LETTER FROM THE EDITOR...
Hi Everyone,
Dear valued readers and advertisers, welcome
to the re-launch of your favourite national
magazine SAIndia, I would like to take this
opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks
to the executive management of SA India for
awarding me this position of Editor.
I endeavor in the upcoming months and years
to fulfill my position by offering the reader
the best of news, lifestyle, fashion and hot
Bollywood gossip from India.
This August we release an exclusive
interview with Salmaan Khan with regards
to his upcoming film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the
phenomenal actor speaks about how playing
such a positive role has impacted his day to
day life and initially helped him and others
in becoming better people. The film Bajrangi
Bhaijaan was shot in beautiful Kashmir which
was the actors first time shooting there, he
talks to us about his “Valley Experience”.
This was also the second time that Salmaan
and Nawazuddin have worked together and
it seems that they have grown a much closer
relationship since the movie Kick. The actor
explains to us how he does not see himself
as a superstar which seems so surreal
considering the fact that this is the man who
not just rules but also governs the box-office.
Manish Malhotra presented the “Blue
Runway” Collection for Lakme Fashion Week/
Resort 2015. The designer introduced a new
dimension to his summer collection with a
social message of change. Hollywood actress
and fashion maven Roario Dawson joined
Manish Malhotra to present the longest
runway in the history of Indian fashion.
The grand reception of Shahid Kapoor and
Mira Rajut was known to be the wedding of
the year and was attended by the majority
of the bollywood celebs. The guests were
that were specially made by the magnificent
vendor Anu Mobile Paan Bhandar, the guests
were also given special gift boxes as thank
you favours from the newly wed couple.
Designer Kunal Rawal had to design 10 outfits
for the groom. The beautiful bride was seen
in Anamika Khanna creations as well as a
COVER FEATURE
BEING
HUMAN
This man has ruled Bollywood for the last
25 years. He has seen the best and the
worst. And even during the worst phase
of his life, he has got tremendous support
from all his fans, his well-wishers and
his family. He is the ‘man’ who not just
rules, but also governs the box-office.
We are talking about none other than Salman
Khan, the very man who is all geared up to
take the box-office by storm with his upcoming
film Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
Salman, you are playing a very different
character in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, unlike your
other films.....
The character that I play in the film is that of
a simpleton. Even though my character in
Bajrangi Bhaijaan is that of a simpleton, the
backdrop in which the story of the film has been
set is so large that gradually my character in the
film becomes as large as the film’s backdrop.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan is basically my character’s
journey towards becoming a better person
and in a very positive manner. Yes, in my other
films I have been like a superhero, who is
already a nice person, but in this film given the
circumstances I try to become a better person.
What is that one thing that will always be
etched in your mind from the movie Bajrangi
Bhaijaan?
Whichever movies that I am doing now, if my
character is a noble one, I ensure that I try
to retain as much as 70-80 percent of (my
character) in my real life personality. The
characters that I do are always larger than life...
larger than my life I mean! The films that I am
doing right now have definitely helped me and
others to be a better person in life.
Has your father seen Bajrangi Bhaijaan? If
yes, what has been his reaction?
Yes, my father has seen the film and he
absolutely loved it. His reaction was ‘I haven’t
seen a film like Bajrangi Bhaijaan in the last 20-
25 years.
This is the first time when you have shot
your film in Kashmir. How was the ‘Valley
experience’?
Yes, this is the first time when I shot a film in
Page 8
www.saindiamagazine.com
Kashmir. The last time I had been there was
during the Kargil war. It’s rightly said that
‘Kashmir is definitely heaven on earth’. I just
hope that life opens up for the people staying
there. The Kashmiris are absolutely lovely
people, who deserve a real lovely life. One
just cannot live in heaven and experience hell.
The people out there are very simple and are
extremely down to earth. One could simply
look at their faces and their expressions to
distinguish between a Kashmiri person and a
non-Kashmiri. People say that ‘one should go
to Kashmir before you die.’ But, I would say that
one should go at least 10-15 times to Kashmir.
Will you shoot your future films in Kashmir
as well?
Yes, very much.
Is it true that Kashmir doesn’t have theatres?
Yes, it is true that Kashmir doesn’t have any
theatres! That is the first thing that I asked
them at the press conference which was held
there. I was shocked to know that while the full
family likes to watch movies together, still, they
don’t have theatres. I feel that with the advent
of theatres, Kashmir will surely and definitely
progress. They will start getting entertainment
tax and there will be growth.
You were absolutely in love with Harshaali?
She is a lovely girl. Back then, we always knew
that if we did not get the girl of our choice, we
can always fall back to Kabir Khan’s daughter
Sairu. Harshaali was a surprise. She did not
have any inhibitions. In fact she came up to
me and said, ‘Please make me a superstar like
you’. I said, ‘Beta, let me become a superstar
first!’ (Smiles). After the selection, the film’s
makers did some classes and workshops with
her. She used to freak out only when she used
to see action and aggression.
Unlike your usual regulars, Bajrangi
Bhaijaan has music composed by Pritam.
Any specific reason for this?
Kabir Khan had promised to work with Pritam in
his next film. That’s why. As far as he gives us
good music, it is ok. At the end of the day, it’s is
all about the music.
You are working with Nawazuddin Siddiqui
for the second time. How was it?
Nawazuddin Siddiqui and I worked for the first
time together in Kick. This was our second
time and we were more of friends now. We did
our workouts together and also had lunch and
dinner together.
Recently, Kareena said that ‘Salman doesn’t
know how big of a superstar he is’. Don’t
you consider yourself as a superstar?
No, I don’t consider myself as a superstar at
all! I am only doing my job and the director’s
only enhancing your performance and the
DoP’s enhancing you and your look 10 times
more, and the efforts and the hard work of the
technicians. Since I am in reality check with
all these factors, I don’t consider myself as a
superstar at all.
How true are the rumors about Sajid
Nadiadwala getting all three Khans in a film?
No (smiles).
Cont......page 10
www.saindiamagazine.com
Page 9
Do you think that such a film is possible
anytime?
Economically, it won’t be possible, unless he
(Sajid Nadiadwala) plans to have one or two
shots of all three of us (the Khans) in the film!
Speaking about economics, can’t you all
come down on the remuneration for such a
film?
It has taken us a whole 27 years to reach where
we are today!
You have always portrayed very strong
characters in your films are you the same
kind of person in real life too?
I am a strong and firm person. I am pretty
capable of taking stands and no matter what;
I will take a stand of the things that I firmly
believe in. My characters are basically all of
these things put together.
What’s your take on Raees and Sultan
coming together? Do you think that it will
affect both the films’ business?
I think it is affecting you guys (the media) more
than me! (Smiles).
Any plans to sing in any film?
I have tried my best in singing and I am still
trying. I enjoy alot when I sing, but people
around me hate it (laughs). That’s the reason i
still believe in bathroom singing.
You said earlier that you will marry the
person of your parent’s choice, is it true?
That was then. Now, I am ready for a love
marriage....
Or are you trying to make people jealous by
living a single happy life?
Even I feel the same thing, I’m better off like
that, even my friends who are married are trying
to get me hooked in this crap, I almost get
convinced, I’m happier off like that, but am still
trying to have a child without getting married.
First, I wanted to get married. (Nahi hua) and
one by one everyone started getting married.
