catam
tastis verdi.
Forgive each other. According to Mayo Clinic, forgiveness
can take time. However, a couple needs to
restore the trust in the relationship before partners
can move their lives together forward in a positive
direction.
Talk with each other, but not before you can talk
calmly and rationally. Keep the lines of communication
open, and discuss the problems in
your relationship openly and honestly.
Listen to what your partner has to say. This lets
him know that you respect him. Make him feel like
he can talk to you about anything that is bothering
him. A study reported in the July 2003 issue of
the “Journal of Personality and Social Psychology”
ried partners kept a daily diary for three weeks,
recording perceptions of their spouses’ regard for
them.
Compromise, especially in relation to sharing
problems and responsibilities. Determine whether
the two of you are working toward the same goals,
and if you are willing to work on solving your
problems together.

STORY
15 GH STAR MAGAZINE
GH STAR MAGAZINE 16
Our Board of Directors...
“….I placed a request for a cheque
book with my branch about 3
weeks ago. As of today, no one
has called to inform me whether
it’s in or not. Why is this taking so
long these days...? Have things
changed with your Bank…?” Those
were the words of an obviously
irate customer who had called me
on the phone to express her frustration.
It was not unusual to have
such an experience as my contact
details are displayed in our Banking
halls as a sign of our commitment
to service excellence. I listened patiently
to the customer and offered
to ensure that her needs were catered
to at the earliest time practicable.
Worrying though it was,
to hear such news from a client I
could ignore the fact that within
that feeling of distress lay a subtle
realization of how far we had come
as an institution. That day was
March 4th, 2013.
Since 2008 when we commenced
operations, BEIGE
Capital witnessed continuous
growth in scope, size and nature
of operations. From the
initial status of a money lending
institution, we have survived
the delivery of financial
services at the micro and small
scale levels and have now built
capacity to provide banking
services to medium-sized institutions.
Beyond gaining maturity,
our experience over the period
has usefully transformed
our understanding of the market,
our clients, our people and
even other stakeholders such
that our relationships are getting
better by age. Today, we
hold dear and remain more
resolute to our ideals–integrity,
discipline, commitment,hard
work and teamwork – as a
company.
Our credentials are modest for
now but not our aspirations…..
they are ambitious. We are and
would continue to invest more
in our people, systems and
procedures as well as other initiatives
that would support our
quest to becoming a successful
financial institution in our
time and beyond.
No matter how much you develop the necessary
skills to improve any given aspect
of your life, you can always get better.
There is no book, no method, no person, nor tool
that can bring you to perfection in any area of
your life. Getting better, improving yourself, is a
never-ending process.
These are a few ideas on what you can do now
that can have a significant impact on your life
and career now and in the future.
If you do anything, do this first one: learn
01. how to work hard and stick with something.
Learn how to turn off the distractions of
social media and focus on what matters most
to you. You’ll instantly be ahead of a majority of
your generation.
Keep learning new things. This is one of
13. the most underrated virtues and a prerequisite
for mental health. And it doesn’t have
to be a new language, or a musical instrument, if
you don’t have the time.
New words, games. ideas, philosophies etc.
Reading a random wiki page everyday, solving
crossword or sudoku can be equally refreshing
for the brain.
Be prepared for the unexpected. Life is
14. what happens when we are busy making
other plans. It may not necessarily be unpleasant
or bad but even if it is, try to handle it in
the best possible manner.
Pick up an athletic hobby that you can
02. do through the years, or your sedentary
academic lifestyle will do horrible things to your
posture, back, and gut.
Learn how to deal with interpersonal
03. conflicts. Read Crucial Conversations
and practice it’s a life changer
Learn how to talk on the phone with people
you don’t know. It still terrifies most
04.
people. You could use some of your free time to
read about ways to conquer the fear. The best
way to conquer your fear though is constant
practice.
