TIME WITH KALYBOS
GH STAR: Good afternoon sir, how are you?
KALYBOS: I am fine, thank you.
GH STAR: In your own words, who is Richard
Asante?
KALYBOS: Richard is Kalybos the only BOS
with one “S” (giggles). Well, Richard is the only
son and latter child of Mr. Peter Mensa Owusu
and Mrs. Felicia Owusu of blessed memory, an
Ashanti from Kumasi Eyigya and a very good
Christian for that matter.
GH STAR: Can you share with us some challenges
you faced while growing up?
KALYBOS: I wouldn’t term it as challenges rather
a challenge which is the lack of motherly
love. I lost my mother at a tender age. Though
I substituted it with love and affection from my
dad and sisters, it could never suffice that of a
mother’s love which I never had.
GH STAR: Our condolences.
KALYBOS: It is well.
GH STAR: Can you share with us how you
managed to get into the industry?
KALYBOS: As a result of observing my father
do his own thing, I became obsessed with
the use of cameras. Consequently, the passion
began to grow in me .After high school,
I began to work with Sparrow Productions
where I assisted John Pasa who nurtured
me in photography so I enrolled into National
Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) to
study cinematography.
GH STAR: So why comic acting?
KALYBOS: I chose comedy because I wanted
to be part of those who could wipe the
tear of a distressed Ghanaian. I felt the urge
to make people happy and help release tension
so we begun the Boys Kasa Sketch. It
was an idea brought up by a group including
the producer-director Kofi Asamoah, Aho)
f3 Patri and me. We made it global and free
to make it accessible to all

GH STAR: Are some of the decisions you made
back then influencing your present life?
KALYBOS: Not really, especially back in high
school. I studied building and construction
hoping to be an architect. Contrarily; I branched
into acting which is a complete divergence.
GH STAR: What inspired you to pursue your
dream?
KALYBOS: I inherited it from my father who is a
professional photographer. While growing up,
I observed how he manipulated his camera, it
was so inspiring that I fell in love with his work
and now I find myself doing the same thing
and even more.
GH STAR: How long have you been in the industry?
KALYBOS: I can say that I was born into the
industry as a result of my father’s occupation
GH STAR: We believe you are versatile, multi
talented, you are on TV radio. What is your
secret?
KALYBOS: Talented? To some extent I would
say yes because it takes a talented person
to be both in front and behind the camera.
My secret is just one and that is God accompanied
by observation is what has brought
me this far. I couldn’t have made it without
his help.
GH STAR: Which celebrities do you believe
are the most influential?
KALYBOS: I really admire people with natural
talent and I think Kwaku Sintim Misa (KSM)
as well as Funny Face is the best match. I
admire how they articulate their vision to
make it a reality.
GH STAR: Where do you see yourself in the
competition of acting?
KALYBOS: Honestly I see myself as a beginner
who has a lot to learn. People sometimes
wonder why I don’t do stand-up comedy
but personally I think am not there yet,
as at now am into comic acting. Stand-up
comedy takes more practice than usual to
get there so I can say am still in the learning
process.
GH STAR: Who do you love more, friends,
family or yourself?
KALYBOS: I love myself, I know
you may be thinking that it’s a selfish
answer but no its not. I believe
if a person loves himself it gives
him an opportunity to open up to
show others that he really is in order
to be appreciated and loved
back. Hating yourself means you
do not believe in yourself.
GH STAR: Share with us your
likes and dislikes in terms of food,
women, music etc
KALYBOS: I LOVE FOOD- infact I
think it’s my only weakness specifically
fufu. For Women anything
goes so long as she’s a
good cook.
GH STAR: Do you have hobbies?
KALYBOS: I do have hobbies and
the primary one is swimming, it’s
a form of exercise for me and
helps in blood circulation and
I will personally recommend it
for stroke patients. I love being
in doors watching movies that
builds my cognition”
GH STAR: Who is your celebrity
crush?
KALYBOS: My celebrity crush is
Angelina Jolie. However in Ghana,
it’s a combination of celebrities
such as Rachael, Afia, Jocelyn,
and Becca. So honestly, I like
them all especially natural people
like Becca and Ahuofe Patricia”
GH STAR: What projects are you
currently working on?
KALYBOS: Currently I am working
on my second movie that is ‘Kalybos
in China’ and a couple of TV
series that
are being aired like ‘Guy Guy’ currently
on GTV as well as the ‘Boys
Kasa’ sketch.
GH STAR: Where do you see yourself
in the next 10 years?
KALYBOS: In Accra (giggles): Married
with two stubborn kids, to be
successful in my career, establish
a crèche and a film school. I would
also like to go international.
GH STAR: What advise will you
give to the upcoming generation?
KALYBOS: To the upcoming comedians
remember a thousand
miles begin with a step! Nothing
comes off easily; never give up.