One day Sanjay Dutt almost got me convinced
about marriage. He said, I want you to settle
down and be happy. It is like the most beautiful
life. You think that once you get married, your
other stuff will stop — women, party, drinks. It’s
all crap. Once you come back home, you are
tired, you have a glass of wine, have a candlelight
dinner, so sweet it is, go for a walk, hold
each other, go to sleep, hug her, kiss her, wake
up in the morning. She makes breakfast. But
I know that is all rubbish. I do want to have
a child, but with child, the mother comes. And
when the mother comes, big complications
happen as I am not the husband material. I am
the father type. It will be unfair for anyone to
think that I will change him. I will not change. I
sometimes feel surrogate type (ka ho jaye), but
then look how close we are to our mothers so
when the kid grows up he or she will ask (maa
kaun)? They will then think that my father for
his own selfish reasons has kept us without a
mother. And then my parents too would like to
see my children. So it’s all very complex.
Will Sonakshi Sinha be doing Dabanng 3?
If Dabanng 3 happens, which we are in the
process of writing now, then, yes…
What’s happening on the No Entry’s sequel
front?
I have said yes to the film. Anees Bazmee is
working on the script right now. Let’s see how
it goes.
Can you please confirm if Kick 2 is
happening or not?
I am doing another film with Sajid Nadiadwala. I
am not sure which film.
What’s the status on Prem Ratan Dhan
Paayo?
The film is almost complete, with just a bit
of climax and a song to be shot. It is being
scheduled for a Diwali release. I wish I had a
release for Christmas as well, but… (Laughs).
Who Is The Lead Actress From Sultan? Is it
Kriti, Parineeti or someone new?
How can you hear these things, who said about
her! Well only I know about this and Kriti knows
about it (laughs) I don’t know who the girl is,
two three girls but I don’t know, I’m not allowed
to tell you that. Well I tell, you are pretty close,
(Giggles) but I’m not allowed to tell you her
name. Very close, one more name. New girl,
big name.
Who Are You launching Next?
There is some new girl, well she is big, maybe
she can be for Sultan, but I’m not launching as
it’s not my film (as a producer). Wait for some
time, you will know soon.
You had once said in an interview about
launching a Digital Media Initiative by taking
1 Rs from every fan. What’s the status on
that?
We are working that out, I am surprised no one
has taken that idea, I think, I was told Mukesh
has done that with his people, we are trying to
do alot of things, I think they will all start working
as soon as I’m close to 50 which is the new
27th.
If given a chance to do a Biopic, whom
would you like to portray on Screen?
I would like to play Dharamji (smiles).
What gives you a kick in your life?
It keeps changing, but at this point in time in
my life, I want that people should have so much
trust in me that they should know that (agar isne
keh diya na, toh) he will try his best to make it
happen. Secondly, that we trust him and that he
will never cheat us. If he is saying something,
blindly trust him. That would be perhaps the
most difficult task to achieve in your lifetime.
(Marne ke baad toh sab log bol lete hain) the
man was good. But while I am alive, I want
people to be able to trust me blindly. My life’s
ambition is to take Being Human to such a level
that a 100 years or 200 years down the line, it
should be the biggest brand in the world. The
actor would be forgotten, but it would be difficult
for anybody to surpass this mammoth of a
charitable trust. My life’s ambition is for people
to know that the money goes towards charity
and not towards administrative costs. I hope
people from constituencies invite us to take
care of their constituencies. Not as politicians,
but as social workers. They should feel that
yeh Being Human social party (ko khada karo).
They will do their best. This is the way I look at
politics. Politics for me is social work.
Do you feel hurt when someone you have
helped turns out to be different than what
you had thought?
At one point in time, I used to feel bad that
(isne bewakoof banaya). But it is my fault, as I
need to be smarter than them. When someone
comes and fools us for money, my only regret
is that the next honest person suffers. Being
Human has started now in an organised way,
but this stuff has been done by my father for
the longest time. Our personal money would
sometimes in the past go to the wrong people.
Now, the money is channelised and it only goes
to hospitals, doctors and schools and charitable
trusts. It does not go to individuals. I still keep
on trusting people and believe them for what
they are telling me on face value. I feel no one
out of choice will want to betray your trust. It is
their own (majboori) that makes them do that.
Do you feel insecure about losing your
parents given your attachment and
dependence on them emotionally?
No and I’ll tell you why. I believe that we 5-6
of us in our family are not together from this
life alone. We have been playing father-son,
mother-son, sister-daughter, brother-sister to
each other life after life and we keep coming
back to each other. We keep playing different
relationships in every janam thinking, chalo he
used to be my son earlier, now he will become
my father in my next life. So we have no fear
of loss, as we all will come back to each other.
What annoys you as a person?
There is so much of pressure on an actor from
the food he eats with no carbs, which makes
him irritable and tired all the time, you have no
sleep, you are working all the time, you have
10 different things to do, you have the press to
handle, so you sometimes snap. It will happen
to anybody and you can’t control that. Most of
the time when an actor sees his own reaction
on TV when he goes back, he feels, why did we
have to give them this material and the media
knows that, but they are wanting us to react so
that they can carry it and make news of it. We all
have some goodness and some weaknesses.
As media, if you choose to show bad things that
can influence the younger generation, it is a
choice you make. If your objective is to show us
as bad people, that also is bad as then people
will see less of our films and that will impact
the entertainment industry that pays so much
taxes. If you are going to take pictures of stars
with them smashed, eyes shutting, smoking
cigarettes in the hand, we may look damn
cool with this, but it is the wrong thing to do as
people and more importantly, our kids will follow
it. Why are you giving those kind of images? For
you it is just a job to make money. But the larger
picture is that you destroy future generations.
Do you want to give a message to
photographers who want to break through
the security of a celebrity to shoot them?
The sixth edition of GQBestDressed event was held in association with Van Heusen
For the first time an exclusive ‘Style Special’ supplement for Best-Dressed Men in India featuring Ranveer
GQ India Editor Che Kurrien presenting a Rado watch to Best-Dressed Man Arjun Kapoor along with Simran
GQ Van Heusen to celebrate the most
India, the ultimate authority in
of the annual GQ Best-Dressed
stylish men in the country. GQ India’s 50 Best-Dressed
Men [2015] is a definitive list comprising India’s 50 sharply
dressed men across industries. The men appear in no particular
order, and are not ranked. The event was held at The Four
Seasons, Mumbai, in partnership with Grey Goose & Rado,
and saw the country’s most stylish men mingle with the swish
set of the city.
Commenting on the occasion, Che Kurrien, Editor, GQ India,
said, “The Best-Dressed Men in India 2015 is our annual
tribute to the razor-sharp set of individuals who combine flair,
intelligence and innate style to set the country’s sartorial gold
standard. Buoyed by the past success of the Best-Dressed
franchise, we set our ambitions high for the sixth edition, and
the result: a sleek 80-page book featuring The List, produced
independently of the main issue for the first time. Not surprisingly,
joining the ranks of these dapper gentlemen is Akshay
Kumar, the cover star of our June issue, easily the fittest 47
year old alive.” Further, talking about Ranveer Singh being on
the style-special cover, he added, “The eccentric gentleman
on the cover, Ranveer Singh, is a past winner of GQ’s Most
Stylish Award, and a dude who wields his style like a deadly
weapon. Always looking to push boundaries and experiment,
he never takes himself too seriously – a trait that makes him
arguably the most relevant actor today.”
Power packed with Mumbai’s glitterati, the evening was charmed
by Abhimanyu Alsisar, Aditi Rao Hydari, A D Singh, Akshay
Kumar, Akshay Oberoi, Ali Fazal, Anil Kapoor, Anish Sood, Ar-
BOLLYWOOD FEATURE
Tina Datta
Ravi Dubey - My favourite song is Baarish from movie
Yaariyan. I like this song because first of all this song is very
relative. Secondly it has a very soothing feel to it. It’s so true
when you are in love you are a different person all together
especially when you are with that someone special. So that’s
why this line.
