Big, Bigger, Biggest
Whoever thought that lattice towers could only reach a height
of 100 metres was taught otherwise recently. With a hub
height of 160 metres, a prototype in the Lusatia region of
Germany is raising the bar. The 2.5 MW wind turbine was
erected in the summer of 2006 in Laasow, Brandenburg. The
assessment of the tower and machinery as well as the type
approval were carried out by Germanischer Lloyd Windenergie.
The progress of construction for Germany’s loftiest
wind turbine can be followed through the documentation
provided online (www.seeba-online.de), also in English.