Start some kind of little side venture to
05. learn entrepreneurial principles. Pursue
your passion. Even if you fail, you at least tried.
Buy and sell stuff on Craigslist, do anything. You
might need them if you’re in between jobs. Your
spare time could be put to good use.
Take a course on your favourite subject
06. and other topics that are very new to
you. It will force you to expand your world view
on different topics that could be of importance
in the future.
Meditate. Preferably every morning. If
07. you can’t do that at least ensure that you
quieten your mind for 10 mins during the day.
Don’t think about anything. Just listen to yourself
breathe. And BE.
Sort out your thoughts, verbalize them,
08. and then write down what comes to
mind. Take time to think through ideas, projects
or your interests and enjoy the peace that
comes with just doing nothing for a short period
of time.
Take an interest in psychology. Psychology
helps us analyze our thoughts and
10.
actions, and helps us understand our own motivations.
If you want to improve, you must first be
capable of looking at yourself from an objective
point of view, from outside yourself.
Create good habits. Our ability to improve
is largely determined by our hab-
11.
its. Our habits influence the way we respond to
any given situation, and ultimately they define
how efficient we can become. Work on your
habits and on your willpower, constantly.
Travel. Explore. Experiment. The more
12. things you will explore more experience
you will have. And these experiences will cherish
you, in future. So earn them, before it is too late.
Do not be afraid to take risks.
Keep improving in the field you are best
15. at. Focus on what fascinates you most.
The more you know about the topics that are
close to your heart, the more you will be able to
benefit from it in the future. Choose yourself and
develop that passion today.
Balance in life is essential. Don’t overdo,
don’t neglect. Like when playing a
16.
stringed instrument, the string must not be too
loose or you don’t get any music from it. If it’s
too tight, it can break. When just right, it can be
the source of magnificent music.
Balance is the key: rest and activity; diving deep
within and plunging into activity. Swing between
silence and dynamism, rest and activity. All
should be there, all in proper balance.
ON THE
COUCH
WITH
KALYBOS

TIME WITH KALYBOS
GH STAR: Good afternoon sir, how are you?
KALYBOS: I am fine, thank you.
GH STAR: In your own words, who is Richard
Asante?
KALYBOS: Richard is Kalybos the only BOS
with one “S” (giggles). Well, Richard is the only
son and latter child of Mr. Peter Mensa Owusu
and Mrs. Felicia Owusu of blessed memory, an
Ashanti from Kumasi Eyigya and a very good
Christian for that matter.
GH STAR: Can you share with us some challenges
you faced while growing up?
KALYBOS: I wouldn’t term it as challenges rather
a challenge which is the lack of motherly
love. I lost my mother at a tender age. Though
I substituted it with love and affection from my
dad and sisters, it could never suffice that of a
mother’s love which I never had.
GH STAR: Our condolences.
KALYBOS: It is well.
GH STAR: Can you share with us how you
managed to get into the industry?
KALYBOS: As a result of observing my father
do his own thing, I became obsessed with
the use of cameras. Consequently, the passion
began to grow in me .After high school,
I began to work with Sparrow Productions
where I assisted John Pasa who nurtured
me in photography so I enrolled into National
Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) to
study cinematography.
GH STAR: So why comic acting?
KALYBOS: I chose comedy because I wanted
to be part of those who could wipe the
tear of a distressed Ghanaian. I felt the urge
to make people happy and help release tension
so we begun the Boys Kasa Sketch. It
was an idea brought up by a group including
the producer-director Kofi Asamoah, Aho)
f3 Patri and me. We made it global and free
to make it accessible to all
“THE ONLY BOS
WITH ONE S”
GH STAR: Are some of the decisions you made
back then influencing your present life?
KALYBOS: Not really, especially back in high
school. I studied building and construction
hoping to be an architect. Contrarily; I branched
into acting which is a complete divergence.
GH STAR: What inspired you to pursue your
dream?
