WELCOME
Welcome to this brief guide and introduction
to the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2016.
The kbbreview Retail & Design Awards are a lot of things to a lot of people, I think
it’s one of the reasons why they’re so successful.
To some, the event itself is simply a great party, the perfect chance to entertain
colleagues and customers and see some old friends over a drink (or three).
For others it’s a perfect way to publicly support the retail sector, the lifeblood of this
industry, and see exactly what is at the forefront of creativity on the shopfloor.
But for those designers and retailers with the confidence to step into the limelight,
it’s the chance to really measure their abilities against the whole industry.
That takes a lot of guts and there’s no question that anyone who enters has my
unending respect. The rewards, however, are amazing. These trophies have been
the benchmark for excellence in this industry for over 20 years and, if marketed
correctly, can translate into a real commercial advantage over competitors. What
better validation of your credentials than an award from your own industry, judged by
your peers.
It is specifically built into the judging criteria of the kbbreview Retail & Design
Awards that they are about value for money, no matter how big or small that budget
may be. Big showrooms or high value designs can, and do, lose to small showrooms
and modest project costs if the value for money, creativity, individuality and
understanding of the client is better.
So these are awards for every retailer and designer regardless of stature, so if
you’ve never entered before, perhaps it’s time to think again.

KBBREVIEW RETAIL & DESIGN AWARDS EXPLAINED
New to the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards? Here’s a quick guide to
everything you need to know to get you started on your entry...
What are the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards?
The kbbreview Retail & Design Awards is a prestigious
annual event celebrating 22 years in 2016. It rewards
retailers, designers and manufacturers in the kitchen and
bathroom industry and is organised by kbbreview, the
sector’s leading business magazine.
Who can enter?
Our categories are split into two disciplines - retail and
design. They are open to any retailers, designers and
manufacturers of kitchen and bathroom projects in the UK
and Ireland. Independents, multiples and franchisees are all
welcome to enter and it’s totally FREE.
What design categories are there?
The design categories are open to ANY designers of kitchen
and bathroom projects that have been installed in a real
residential home. In other words, they are not for concept
or showroom designs. One-off designs for a showhome or
developer are eligible but it must be indicated on the entry.

What retail categories are there?
The Retailer of the Year awards are for the best all round
retailers looking at factors including business success,
marketing, showroom, customer service and after-sales. The
Showroom of the Year categories look specifically at how well
designed and effective showrooms are for their target market.
How do I enter?
The entry process is really simple and is all done via our
official website. It’s a simple Word document format that you
can save and complete at your leisure. There are also sample
entries to download to get you started, as well as hints and
tips for putting a good entry together.
What does it cost?
Absolutely nothing, it is completely and totally FREE to enter
and, in fact, if you’re shortlisted you get two FREE seats at
the ceremony in March.
When is the closing date?
Midday on November 17th, 2015. There will be NO extensions.
How are the winners chosen?
The judging process for the kbbreview Retail & Design
Awards is unique in its focus and detail. You can find out

JUDGING
The judging process for the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards is unique in its focus and detail. We have several stages to make sure
the entering is easy but winning is hard!
In the design categories, the submitted entries are viewed by a panel of expert design judges and narrowed down to no more than four
finalists per category. Those finalists are then invited to London to make an in-person presentation to the panel and a winner is chosen.
In the retail categories, the submitted entries are also viewed by an expert business judging panel. They choose four finalists for each
category and then, over the course of several weeks, each one is visited by a judge to see the business up close and really understand
how it ticks.
No other awards in the kitchen and bathroom industry go to such lengths to ensure such a transparent and rigorous judging process.

HOW TO ENTER
Entering the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards has never been
easier, all you need to do is follow these simple steps...
STEP ONE
Pick your categories
Remember that you can enter as many as you like but you
can only enter each once. In the design categories, you
cannot submit the same design more than once and in the
business categories multiple retailers must choose one
specific showroom.
STEP TWO
Get your pictures together
Every entry will need supporting pictures that show your
design or showroom to the best effect. Pictures should be
JPEGs with as high a resolution as possible.
It is HIGHLY ADVISABLE to include plans and elevations if at
all possible. Also it’s very useful to include CAD renderings
but you MUST have photos of the actual project too. Make
sure you have pictures that show the complete project or
showroom.
STEP THREE
Have a look at the samples
Take a look at the sample entries. That way you’ll know what
information you’ll need to include when you come to do
yours and you can read through the questions on the form.
The samples are there purely to give you a nudge in the right
direction rather than tell you exactly how it needs to be done.
STEP FOUR
Fill in the form
Click on the ‘Get Entry Form’ button and follow the instructions
from there. The form is a simple Word document that you can
save and fill in at your leisure. When you’re finished you just
email it back to us with the accompanying pictures.
Remember that judges have loads of entries to get through so
be succinct and use bullet points to highlight key facts. It may
sound obvious, but fill in ALL the answers.
STEP FIVE

Remember the closing date
Get your entry to us by the closing date - midday on
November 17th, 2015, but you can submit anytime before then.