Mrunal Jain - Ek ladki bheegi bhagi si... Sung and enacted
by Kishore da himself.....film Chalti Ka Naam Gadi... Kishore
da’s playful energy and ever beautifully Madhubala sensuality
under the rain makes it a
most favourite romantic rain song for me.
Ajay Chaudhary - ‘Aaj rapatt jaaye” to from ‘Namak Halaal’.
Film was an absolute entertainer. I remember the whole English
commentary etc from it. About the song.... I think I was
just starting to figure out what sensuous actually meant. And
the epitome then was Smita Patil. Aur.... Gaane me namak hai
Rishina Kandhari - Tum hi ho with umbrella from movie
Ashiqui 2. My most favourite and love those songs. Because
this song plays in any nerves. I love it so much the lyrics are
superb.
Rashami Desai - My favourite song is Pyaar hua ikrar hua...
pyaar phir kyun darta hain dil from movie Shree 420. I enjoying
listening to that song it’s a very pleasant song.
Tina Datta - Dekho barish ho rahi hain it’s raining it’s raining
it just makes me happy and I start dancing, love rain. Tip
tip barsa paani and Mohanbat barsa dena tu saawan aaya
hain makes romantic rains any day makes you romantic with
these songs.
Shraddha Arya - Rimjhim Rimjhim... Rumjhum Rumjhum...
Bheegi Bheegi rut me tum hum hum tum... (From 1969 a
love story)
Navina Bole - Tip tip Barsa pani. Love the lilt and tune of the
song. Also Akshay Raveena’s sizzling chemistry was a treat
to watch along with the whole moonlit and drenched ambience.
Can’t think of a more
sensuous rhythmic and beautiful rain song.
Vahbiz Dorabajee - When I think about rain the first song that
comes to my mind is Tip Tip Barsa Pani.
Aniruddh Dave - Deewana huaa baadal I love the lyrics I
can hear it of monsoon too. It’s in my playlist forever. Most
romantic rain song. In monsoon if you go on a drive. Uff
nothing like it Mohammed Rafiji voice and energy of Shammi
Kapoorji is awesome.
Natasha Singh - Rim jhim gire sawaan...the male version.
Besides being one of my all-time favourite classic songs...it’s
also the most romantic rain song I have ever heard.
Janvi Vora - Bahon ke darmiyan from Khamoshi film. Very
romantic in a romantic weather and very melodious. It’s very
soothing to hear and makes me fall in love again and again
with my hubby.
Ridhi Dogra - I am an old fashioned romantic. I absolutely
Gaysil Naubert: the new
This hottie will set the screen on fire with
some high intensity dance moves in her
next film, Yahan Ameena Bikti Hai.
Gaysil Naubert has already carved a niche
for herself as a dancer, a choreographer, a
singer and a model. She will now be seen
as the new “item girl” in the Oscar-nominated filmmaker,
Kumar Raj’s next venture, Yahan Ameena Bikti Hai.
The Mumbai hottie will set the screen on fire with some
high intensity dance moves soon. “The filmmaker (Kumar
Raj) approached me for a concept-based special
number in his film Yahan Ameena Bikti Hai and I was
kicked about it and immediately agreed to be a part of
the peppy number. He wanted someone, who could carry
it off well and I was the ultimate choice of his,” says Gaysil.
The film, Yahan Ameena Bikti Hai, is being shot in Mumbai,
France, Gambia, Senegal and Togo. Kumar Raj’s Hindi
film, Tara – The Journey of Love & Passion, got an appreciation
at many international film festivals and won as many
as 30 awards.
Trained in western classical, ballet, jazz, tap, salsa, flamenco
and contemporary dance, Gaysil made her debut into the
Bollywood industry with a dance sequence with Hrithik Roshan
in the film Koi Mil Gaya in the song titled, It’s Magic. She
has also featured with Aftab Shivdasani in the film Muskaan
and many other films where she performs either as an item girl.
She has featured in about 10 Kannada and Tamil films either as
an item dancer or singer.
Tollywood filmmakers seem to be quite taken in by the charms
of Gaysil. She has also stirred the world of Tollywood with her
performances in 7/G Brindaban Colony in the song January
Madam and also in the title track of the film, Party, directed by
Ravi Babu in the song titled, Kiss me Lachmi. “I am certainly
looking forward to do item numbers in the Telgu films.
Her initial introduction to filmdom was theater and she has
done several successful tours of Europe and the United
States as a theater artist. After coming back from the
United States, Gaysil decided to exercise her vocal
chords and got her first break from BMG Crescendo
as a lead singer in an all-girl band. The album was
a rocking success and there was no looking back
for Gaysil from then on.
Having done hundreds of corporate events,
product launches, award nights, beauty
pageants’ and fashion shows as a singer,
a dancer, choreographer and as a model
across the world, Gaysil is looking forward
to the release of her forthcoming film, which
will project her into the big league of Item
Queens.
Esha
Gupta to
York!
Going under the needle, could
be a daunting task for many,
and Esha Gupta is no exception.
After contemplating getting
a tattoo done for the longest
time, the actress has finally zeroed
in on a couple of designs
and will ink them at a friend’s
tattoo parlour in New York.
Says a friend of the actress,
“Esha and her friend are currently
working on a few eccentric
philosophies that she believes
in. It’s going to be one of a kind.”
Swara joins
Tibetan monastery
Swara Bhaskar has had a heady set of weeks following the smashing success
of ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ where her performance has been hugely
appreciated by industry, critics and audience alike. Looks like the talented actress
decided to take time off the continuous success parties and post-release
excitement. Word has it that Swara has taken off to the pristine mountains of
Himachal Pradesh where she has enrolled into a course in Tibetan Meditation
in a monastery.
Sources close to the actress say,”Swara felt that she needed some solitude
and some time to reflect and rejuvenate after the crazy partying post Tanu
Weds Manu Returns, and before she returns to her shooting schedule for her
next. She has always admired Tibetan spirituality and decided to go spend
some time learning and practicing Tibetan meditation at a monastery near
Dharamshala.”
The actress herself confirmed the news via messaging and said, “There
is a certain crazy pace to life in the industry. Every now and again i
feel the need to get out, reorient and ground myself. However i have
never tried mediation before. This time life and work felt far too chaotic
and i also feel calming down will help my acting, so some Tibetan
friends have referred me to this meditation course in this monastery.
I am excited at this new realm of experience and i think it will be challenging
but also positive to be cut off from the hectic pace of Bollywood and also the
pace of my cellphone’s alerts.”
Wow! Here’s an actress who is certainly not going to let success get to her
head!
Katrina Kaif to do
Kung Fu with Jackie Chan
The actress signs a movie with the martial arts master himself. Katrina Kaif is clearly
at the highest point in her career right now. With her last movie being a blockbuster and
three mega projects in the pipeline for her, she is surely soaring high. Add to that, word is
that she’s signed an international project with none other than the Kung Fu master, Jackie
Chan. Hong Kong based filmmaker, Stanley Tong, will direct the film. The film, titled Kung Fu
Yoga, will have the actress playing the role of an Indian professor at a Chinese University.
Jackie Chan plays the role of a Chinese archaeologist who asks for her help in order to unearth
the treasures from the Magadha era. The story involves them setting out on a treasure
hunt starting in King Bimbisara’s dynasty, who ruled the Magadha Empire around 542 BC to
492 BC. The professor and the archaeologist will also be shown travelling back in time and
interacting with the royals. Since the movie stars Jackie Chan, it is bound to be action-packed.
