Celebrates Gay Pride<br />

On Friday, November 6 there will be a reception from 5 PM to 9 PM to kick<br />
off Gay Pride in Palm Springs. There is a great deal to celebrate. The variety<br />
of fine art at the gallery reaches out to the whole community in the spirit of<br />
celebration. Lee Balan, a featured artist, offers homo erotic imagery that is<br />
sophisticated and unique. The artist is concerned about the perception of<br />
reality. He is always questioning and never satisfied with glib answers or boring<br />
art. The art at the Woodman/Shimko Gallery is always inspiring and never<br />

I’ve always been involved with art and writing. I work in three different<br />
mediums: Digital Montage (using Photoshop), Assemblage, and Acrylic Painting.<br />
I became the Administrative Director for ONE in Long Beach (California), a<br />
gay and lesbian center where I initiated several art & writing programs. I was<br />
the first art-curator for the gay center in Palm Springs. I hosted a group called<br />
Quest for artists and writers that served the whole community for nine years.<br />
Currently I compile a list of Art & Writing events that I send as an email to 350<br />

As a young adult, I admitted myself to a mental hospital due to difficulties<br />
being accepted as a gay man. Ironically I became a mental health professional<br />
and worked as a manager for a “Clubhouse” program for adults with mental<br />
illness. I helped establish workshops in art and writing to help clients manage<br />
symptoms. I have a bachelor’s degree in art and a graduate certificate as a<br />
counselor-aide. My art has been exhibited in several galleries in California where<br />
I’ve lived for forty years. I won an award for a photo-montage entered in the<br />
last National Juried Show at the Palm Springs Museum. I have several awards<br />
for artistic merit. I’ve performed at Intersection in San Francisco and Beyond<br />