KALYBOS: I inherited it from my father who is a
professional photographer. While growing up,
I observed how he manipulated his camera, it
was so inspiring that I fell in love with his work
and now I find myself doing the same thing
and even more.
GH STAR: How long have you been in the industry?
KALYBOS: I can say that I was born into the
industry as a result of my father’s occupation
GH STAR: We believe you are versatile, multi
talented, you are on TV radio. What is your
secret?
KALYBOS: Talented? To some extent I would
say yes because it takes a talented person
to be both in front and behind the camera.
My secret is just one and that is God accompanied
by observation is what has brought
me this far. I couldn’t have made it without
his help.
GH STAR: Which celebrities do you believe
are the most influential?
KALYBOS: I really admire people with natural
talent and I think Kwaku Sintim Misa (KSM)
as well as Funny Face is the best match. I
admire how they articulate their vision to
make it a reality.
GH STAR: Where do you see yourself in the
competition of acting?
KALYBOS: Honestly I see myself as a beginner
who has a lot to learn. People sometimes
wonder why I don’t do stand-up comedy
but personally I think am not there yet,
as at now am into comic acting. Stand-up
comedy takes more practice than usual to
get there so I can say am still in the learning
process.
GH STAR: Who do you love more, friends,
family or yourself?
KALYBOS: I love myself, I know
you may be thinking that it’s a selfish
answer but no its not. I believe
if a person loves himself it gives
him an opportunity to open up to
show others that he really is in order
to be appreciated and loved
back. Hating yourself means you
do not believe in yourself.
GH STAR: Share with us your
likes and dislikes in terms of food,
women, music etc
KALYBOS: I LOVE FOOD- infact I
think it’s my only weakness specifically
fufu. For Women anything
goes so long as she’s a
good cook.
GH STAR: Do you have hobbies?
KALYBOS: I do have hobbies and
the primary one is swimming, it’s
a form of exercise for me and
helps in blood circulation and
I will personally recommend it
for stroke patients. I love being
in doors watching movies that
builds my cognition”
GH STAR: Who is your celebrity
crush?
KALYBOS: My celebrity crush is
Angelina Jolie. However in Ghana,
it’s a combination of celebrities
such as Rachael, Afia, Jocelyn,
and Becca. So honestly, I like
them all especially natural people
like Becca and Ahuofe Patricia”
GH STAR: What projects are you
currently working on?
KALYBOS: Currently I am working
on my second movie that is ‘Kalybos
in China’ and a couple of TV
series that
are being aired like ‘Guy Guy’ currently
on GTV as well as the ‘Boys
Kasa’ sketch.
GH STAR: Where do you see yourself
in the next 10 years?
KALYBOS: In Accra (giggles): Married
with two stubborn kids, to be
successful in my career, establish
a crèche and a film school. I would
also like to go international.
GH STAR: What advise will you
give to the upcoming generation?
KALYBOS: To the upcoming comedians
remember a thousand
miles begin with a step! Nothing
comes off easily; never give up.
With perseverance and passion
as a bedrock you can make it.
GH STAR: Thank you very much
and enjoy your day.
KALYBOS: You are most welcome

5 tips to make your hair grow faster
Any woman’s wish is to have a long, healthy
and beautiful hair. However, hair takes its
time to grow and we don’t usually tend to
wait for it. We feel the need to do something
about it. There’s countless options we can
follow, to speed our hair’s healthy growth. There’s
no such thing as magical potions to make it grow
suddenly though. If your purpose is to make your
hair grow from a shoulder’s length hair to mid
back length hair quickly, I’m afraid you won’t get it.
Technically all you can actually do, is to apply hair
extensions, clip on ponytails or long wigs.
If you know what patience means though, there’s
a couple of tips you can follow to maximize all
your hair’s potential and consequently make it
grow slightly faster than usual. Here are my 5 tips
to make your hair grow faster!