Jackie Chan had earlier mentioned in May 2015 that he would be keen on an Indo-Chinese
collaboration and it looks like he’s found his match in the gorgeous Katrina. Sources reveal
that even Katrina will be performing stunts and after her fiery punches in Ek Tha Tiger, we are
certainly looking forward to this one.
Kangana to charge
6 crores for a film!
The ‘Queen’ has become one of the highest paid
actresses in Bollywood.
After the success of Tanu Weds Manu Returns,
Kangana Ranaut is soaring sky high. The actress
who has a penchant for trying unique roles has
rewritten the rules of being a successful actress.
Trade gossip is that because of the unprecedented
achievement, Kangana has now doubled her
price to a whooping Rs 6 crores per film from Rs.
3 crores.
In an industry where actresses are fighting for
equal pay, this sure is a bold step. Anyway, who
can argue with a successful actress as long as
she keeps giving us interesting movies!
Ranveer Singh!
Deepika Padukone feels that she looks better
with Ranbir Kapoor than Ranveer Singh! Not
just that, she also feels that Ranveer Singh
has better chemistry with Anushka Sharma
than he has with her?
HOT GOSSIP
Anyway, how do we know this? Because
Ranveer Singh said this himself in an interview
to a magazine!
Deepika is going through her golden period.
I had the privilege to acting in such close
tandem with her in Bajirao Mastani. Now,
we have intense romantic scenes together.
Deepika does not think so but I think our
chemistry is extra special. Deepika feels I
look better with Anushka and she looks better
with Ranbir Kapoor. I am not of that opinion; I
have a point to prove to her on that.
Esha Deol gives
box cricket league
launch a miss
Esha Deol, who owns a team in the upcoming
Punjab edition of the box cricket league, was
conspicuous by her absence during the tourney’s
launch in Mumbai despite the invite bearing
her name. The event was held just a day
after her mother Hema Malini’s controversial
tweet about the Dausa road mishap sparked
outrage. Says a source, “Her absence made it
clear that she wanted to steer clear of the media
and their barrage of questions about her mother’s
remarks.”
While Esha was not available for comment,
Sunny Arora, creator of the box cricket
league, says, “Esha owns a team, but I do
not know why she did not attend the event.”
Lately, the actress-politician faced a lot of flak
for blaming the father of the four-year-old girl
who was killed in the July 2 mishap near Dausa
in Rajasthan. Hema, who had escaped with minor
head injuries, had tweeted: “How I wish the
girl’s father had followed the traffic rules, and
then this accident could have been averted and
the li’l one’s life safe (sic).” This was met with
sharp criticism not only from the Twitterati, but
also from most media organisations.
Kareena waiting
Katrina’s wedding
Ever since Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif
moved in with each other, everyone has been
wondering when they are going to tie the knot.
While rumours suggest that the duo might walk
down the aisle soon, they both insist that marriage
isn’t on the cards for them anytime soon.
But RK Jr.’s cousin, Kareena Kapoor really
wants the couple to take the wedding vows.
Previously, during her appearance on Koffee
With Karan with Ranbir, Bebo had said how
she would dance to Chikni Chameli on Ranbir
and Kat’s wedding. And now, she told Filmfare:
I don’t know if and when is the wedding. I can
only react when Ranbir himself tell me about
the wedding. They make an amazing pair and
she makes a brilliant girl for him. I wish them
nothing but the best. I highly recommend marriage
to them.
Dino Morea, MS
Dhoni bond over
bikes!
Dino Morea and the Indian Cricket team captain,
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who have known
each other for several years now, have more in
common than their love for fitness and share a
passion for swanky bikes too.
In fact, sources reveal how Dino was extremely
impressed with Dhoni’s collection of Yamaha
RD 350 bikes which also inspired him to get
one for himself. The bike enthusiasts – Dino
and Dhoni also shot an ad for an oil company
recently that has been receiving overwhelming
response.
A source informs, “Both Dino and Dhoni are
crazy about bikes and likes going for long distance
ride. During the ad shoot, they spoke enthusiastically
about bikes and the technicalities
including engine, power, speed etc. Apart from
that Dino also consults Dhoni when it comes to
bike and they are often meeting and discussing
on the same.”
Dino informs, “From the time I first met Mahendra
Singh, a few years ago, until now, whenever
we meet, it’s always a fun time. He has
a great sense of humour. I have worked with
him on a few occasions too, and as everyone
knows, he is a thorough professional. We also
enjoy each other’s company and also plan road
Response to Aamir Khan’s
casting tweet
makes server crash
Aamir had just last week tweeted that his banner is in search of
a fresh female face, who can act as well as sing, for their next
project. In less that half an hour after Aamir’s tweet, the response
was phenomenal and there where more than 3,000 entries. All
of these entries were heavy as they all had a video attached.
This lead to the crashing of the server, said a source. Aamir had
just last week tweeted that his banner is in search of a fresh female
face, who can act as well as sing, for their next project.
Chandan, who will make his directorial debut with the film, said
in a statement: “We sat up all night downloading attachments
and backing them up so that we could empty the inbox! I still
haven’t managed to go through all the entries and the casting
team is working round the clock to catalogue the submissions.
“We’ve started calling people for auditions. This is really exciting!
Let’s hope we find our girl soon.”
Chandan previously used to work for Aamir as one of his team
members and has also assisted the “PK” actor’s wife Kiran Rao
in her films. In his call for new talent, Aamir had tweeted: “Hey
guys, need your help to spread the word. Thanks. Love. a.” The
complete post about the requirement reads: “Aamir Khan Productions
is looking for a girl who can sing, in the age group of 12-
17. Record a video of yourself singing a Hindi song of your choice
and email it (or a link to the video) to: casting@akpfilms.com.
“Please include a short introduction in Hindi and attach
a signed letter of consent from a parent/guardian.”
The work on the project has started and is at a very nascent stage.
Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman has also come on board for the music
of the film.
But a while ago, the Bollywood Diva had requested the media not
to make a soap-opera out of Shahid’s wedding. Perhaps that’s
why she decided to give the event a miss as her presence there
would have definitely caught everyone’s attention.
However, according to a report by Bollywood Now, Saifeena
have sent a special gift to Shahid and Mira. And it seems the
newlyweds are rather touched with this sweet gesture. We can’t
help but wonder what the present is!
Kareena Kapoor to delete
Arjun Kapoor’s number
Kareena Kapoor Khan is almost every second celebrity’s favourite
Bollywood actress – especially the young ones like Alia
Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, and so
many more. In fact, we all love her so much!
When Ranveer Singh rubbed
Kareena the wrong way
Ranveer reportedly said that Kareena needs to do more substantial roles
and that he has outgrown his fanboy craze for her, unlike Sidharth Malhotra
and Arjun Kapoor who still proclaim their crush on her. Now, if the grapevine
is to believed, Bebo feels this is Ranveer’s way of hitting back at her. If you
jog your memory, Kareena was the original choice for Ram Leela (2013)
before Deepika Padukone was cast in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film. But then
Ranveer should be happy that Ram Leela gave him a chance to bond with
Deepika Padukone, who is now his alleged lady love.
All these actors are always praising her, so in an interview with
NDTV, she was asked about how she deals with so much fandom
within the industry itself. She said: I have no idea why?!
Arjun (Kapoor) always BBMs me saying something and I’m like
‘listen, I’m deleting you if you’re going to praise me so much and
message me.’ Like stop it, it’s so annoying. I don’t AT ALL (love
it). I have only been waiting for Saifoo to give me a compliment.
Jacqueline Fernandez
back with a BANG!
After the riveting success of Houseful 2 and Murder 2, Jacqueline Fernandez
celebrated a hat trick with KICK , her third 100-crore grossing film . She immediately
graduated to the big league and was cast opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Roy,
which also went on to do encouraging business at the box office.
