Sports Punjab Police sweep men’s golf titles SK Sharma tees off at the Ranjitgarh Golf Club, Phillaur I t was Punjab Police all the way. Their golfers marked their stamp of dominance on home turf emerging men’s team and individual champions in both the gross and nett events of the 19th All India Police Golf Championship held on the greens of the Ranjitgarh Golf Club at the Punjab Police Academy in Phillaur on August 18. The two-member Punjab Police team of S K Sharma, DGP, Home Guards and Director PPA, Phillaur, and BUREAU REPORT Rupinder Singh, SSP, Vigilance, clinched the gross score team title with a score of 320. The champions made it a double with their team of Ishwar Singh and B. Chandershekhar winning the nett team title with a score of 286. Punjab Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa gave away the prizes. Punjab Police struck another medal with S.K. Sharma clinching the nett title in the individual event with a score of 135. One stroke behind was Prithvi Raj from Himachal Pradesh, followed by Nitin Aggarwal, Kerala Police, at third slot with a nett core of 139. B. Chandershekhar made it a clean sweep for Punjab Police winning the men’s individual title with a gross score of 151, with team-mate Rupinder Singh occupying the second slot with a score of 155. R K Srivastava from BSF finished third at 157. The ladies title predictably went to defending champion Tara Yadav of the CRPF, who has remained the golf 40 Punjab Advance October 2015

In the team event on gross score, the 1st runner up position was bagged by R S Rathore and R K Srivastava of Police with 301 points. In the fray for the 3-day tournament were nine DGPs, 24 ADGPs, 13 IGPs, 21 DIGs, one AIG and eight SSPs among the 92 participants vying for honours. Punjab cadre IPS officer Gurpreet Kaur Deo and CRPF deputy J&K, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Manipur, New Delhi, New Delhi (Ministry of Home Affairs – MHA) and Telengana. Other states and police organisations participating were Assam, Assam Rifles, Himachal Pradesh, tournament was held in Bengaluru (Karnataka) where Border Security Force (BSF) emerged winner in the gross series and National Security Guards were runners up. However in Net series Punjab Police team comprising of B. Chandrashekhar and R. S. Khatra were the winners. In 2013, in Srinagar (J&K) Punjab Police team comprising S. K.