01. PRACTICE GOOD HAIR HABITS
If you want to have your hair grow faster, you need
healthy hair. Good hair habits will help you avoid
damaging your hair and keep it healthy.
Here some good practices:
1. Use a brush with natural boar bristles.
2. Don’t braid or put your hair in a ponytail when it
is still wet.
3. Avoid chemical treatments such as bleaching,
perms, coloring or highlighting.
4. Minimize heat styling with things such as hot
combs, hair dryers and curling irons.
5. Although the best thing to do, is to avoid using
heat styling, it is still important to dry your hairs
roots after washing it. I learnt this with a specialized
doctor. The roots of our hair take a long time
to dry whenever we wash it, between 2 and 3 days
actually. Therefore, it is extremely important to
dry it with a hair dryer. Do not forget the important
thing to is, is to dry your hairs roots, not the ends.
If you leave the ends wet, is no big deal.
02. MAINTAIN A HEALTHY DIET
Eating well and healthy is really important. You
must eat lots of fruits and vegetables. You
should also do a diet based on proteins. Since
hair is protein, a diet that is too low in protein
may cause some thinning hair or a retardation in
the growth cycle. For instance, fish, eggs, beans
or yogurt, are filled with protein. Soy protein has
also been found to be helpful in stimulating hair
growth.
Remember, beauty comes from the inside. In a
way, you are what you eat. If you feed yourself
lots of healthy nourishing foods your body will
reflect this.
03. FLAXSEED OIL
Flax Seed Oil is a blue flowering plant that is
grown on the Western Canadian Prairies for its
oil rich seeds. This natural oil is highly recommended
for the general well being and whole
body nutrition. It is a natural acids source that
are essential to keep our body healthy.
They are also good for the heart, reducing the
risk of coronary heart disease. The recommended
daily dose for most people is at least1,000 mg
taken one to three times daily. Therefore, if you
don’t eat much fish, you must take the Flax Seed
Oil supply in order to help your body have all the
vitamins you need and consequently speed up
your hairs growth.
5 tips to make your hair grow faster
GH STAR MAGAZINE
04. KEEP IT TRIMMED!
To cut your split end is very important. When
you ignore split ends, it ends up leaving you
with shorter hair due to breakage. Damage
to your hair will move up from the ends and
the only way to stop it in its tracks is to remove
it as soon as it happens. Do not forget
the hair starts growing from the root, not
the ends. Therefore, whenever the split ends
are cut, your hair follicle is working less to
repair split, dead ends and working more in
the root. If you cut the ends frequently, your
hair will grow faster and healthier. Trust me,
it’s true!
It’s always easy to talk though. It’s hard to
put it into action. I hate having to trim my
hair when I have worked so hard on making
it long! But it’s a need that will bring good
results in a long-term time. Just be patient
05. MASSAGE THE SCALP
Always give yourself a scalp massage. You
will want to massage your hair’s at least
three times a week. Use the tips of your
hands and firmly massage your scalp. Make
sure you cover the entire head. With a good
scalp massage you increase blood circulation
which enriches skin with essential nutrients
and oxygen. After a massage actively
circulating blood brings the nutrients to do
hair’s follicles. Besides, massage helps to
relax and improves the strength of the roots.
WELCOME TO THE WECHIAU COMMUNITY
HIPPO SANCTUARY WEB PAGE @ ARU
STUDIOS
The Wechiau Community
Hippo Sanctuary is located
in the Upper West Region
of Ghana. The Sanctuary is
a community effort that continues
to shine brightly as a success
story for conservation that
protects one of only two hippo
ponds that live in the Volta River,
Ghana. The people of the Wechiau
traditional area established
the community operated sanctuary
in 1999. The writer, Norman’s
introduction to the Wechiau
Community Hippo Sanctuary
came through the Calgary Zoo,
partners in the award winning
project. After visiting Wechiau, I
saw first-hand how the effort to
protect the hippos have not only
created a better environment for
the habitat but also has improved
the communities that reside within
the sanctuary. There is something
magical about Wechiau, to
visit the communities that make
the sanctuary a better place for all
in the Black Volta River. The
Calgary Zoo partnered with the
communities of the Wechiau
region to establish the Wechiau
Community Hippo Sanctuary.