Jackie who has had a packed year so far, shooting for her films on home turf
and her international projects, is now back in the public limelight with Dharma
Productions’ Brothers and Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Bangistan.
As both the trailers recently released online, Jacqueline fans were in for a treat,
as they got a glimpse of the actress essaying two completely different roles -
one in which she plays a young mother and wife and the other in an out-and-out
comic space.
Says a source, “Jacqueline is a hot-favourite with filmmakers - Not only is she
a part of big ticket projects but is also essaying significant roles in them, where
she shares equal screen space with A-list actors. She bagged the role in Akshay
Kumar and Siddharth Malhotra’s Brothers, which will explore her talent as an
actress as she goes de-glam with nothing to distract from her performance. She
was also roped in for Bangistan in a very special appearance, which the makers
felt would make the film more sellable. Comedy is something that comes to her
naturally and something she enjoys doing.
Who is Kareena’s bar hopping
partner?
It’s not unknown that Sara and Ibrahim (Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s
children) are pretty close to their step-mother Kareena Kapoor Khan. In our
recent interview with Bebo, we asked her about her relationship with them.
While speaking about Sara, the actress candidly said that the two are like
college girls together. She said, “We’re like best friends. Saif refuses to
come out with us. She’s my bar hopping partner. I enjoy my equation with
her.”
Amit takes up
aerial yoga and
cycling for
Akira
Parineeti Chopra is back. Okay, okay
she didn’t go anywhere. But the fact
is that she wasn’t making any public
appearances for a while because
of her weight issues or so were told.
The actress has come out now and is
she looking gorgeous! She’s dropped
several stones and is out to give her
contemporaries a run for their money.
Recently, she was in Dubai and so was
Karan Johar. The two met up for lunch.
More importantly, they spoke about
re-strategising her career. Karan was
seen advising her on the kind of movies
she should sign now. By the looks
of it, she’s on a mission to prove herself.
Way to go!
Amit Sadh has started preparing for AR
Murugadoss’ Akira where he’s romantically
paired with Sonakshi Sinha. The actor,
who believes in going to any lengths
to get into the skin of his characters, has
worked on his physical transformation for
his role in Akira.
Amit, who had to gain 22 kgs for his role in
an upcoming film, had to lose weight and
build six-pack abs for Akira. Now, it’s learnt
that the talented actor doesn’t really need
to sweat it out in the gym and is off weight
training. And in a first, his intense fitness
training routine will include aerial yoga as
prep for the film.
networks down and no transport facility, Richa walked all the way!
Richa Chadda had to walk all the way from Juhu SNDT to Juhu Hotel as her car broke down. The
actress was reaching the sets of her upcoming movie Chalk N Duster, when she was delayed
because of the heavy rain. She was stranded for almost an hour as her car wouldn’t start and
decided to walk it off.
HOT GOSSIP
Director Jayant Gilatar informs us that the starlet walked almost 1.5 kms to the location.
Jayant says, “Richa is a brave girl. We were all worried on the sets because it was pouring cats
and dogs, and were well past the time we intended to start. All of us reached late but, none could
get through to Richa. There was some connection problem and we couldn’t reach her phone.
After hours she reached the sets, completely drenched, with an umbrella in her hand and a cloth
to cover her face.”
He adds, “As there was no transport facility available at that time, she had to come walking all
the way. Was shivering a bit when she arrived, but by the end of the day, everything was normal.”
Anushka Sharma’s
Special Love for
Bicycles
Anushka Sharma is a naturally lean, athletic
person. When it comes to exercising or staying
fit, Anushka doesn’t need to be pushed
to hit the gym ever. What most don’t know
is just how fond Anushka is of outdoorsy activity.
Her favorite way of exploring new places &
natural beauty is atop a bicycle. Anushka
loves to take bicycle rides through hilly terrain
& new places when she takes a holiday.
A strenuous form of exercise in itself,
Anushka enjoys riding since her childhood.
She is very fond of cycling, a hobby that
she picked up as an Army kid. Her father
was posted in faraway states of India. As
an army kid Anushka used to cycle with her
friends. Says a source close to her, “Anushka
used to love cycling down the streets.
Sonam Kapoor to move
out of her house
It seems that the young stars of B-town are finally leaving
their nests. After the news of Alia Bhatt and Ranveer
Singh moving into their own apartments, Sonam
Kapoor is reportedly all set to move into her own pad.
The actress is going to move out of her family house in
Juhu and shift into a 7000-square feet duplex in Bandra-
Kurla Complex spread across two floors. The apartment
is reportedly in the same building as producers Sunil and
Krishika Lulla, who stay on the 11th floor, while Sonam
has the 3rd and 4th floor as part of her duplex.
According to sources, she will only look to settle in once the
interiors are done. What’s more, her aunt, Kavita Singh, a
reputed interior designer in the city, is handling the décor.
The work on her house is set to start this week. Apparently,
Sonam is also taking keen interest in doing up her
house and everything will be done according to her taste
and interests. Let’s hope it’s a ‘home sweet home’ indeed
for the actress.
She is very good at maneuvering bicycles
and has held on to the habit ever since.”
That she is comfortable exploring a city’s
streets on a bicycle is evident from her riding
one in her blockbusters, ‘PK’ ‘Dil Dhadhakne
Do’ and 'NH10'.. Be it a carefree cycle
ride along with Ranveer Singh down the
streets of Istanbul, or biking in picturesque
Bruges or for that matters even in Nh10,
Anushka and her bicycle have become permanent
memories from these films for fans.
Onscreen or off it, we hope Anushka keeps
riding bicycles in the same carefree spirit for
sometime to come!
LIFESTYLE FEATURE
Sasha’s bride Mira Rajput was
initially not very keen on tying
the knot with him. The reason
behind Mira’s hesitation is reported
in the article to be the age
difference between the two. The
report further stated that it was Mira’s elder
sister who convinced her to give a nod for
the wedding and Shahid too tried his hands
at convincing Mira to accept the marriage
proposal.
In this case, it was not cupid, but Radha Soami
Satsang that brought them together. If
Shahid’s marriage revelation was a shocker,
then read on to know who else followed the
traditional arranged marriage trend in Bollywood.
Wedding menu:
From the wedding destination to their wedding
trousseau, Shahid Kapoor’s marriage
to Mira Rajput was the talk of the town. Jaipuri
paan was served to the guests at the
wedding. The report further mentioned that
the same vendor had earlier prepared 15
varieties of paan and a special gift box for
the Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor wedding.
Apart from a strictly vegetarian lavish buffet
with Indian and continental cuisine, guests
were treated with a variety of paans like khajoor
paan filled with dry fruits and flavoured
paan like rose and mango. For chocolate
lovers, there was chocolate paan, with all
the basic ingredients like gulkand, saunf
and elaichi mixed together and dipped in
chocolate, stated the report. The vendor,
Anu Mobile Paan Bhandar, has celebs like
Shilpa Shetty, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai
Bachchan and Bobby Deol, among others,
as his regular clients.
Wedding outfits:
Designer Kunal Rawal has designed 10 outfits
for the groom. A lot of ethnic outfits like
achkans and bandhgalas are a part of Shahid’s
wardrobe, stated a report. The bride
was seen in Anamika Khanna creations.
Mira’s friends hosted a bridal shower ceremony.
All ex-girlfriends at the wedding:
It was recently reported that none of Shahid’s
ex-girlfriends were invited to his wedding.
However, according to a report on Ibnlive.com,
Shahid let bygones be bygones.
