Education chimes, the tambourine and many more. Here are some things I love about percussion: Percussion is very diverse, and the backbone of the band. We get to move around during concerts and also get to stand up while we play, which is great for a guy like me who hates to sit for too long. Percussionists get to learn a lot about rhythms and timing, and sometimes, we get awesome solos! Because there are so many instruments to play in the percussion section, a percussionist can show a lot of different sides of their personality and mood within a variety of types of music. As a percussionist, I never get bored. There’s always a new instrument to learn more about and new ways to incorporate those instruments into a musical piece. Being a percussionist has also helped me quite a bit with my piano. I’ve been playing piano for quite a while, but now that I’ve added percussion, it has helped me with my timing, note-reading and dynamics. So, if there are any kids out there looking for a way to release some bottled-up energy and have a great time, percussion just might be right for you. I really enjoy it, and let’s face it, what kid doesn’t want to bang on stuff? Evin Ersan Junior Reporter for QC Family Focus Magazine I’m in eighth grade and a member of the Pleasant Valley Junior High School Band. Being in the band has been a great experience and I’m really happy I joined. Not only do I get to learn a lot about music, but I can also hang out with a big group of great people and meet new friends who I might not have met otherwise. Before I was in the band, I was in the orchestra and played violin. Although I enjoyed the violin, I decided to switch to percussion. My parents were a little shocked, but agreed that as long as I kept up with my piano, I could make a switch on my second instrument. I had always been interested in percussion, so once my parents gave their approval, I made the switch. I’m really glad I did. When you get into percussion, you learn a whole series of instruments, including snare drum, bass drum, bongos, bells, marimba, xylophone, maracas, triangle, Your favorite Disney Characters will hit the ice at the iWireless center soon!.