The symbiotic relationship between
the people and the hippos
continues to evolve to this
day. To protect the hippos and
their habitat, the people of this
region of Upper West Ghana
made great sacrifices. Many of
the villages within the sanctuary
moved away from the river
to create a feeding/buffer zone
for the Hippos, this was a huge
undertaking. How can moving
away from water and managof
its inhabitants is special. “Norman
Nemeth. Norman’s travels
have taken him on two occasions
to Wechiau, once in 2007 and then
2009. The Wechiau Community
Hippo Sanctuary is running a
40km stretch of the Black Volta
River bordering Burkino Faso in
North West Ghana. Norman has
visited Wechiau twice, once in
2007 and again in 2009.
HISTORY OF THE
WECHIAU COMMUNITY
HIPPO SANCTUARY
“The history of the Wechiau
Community Hippo Sanctuary
and how it has evolved is an incredible
story. This summary of
Wechiau is a collection of tit bits
and articles that I have gathered
to share my passion for all things
Wechiau.”- Norman Nemeth.
The people of the Wechiau, according
to local legend, began
a special bond with the hippos
long ago. The following quote is
from Legend of Wechiau Guide
Book-People of the Wechiau
Community Hippo Sanctuary {
WCHS}, chapter two. “During the
slave trade our people were running
away to avoid being captured.
They reached the Black
Volta River and didn’t know how
to cross. Then they saw the hippos.
The hippos let the people
go onto their backs and carried
them across the river to safety.
When the enemy came they
saw only water and rocks. They
tried to cross on the rocks,
but, the rocks were in fact hippos!
Once a good number of
the enemy were standing on
top of the hippos, the animals
moved and the enemy fell into
the river and perished. As a result,
the hippo has become a
sacred animal.”-Gurungu-Naa,
Naa Bandanaa Chielinah II. It is
the ancestors of both the people
of Wechiau and the hippos
that have created a bond that
requires mutual efforts in protecting
one another. The Black
Volta River is home to only two
surviving ponds of hippos found
ing the environment benefit the
people? The communities that
reside within the Wechiau Community
Hippo Sanctuary have
benefited in investors such as
the Calgary Zoo Conservation
Outreach, NCRC, and there are
supporters as far away as Canada
and England. Eco-tourism is
very well executed in Wechiau,
with managing the environment
the people of the Wechiau Community
Hippo Sanctuary has
become a shining example of
conservation. Since the birth of
the sanctuary 17 bore holes for
water, 540 solar light systems
for people’s homes, two Primary
schools and a clinic are realities.
Protecting the hippos has led to
many developments that provide
the benefits that both the
environment and people of the
sanctuary enjoy. In 2008 the
Wechiau Community Hippo
Sanctuary received two awards
from the United Nations Equator
Prize. The awards recognize
the best examples of reducing
poverty through bio diversity.
“To visit Wechiau and see firsthand
how a community has
created industry while protecting
on instagram is anything to go by, then we
can say that the two artistes are in a romantic
relationship. Bisa Kdei who might be singing
Sarkodie and Akwaboah’s newly released
song “Mewu” could not hide his feeling of
missing the sexy songstress who has been
away from him for a while. Bisa Kdei took to
instagram to make it publicly known under
‘‘I think Jay Foley May Be Worshiping Another
kind of God he or she worships.
I can’t begrudge Jay
inspires him. He may be worshiping
another ‘god’ which
he sees in Sarkodie “,Yaa
Pono told DJ Murphy, who
then asked him who his favorite
hip-life artiste is? “Hahaha!!!