Further to the report, he unvited all his costars,
including ex-flames Priyanka Chopra,
Kareena Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Vidya
Balan, to his reception. Though the wedding
was a low-key affair, the reception was a
grand one, suggest reports.
Wedding card:
The leaked picture of Shahid-Mira’s wedding
invites have garnered much attention in the
media. Apparently, the card has been designed
by Ravish Kapoor. Talking about the
brief received, the designer has been quoted
in a Bollywoodlife.com report as saying that
he had pitched for the wedding cards many
months ago but the process was delayed as
the actor wasn’t sure about the date of marriage.
It was later, when they met at the IIFA,
that Shahid started talking about the details.
Divulging the details, Ravish says that Shahid
was very particular about everything –
font, colour. The designer added that Sasha
doesn’t like gold and asked them to limit
its use. Shahid also reportedly suggested
that they keep tea in the box and honey in
the bottles. Ravish added that Shahid had
asked for the names of both his mothers to
be included in the invite. However, what’s
amazing is the fact that Shahid asked for
a change in the position of their initials, ‘S’
and ‘M.’ Apparently, in the card, the ‘S’ was
placed above ‘M’ but Shahid insisted that it
was either brought at the same level or the
‘S’ was placed below the ‘M’.
Blessed by three mothers:
Shahid Kapoor was be blessed by three
mothers on the day of his wedding. The actor’s
wedding was attended by all three of
his mothers. Apart from Shahid’s biological
mother, Neelima Azim, Pankaj Kapur’s current
wife, Supriya Pathak Kapur were present
to bless the newlyweds. Supriya was
overseeing the preparations for Shahid’s
big day. Also present was Neelima Azim’s
ex-husband, Rajesh Khattar and his current
wife, Vandana Sajnani, who was reportedly
keen to be a part of the wedding festivities. A
source has been quoted in the report as saying
that Vandana has said Rajesh and she
think of Shahid as a son, because Rajesh
helped raise him when he was younger.
After Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput’s quiet
sangeet and wedding celebrations in Delhi,
it was time celebrations moved to Mumbai.
The newlyweds hosted a reception at a fivestar
hotel in the city and who’s who from Bollywood
were in attendance.
Shahid and Mira got married in Delhi in a
quiet ceremony on July 7th. Only Shahid’s
family and close friends were in attendance
at the event, followed by a reception in the
national capital.
Some of Bollywood and India’s best known
faces landed at Palladium Hotelin The Maximum
City’s Lower Parel area, the venue of
the reception. And, guess what? Shahid Kapoor
and Mira Rajput roped in the same décor
specialist who were responsible for the
grand and much talked about wedding reception
of Salman Khan’s sister Arpita Khan.
The couple reached the reception venue well
before the guests. While Mira was dressed
in a crop top-lehenga ensemble by designer
Manish Malhotra, Shahid looked dapper in
a tux designed by Kunal Raval. Shahid’s
mother Neelima Azim and her son Ishaan
were among the first to arrive at the venue.
Neelima was seen greeting the guests at
the gate. This responsibility was then taken
by Shahid’s father Pankaj Kapoor and stepmother
Supriya. The dinner was a vegetarian
affair, just like the wedding and sangeet.
Shahid and Mira mingled with the guests
and were seen holding hands. They also
happily posed for selfies with the guests.
The couple stepped out of the venue
around midnight to pose for pictures for the
media. Amitabh Bachchan was amongst the
early guests. He was spotted having a chat
with Mira and later with Pankaj and Supriya.
Alia Bhatt, waited a while before she could
wish Shahid in person. She walked in with
filmmaker Vikas Bahl. Ranveer Singh, Arjun
Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Kriti
Sanon, Kangana Ranaut and Preity Zinta
were also present at the reception. Ranveer,
who was amongst the last guests to arrive,
happily posed for selfies with fans before entering
the venue.
Adv. Veerash Srikison
The traditional way of ending a relationship,
be it a divorce or a separation, is to
take the issues to a courtroom and have a
judge decide who gets what and who has
“custody” of the children and how much
does each person have to contribute to
maintenance. This of course, traditionally,
involves attorneys and counsel and
the court process of sending documents
back and forth if there is no agreement up
front. The legal professionals then battle it
out and try to convince the judge that their
party is right and is entitled to whatever
they ask for. This courtroom process however
leaves the parties little control over
how much time and money is spent and if
the decisions made by the judge are realistic
for their particular family.
If the thought of going to the court process
brings anxiety and stress to you, then
you should look at the alternative. Which
is the process of mediation where people
discuss in detail and decide what will be
in the best interests of their children and
what terms and conditions contained in
their settlement agreement are realistic to
their family.
Mediation is an informal conflict-resolution
process and is facilitated by a qualified
neutral third-person, the mediator.
Mediation is not therapy or counseling
though but rather gives people the opportunity
to discuss their issues, clear up misunderstandings,
and find areas of agreement
and in accordance with the law, in
We want to end our relationship but do not want the
unnecessary costs and time wasted fighting in court.
What is the alternative?
a way that would never be possible in a
courtroom. As a society though, we are
still having a hard time with the notion
that two adults could dissolve their relationship
in the same way they began it; by
working together with mutual respect and
understanding, without any need for legal
“advice.” Mediation balances the room so
that these adults can engage in productive
conversations about their future lives that
will be lived separately.
In the South African case of MB vs NB
(Brownlee judgement), Acting Judge
Brassey encouraged divorcing parties
that mediation should be resorted to first
to discuss the prospect of a settlement
before they engage in litigious exchanges.
He further said that attorneys bear an
obligation, prior to litigation, to encourage
their clients to mediate a settlement
instead of facing the delays and expense
of running a trial. This judgment well
proves that family mediation is alive and
welcome within the South African legal
system.
Further benefits include:
1. Costs and Time Saving - In mediation
you gain the benefit of one
professional for the price of two.
You both are in the company of a
single professional who can give you
information at the same time that is
pertinent to your particular circumstances,
instead of you each paying
a separate professional for advice.
The costs involved in mediation,
including drafting the documents,
are discussed with you both upfront.
By working towards a goal in your
mediation sessions, you will shorten
the time spent sending papers back
and forth and waiting for responses.
Mediation typically only takes days,
depending how amicable you both
are, and allows a more reasonable
and flexible timetable for resolving a
dispute at the convenience of both of
you and the mediator.
2. Communication and Decisionmaking
- Communication between
the two of you is direct, since you attend
the mediation sessions together.
You will be encouraged to behave in
a collaborative manner so that progress
is made quicker. If both of you
look at it in most instances your concerns
are similar:
• How are we going to divide our assets
and liabilities in a way that is fair
to each of us?
• How are we going to live separately
on the same income that once supported
us together?
• How are we going to support and
parent our child(ren) in a manner
consistent with how we did so while
living together?
A well trained mediator is always better
at helping you communicate with each
other in a less destructive manner and is
not fully focused on the legal technicalities
but rather the practical realities you
are both facing. The decisions you make
are in your control and therefore more
predictable and easier to comply with because
they are tailored to suit your specific
circumstances. In mediation more time
is spent on reaching agreement instead of
encouraging emotional outbursts.
3. The Voice of Your Child(ren) -
During mediation, you will both
discuss the contents of your parenting
plan, which is a blueprint for
the “access” and “custody” of your
child(ren). Your child(ren) will then
be given the opportunity to hear such
contents and understand the way forward.
They will also understand that
the decisions made by their parents
were done so with their best interests
in mind. The Children’s Act of
South Africa states that the voice of
the child must be heard when the circumstances
of their lives are changing
significantly. In my experience,
from mediating a divorce/separation,
many children who have been in a
“child interview” felt empowered
and less insecure of their future with
mum and dad when they became part
of the mediation process. Many of
them have acknowledged that they
are “proud” of their parents because
their parents have “stopped fighting
and started talking”.
