Summary
Morphological characteristics of nine Cytospora rubescens (teleomorph
Leucostoma cinctum) isolates obtained on PDA from infected peach branches at
the Fruska Gora Mountain region were studied in vitro and in vivo.
Pycnidia formation on PDA were 15-20 days after isolation, but sometimes
after more than 30 days, and two months after inoculation on twigs and branches.
Pycnidia are rounded, dark, 0.2-2 mm in diameter. The pycnidia formation varied
from sporadic to abundant. The pycnidiospores are extruded in a form of orange to
red droplets globules. They are one-celled, smooth, slightly curved with rounded
ends, hyaline, 5,0 – (6,6) – 8,5 x 1,5 – (1,7) – 2,5 ìm in size.
There are many locules variable in size and shape seen on vertical and
horizontal sections of pycnidia. Individual locules are fusioned into a single central
cavity and one ostiolum. Horizontal cuts of pycnidia also show that pycnidium is
encircle with black line – conceptacle.
In our investigations, teleomorph of this fungi was not found.
Key words: peach, Cytospora cincta, pycnidia, pycnidiospores, perithecia.
