Dear Parent
GOVERNING BODY OF BAGSHOT INFANT SCHOOL
We are currently seeking nominations for parents to stand for election as a Parent Governor at Bagshot
Infant School.
Governors have a key role to play in schools: it is the governing body who are responsible for ensuring
that the children at the school receive the best possible quality of education and care. Governing Bodies
do this through meeting regularly and visiting the school, in order to gain an understanding of how the
school operates, what its strengths are and the challenges that the school faces.
The governing body has 14 members in total, including a Local Authority nominated governor, Co-opted
governors, from the local community, staff governors and parent governors. All governors serve a four
year term of office and are expected to participate fully in the governance of the school. The governing
body meets four times a year and operates two committees, Children and Learning, and Resources,
both of which meet each term. This means seven meetings each academic year, which are scheduled
for a variety of times and on different days of the week, each last no more than two hours.
Being a governor is a valuable role that offers not just the chance to make a difference to the lives of our
children but also a valuable personal development opportunity. Training and development opportunities
are provided at no charge to governors and we do expect governors to take advantage of these, in order
to develop the skills required to deliver effective governance at Baghsot Infant School.

Parents are invited to submit nominations, using the enclosed nomination forms. Each parent must be
proposed and seconded by parents of registered pupils presently attending the school and the nominee
(i.e. parent whose name is being put forward as a governor) must also be a parent and signify their
willingness to become a parent governor. Please note that a parent is not able to stand for election,as a
parent governor, if they are an elected county councilor, or they work at the school for more than 500
hours in a school year.
Nomination forms must be returned to the school, marked for the attention of Miss K Aldred, by 12 noon
on Monday 23 November 2015. Nominations cannot be accepted after that time. Parents nominated

to stand for election may enclose with their nomination forms a short personal statement about
themselves, of not more than 100 words. Statements will be circulated to parents with ballot papers. If
only one nomination is received, the parent nominated will be appointed without a ballot. If more than
one nomination is received a secret ballot will be held.
The timetable for the election of the Parent Governor is set out below.
6 November 2015 Parents' letter with nomination forms sent home via Parent Mail.
Parents without access to Parent Mail will receive the letter and
nomination form via Pupil Post.
23 November 2015 at 12 noon Last day/time for returning nominations.
27 November 2015 Ballot paper sent to parents (if ballot required)
11 December at 2pm Date of count of ballot papers.
Nominations must be submitted to Katie Aldred, Headteacher by 12 noon on 23 November 2015.