For Lakme Fashion
Week
Summer / Resort
2015
Manish
With the ‘Blue Runway’ at Lakme Fashion
Week, Manish Malhotra introduced a new dimension
to his summer collection with a social
message of change in association with the
WEvolve Campaign and World Bank as partner.
Styled in a midnight blue crop-top teamed with
a voluminous rose-pink lehenga skirt from the
designer’s latest collection, Hollywood actress
and fashion maven Rosario Dawson joined
Manish Malhotra to present the ‘Blue Runway’.
The opening night show of Lakme Fashion
Week saw the launch of WEvolve, a global
campaign and program aimed at empowering
young men and women to challenge norms
that lead to gender violence. The Blue Runway
has been the longest runway in the history of
Indian fashion, and commemorated the enduring
relationship between Malhotra and Lakme
Fashion Week.
The show featured models walking the ramp
amidst a set of floral décor with Moroccan
lamps hanging from trees. The highlight of the
show was the finale segment where the models
were seen carrying messages of change and
positivity on placards that read – gender, equality,
society, empower and justice.
The audience was moved by the sheer beauty
of the show and the social message that it carried.
The front row of the packed show included
celebrated personalities such as, Deepika
Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandes, Shabana
Azmi, Sridevi, Kajol, Huma Qureshi, Neha
Dhupia, Richa Chadda, Surily Goel, Queenie
Dhody, Sophie Chowdry, Freddy Daruwala,
Shradha Salla and Alison Miller from World
Bank to name a few.
For the first time in Manish’s association with
LFW, the show was an offsite one in the oldworld
ambience of the Great Eastern Home - a
sprawling home décor store featuring unique
and worldly furniture. Manish Malhotra had
personally chosen the venue and given his
attention to every detail to ensure that all the
elements came together in a spectacular show
that did justice to the special occasion.
Malhotra
Blue Runway’ Collection
The designer’s latest collection showcases
mirror work and floral embroidery, adding a 3D
and textural effect to the elegant pieces. The
outfits were highlighted with jewellery by Anmol
Jewellers. The colour palette this season was
dominated by hues of blue from powder to midnight,
with bold touches of variations of yellow
reflecting the promise of a bright future.
While inspired by traditional techniques, the
collection is innovatively designed to be worn
in any part of the world. The women’s line included
flowy gowns, jacket-saris, off shoulder
and halter crop tops, and skirts as an ode to
the lehenga. Since the show was about empowering
women by empowering men, Manish
Malhotra has given a strong focus to his men’s
collection with impeccably tailored menswear
that included bandhgala jackets and long shirts
in structured and easy styles. In essence, Manish
Malhotra brought together a youthful and
glamorous collection to celebrate the younger
generation which is the key agent of change.
FASHION LIFESTYLE
“With the advent of LFW 15 years ago, I feel
we have taken giant strides in moulding Indian
fashion into a more organised unit with an international
outlook,” said the designer, who
ventured into mainstream designing in 1998.
He received appreciation for creating glamorous
ensembles with traditional Indian colours,
craftsmanship, textures and embroidery at his
first fashion show in November 1999. During
his over-20-years in the industry, he has received
nearly 35 awards. Malhotra is now not
only a regular at India’s main fashion weeks but
has also served as stylist for over a 100 Bollywood
films, emerging as a known name on
runways in Paris, Milan and New York.
The fashion heavyweight has dressed a bevy
of B-town beauties, such as Kajol, Karisma
Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Rani Mukerji,
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Deepika
Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
Recalling his journey as a costume designer for
Bollywood films, he said, “To me, costumes are
an important sub-set of visual storytelling.”
“My costumes for films have been a translation
of the personality of the protagonist, be it for
Urmila in Rangeela, Karisma in Raja Hindustani
or Deepika in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.
Each of these characters had an unapologetic
sense of individuality expressed in their costumes,”
he state. “As for working with young
talent, I’m always up for it.”
Malhotra feels that there is great demand for
contemporary Indian fashion in the West and
so, it’s important to promote the country’s
strengths globally, with the right balance. “It
needs the perfect balance of relevance, creativity
and business acumen to go international.
This is valid for Indian labels going abroad and
vice-versa,” he said. “However, I believe there
is a demand for contemporary Indian fashion in
the West. The fascination with our range of colours
and the sensuality of our cuts and silhouettes
makes it very exciting to design for the
international style-enthusiast,” he added.
On what he plans on doing next, he said without
divulging details, “We definitely have lots to
do this year. As I said, it is a very special year
for me and, with reference to what’s next… Let
me surprise you as and when it happens.”
TRAVEL
Heaven in India
Nubra Valley
Trip to Leh Ladakh is one experience
that you will never
forget. Nature has its irresistible
serenity at its best, Leh
Ladakh will surely mesmerize
you with its natural grace.
Leh, the capital of Ladakh is situated at a
height of 3505 meters and is towards the
eastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The
region is watered by the Zanskar River,
which flows into the Indus River just below.
Spilling out of a side valley that tapers
north towards eroded snow-capped peaks,
the Ladakhi capital sprawls from the foot of
a ruined Tibetan style palace - a maze of
mud-brick and concrete flanked on one side
by cream-coloured desert, and on the other
by a swathe of lush irrigated farmland. As
one approaches Leh India for the first time,
via the sloping seep of dust and pebbles
that divide if from the floor of the Indus Valley,
one will have little difficulty imagining
how the old trans -Himalayan traders must
have felt as they plodded in on the caravan
routes from Yarkhand and Tibet: a mixture
of relief at having crossed the mountains
in one piece, and anticipation of a relaxing
spell in one of central Asia’s most scenic
and atmospheric towns. Leh in India is a
beautiful destination with so many attractions
and is the centre of Tibeto-Buddhist
Culture for ages. Its colourful gompas
have attracted the devout Buddhists from
all over the globe. Besides, it is also a favorite
hiking locale and is known for some
of the best hikes in the country. Travel to
Leh this vacation to enjoy its mystic beauty.
The trans-Himalayan district of Ladakh is
simply a storehouse of adventure. Travellers
from all across the globe keep flocking
to Ladakh almost all year round. When it’s
about adventure in India, Ladakh happens
to be second to none. Adventure in Ladakh
Pangong Lake
Page 56
has its own taste and meaning. You have
a good number of adventure sports in Ladakh
to choose from. Most famous adventure
sports in Ladakh include mountaineering,
jeep safari, trekking, cycling and river
rafting. Ladakh adventure holidays have
everything to offer an adrenaline junkie
might be looking for. There are high mountain
ranges, scenic trails, expansive lakes,
deep valleys and high passes that add to
the joy of your adventure in Ladakh.
Ladakh is a place like no other. Surrounded
by two awe-inspiring mountain ranges,
Karakoram and the Himalayas, Leh-Ladakh
will redefine the concept of natural
beauty like you never knew it. If you can
take thin oxygen levels and some hardships
on a holiday, brace yourself for a
roller coaster ride. But before you plan your
adventure trip to Ladakh, make sure you
include the following hotspots in the list no
matter what.
Nubra Valley
The Khardung La Pass at 18,380 feet, is
the highest motor able road in the world,
and a gateway to the Nubra Valley. The
beauty of the Nubra valley is that it allows
you to look over the Indus valley in the
south and the mountain ridges of the Zanskar.
You will get to see some rare and interesting
plantations, quaint hamlets and high
altitude desert landscapes. You will find the
Siachen Glacier to the north of the valley
and the Sasser Pass to the northwest of
the valley.
