The wounds - a roughly circular patch of flesh on the left side of the subject’s stomach and a one-inch incision on the right thigh - show no signs of clotting however; perhaps this is as a result of the action of the worms. The surface of the flesh feels porous. A slightly nauseating smell emanates from them, and there seems to be some pus developing within, in addition to the discoloration of the wounds from the reddish pink that was present yesterday at the time of incision, to a red/brown/yellow hue. The edges of the wounds also show signs of discoloration. I expect them both to be gangrenous in a few hours. He takes out a small, white, covered plastic dish. He opens it, and then picks up the cut out flesh floating in fluid stained pink with blood. He holds it up to the light, then turns it over and carefully covers the wound with it, worms and all. Subject shows obvious discomfort upon placement of the cut-out flesh on the stomach wound. I will now proceed to sew both injuries shut. He prepares the surgical needles, and then walks around to her right side. He repositions the light above him, and then pushes the worms with his right index finger deeper into her wound. Wanted: For fear Study Raymond Elenwoke courage and faith can withstand, and has, as a result, devolved into a crying, broken shell. Perhaps this is due to the situations she has been exposed to; I cannot authoritatively say, as she seems too damaged for further tests. I believe it is time to study how she reacts to other external stimuli. She comes to, her head unusually heavy and light at the same time, her throat dry. Dr Ahmed places a cup of water in front of her and parted her lips with a straw connected to it; she sips almost gratefully, too tired to struggle as he loosens the strap holding her head a little bit and holds her head up. When she is done, he places the cup back on the table, and then re-tightens the strap. She fixes her eyes somewhere beyond the light, too tired to close her eyes. A whirring sound, at first distant but growing in insistence, starts to resonate around the room. She latches onto it and finally works her head to an angle to look. He is holding a small, circular saw. Her eyes go wide with shock. The presence of a new threat seems to have an effect on her as she is now struggling even harder than I thought possible. Her words straddle the divide between pleas and denial. I will now proceed to dismember her right hand. She screams loud enough to wake the dead. It is a scream torn from her darkest nightmares, her deepest fears. She almost disbelieves, but the pain, and the warm blood splattering her face and stomach is too real. She urinates on herself, not that she notices. She struggles against her bonds, trying as much as she can to pull away, but it is all to no avail. Nothing else matters but the blood and the pain, and escaping it all. 102 Tales from the Other Side