Lamayuru Monastery
It’s difficult to choose the best amongst
so many beautiful monasteries in Leh-
Ladakh. If you want your touristy dose of
seeing monks on orange robes performing
quaint rituals, a visit to the Lamayuru
monastery is a must. It is one of the oldest
and largest monasteries of Ladakh, located
approximately 127 kms from Leh. You will
love seeing the beautiful caves carved out
of the mountains at the monastery. You
could also consider going to the Stok, Hemis,
Thiksey, Spituk and Shey monasteries
if time permits.
Pangong Lake
To visit this lake which is the world’s highest
brackish lake at 14,256 feet (above sea
level), you’ll have to undertake a 160 kms
journey from Leh. Starting from Thicksey
village, you will start crossing large mountain
ridges that just don’t seem to end. And
by the way, once the mountains start, even
crossing distance worth 10 minutes can
take you hours. The topography is harsh
but breathtaking. Once you finally arrive
at the Pangong Lake, you will be lost in
seeing the deep mesmerizing blue colour.
Don’t expect boating facilities here!
Zanskar Valley
The Zanskar mountain range covers an
area of 7000 sq. kms and is without a
doubt, one of the most desolate places in
the Himalayan range. Zanskar is known
for its awesome scale. The tributaries of
the Zanskar River are famous for seasonal
white river rafting. Deep gorges, snow glaciers
and a number of small religious spots
dot the Zanskar valley. Be careful of the
time of the year you choose to visit Zanskar.
It’s closed for a significant time due to
extreme snowfall and winter.
Shanti Stupa
Located on a hill in Chanspa, Leh, the
Shanti Stupa is one of the most magnificent
and peaceful Buddhist monuments
you could possibly see in the extreme north
of India. Did you know, the Shanti Stupa
was enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama
himself? It has relics of Buddha at its base.
It’s amazing to know that the Shanti Stupa
was built to commemorate 2500 years of
Buddhism. What’s more, it also offers panoramic
views of the landscape around it.
Whoever has been to Leh-Ladakh comes
back with a changed perspective of the
place. It’s definitely not for the faint hearted.
It’s a photographer’s paradise and a nature
lover’s haven. If you can sit on the banks
of a lake taking in the beauty for hours together,
then you must visit these 5 hotspots
of Leh-Ladakh.
MUSIC INTERVIEW
Rhythm is Gonna Get Sachin-Jigar to YOU!
Sachin Jigar, the immensely talented
duo who debuted with Teree
Sang giving five excellent tracks,
but we all know what happened
to the movie. Similar fate befell
their next two movies Krantiveer
and F.A.L.T.U., although with FALTU some of
their songs at least got valuable airtime. In any
case, now things have finally started looking up
for the talented duo with Shor In The City, where
the music and the movie have both been appreciated,
Saibo especially turning out a huge
success. They have now emerged as one of the
best composers in Bollywood in recent years.
They have proved their versatility with different
genres are riding high on success of songs
such as Sun Saathiya, Bezubaan and Happy
Birthday. But they are clear that they want to
refrain from composing in films that have more
than one composer.
listening to Roja I was sure that composing music,
recording it and arranging it myself was all I
wanted to do for the rest of my life. That’s when
I picked up learning the keyboard.
You have no qualms about controversy attached
to some of your songs?
Babaji ki Booty (Go Goa Gone, 2013) and G
Phaad Ke (Happy Ending, 2014), which have
double meaning. Ask them if numbers like these
ever gave them a tough time, and Jigar says,
“There has been a change in our audience, our
movies, our narratives, and even our day-today
lifestyle. Somewhere, films and songs will
always be a reflection of that change.” Sachin is
quick to add, “We know you cannot go straight
out and swear, but there can be songs about
naughty feelings, and if there is a controversy
attached with them, we would love that.”
where music directors often have a star
backing like Salman with Sajid-Wajid, or Akshay
and Himesh? Are there ever problems
to stay true to your style without that?
We’re still comparatively new to the industry so
I’m not expecting to get the Akshays and Shah
Rukhs too soon. But we’re getting to do what
we love and these films are a little hatke and
keep us occupied for a little more time. I’m quite
happy that we’ve got a few directors that we
respect and get the opportunity to work with. I
think we have a strong backing with Remo and
TIPS music. With the star backing, it’s finally
about the rapport where a certain person believes
in another. So for a Salman Khan film,
maybe he thinks that this is my big film and I
want my boys to give me a good song, that’s
how these things come about. I think we are fine
doing our jobs well.
Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya. You are
not brothers obviously. So what is the connection?
How did Sachin-Jigar happen?
We basically met to share work load. Both of
us were doing well in television, but needed
support to fetch more work and perform better.
There is this thing called coincidence. We naturally
gelled; there was the Gujju connect, we
complemented each others’ weaknesses etc.
so it was destiny I guess.
Tell us a bit about your musical upbringing,
classical training etc? We know that Sachin
used to sing for movies as a child, when did
being a composer occur to you in place of
taking up singing professionally?
Oh yes I started learning hindustani classical
vocals at the age of six. I really wanted to be
a singer then, but I wasn’t enjoying it so much.
Then came Roja and A R Rahman swept a
whole lot of young guys like me off their feet.
It revolutionised the flow of things. I loved music
but singing wasn’t enough. After repeatedly
Page 60
www.saindiamagazine.com
What’s your favourite music, as in the USP
of Sachin Jigar?
We don’t keep ourselves stuck on a particular
genre, because as artists, we like to explore
what everybody has to come up within the given
space.”
How do you view technology in music today?
We see it as a boon, right from the software
employed to give our filmmaker a very close
idea of the final song. Technology allows us to
experiment and new talents to make a mark as
music directors. Speaking for us, the need for
technological upgrades eats away most of our
remunerations but we do not mind that and will
not change things in any way! Having said that,
at the end of it all one has to go back to acoustics
or live musicians. The same notes on the
same guitar will have a completely different feel
from different musicians.
How do you guys feel in a music scene
When working as a duo, do you divide work
as independent artists or collaborate on
each and everything you work upon?
While one is sitting on the machine creating
music the other sits quietly at the back. That’s
a crucial place to be, because from the back
you can see even more clearly. So you can give
ideas or avoid disturbing. Once satisfied the first
one gives way to the other to add on. So it’s
purely collaboration. Even in live dubs and post
production we need each other continuously.
We’ve strong and weak areas individually, but
together we are a comprehensive team. In fact
we’ve so gelled that we’ve taken our company
beyond the studio and work. We are a family
now!
ABCD2 has been tremendously successful
and the songs have created a wave?
Yes, this is our second film with Remo Sir. Of
course in the first film we were very new. This
time it was very comfortable working with him
and you can see the results.

Raspberry Creme Brulee
This is seen as a special pudding but is easy to make. Any fruit can
be used, although fresh seasonal varieties give the best results.
Serves 4.
INGREDIENTS
4 egg yolks
1 tsp (level) caster sugar
1 pint cream
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 box raspberries
caster sugar for topping
METHOD
Mix egg yolks well with sugar.
Put cream in a double saucepan, bring to scalding point then allow
to cool.
Pour cream over egg yolk mixture, blending well.
Add vanilla essence and then return to the saucepan and thicken
carefully over the heat stirring constantly.
Don’t let it boil. It is ready when the cream mixture will cover and
stick to the back of a spoon.
Put raspberries into four glass dishes and then strain in the cream
mixture.
Leave in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
When cool and set, dust surface with caster sugar and caramelise
with a cook’s blowtorch until crunchy.
Tip:
If you don’t have a cook’s blowtorch then put the Creme Brulee
under the grill to brown - but put it in a dish with ice so you don’t
cook the custard.
