Elementary interviews have been scheduled and this schedule is attached to the newsletter. Please call the school if you are unable to attend or need to fill in a blank time slot. Students in grades 4-9 are asked to attend with their parents. Report Cards and Parent Teacher Interviews You are strongly encouraged to review your child’s report card with them prior to interviews. Ask them how they feel about their learning in each subject area. Do they know what is expected to be successful in that course? What must they, as a learner, do to improve or maintain their grade? Perhaps make this a plan, in writing, that together you can refer to during the next reporting period. This discussion and plan can be the starting point of your interview with your child’s teacher. Parents and students will have an opportunity to view and discuss student work samples during the interview process. During our second set of interviews, later this year, each student will host a student led conference and share some of their portfolio highlights. Parents are asked to stop at the office to receive information regarding the KPS Parent Portal. Your family’s passwords will also be provided to you at that time. JH VOLLEYBALL TEAMS TO REGIONALS Congratulations to our boys’ team who won gold at the county tournament. They will host Regionals which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 th . KPS REMEMBERS Thank you to all who contributed to our service of remembrance and thanks also to those who donated lunch for our guests. SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING …Wednesday, Nov. 28 th at 7pm… 2012-13 Budget information will be shared by Mrs. Young. A discussion regarding the use of parent volunteers in the school will also take place. All parents are welcome to attend. SCHOOL/SCHOOL COUNCIL/COMMUNITY Healthy Lifestyle Activities Project Begins On November 20 th and 21 st our first activity for the 2012- 13 year begins. Students from Grades 1-9 will have the opportunity to learn how to curl from a SACA representative. This activity will take place in our gym. A week later our organizing committee has made arrangements for Grades 4-9 to go to the Sedgewick Curling Club where some of our parents and some club members have generously volunteered to provide lessons on ice. Students will have an opportunity to actually participate in a curling game. These sessions will last 2 hours for each class. Permission forms and more information for parents will go home on November 21 st . Other activities being planned for the year are skiing at the local Valley Ski Hill for Grades 4-9, bowling at the Agri-Plex, various swimming activities and the yoga program. More information on these activities will be sent out closer to the activity date. MINI SLAMMERS …went off to Bawlf on November 15 th for their year end tournament. According to all reports, it was a great deal of fun. Thanks to Miss Hines who coached this team and to Dean Kelndorfer and Mike Borth who helped with the coaching of our two teams in Bawlf.

*The Big One – Killam Cyclones Swim Club 25 th Annual<br />

Christmas Craft and Trade Fair on Saturday, Dec. 1 st at<br />

Killam Community Centre from 10am-3pm. Free admission,<br />

*Child Development Walk In Clinic: Tuesday, Nov. 27 th<br />

from 9am-noon at the Indoor Playground. Learn about or<br />

have questions answered about how your child speaks,<br />

hears, moves, follows directions; their printing; their<br />

sensitivity <strong>to</strong> noises, clothing, textures or messy hand play;<br />

their coughing, wheezing, asthma & how <strong>to</strong> use a puffer.<br />

Therapists will be available. Sponsored by Parents for Fun<br />

in Flagstaff.<br />

INCLEMENT WEATHER<br />

Please note the following changes regarding route<br />

cancellations. Bus routes will be cancelled when the air<br />

temperature reaches -40 Celsius or when the air<br />

temperature combined with wind chill reaches -40 Celsius.<br />

Air temperature and wind chill will be determined by<br />

accessing www.theweathernetwork.com and viewing the<br />

information for the <strong>to</strong>wn in which the school is located.<br />

This website displays temperature and wind chill for each<br />

area in BRSD #31. When considering whether or not a bus<br />

route should be cancelled due <strong>to</strong> fog, the driver shall make<br />

an effort <strong>to</strong> contact some parents at various locations on<br />

their route <strong>to</strong> determine the severity of the fog and<br />

whether it is widespread or localized. Drivers have the<br />

option <strong>to</strong> advise parents that they will try <strong>to</strong> run at a later<br />

time since fog generally lifts as the sun rises. Refer <strong>to</strong><br />

BRSD Administrative Policy 131 on the BRSD website for<br />

more detailed information.<br />

2012 FLAGSTAFF CHRISTMAS SHARING PROGRAM and<br />

ADOPT A FAMILY PROGRAM<br />

Anyone wishing <strong>to</strong> drop off food donations or <strong>to</strong> volunteer can call the Christmas Sharing cell phone #780-390-0085. We would appreciate donation<br />

of goods between December 3 rd and December 14 th . Individuals and/or groups planning <strong>to</strong> donate turkeys, please advise us by December 3 rd <strong>to</strong><br />

assist in planning for our projected needs. (Please be advised that we can not distribute expired food, and would ask that you check the<br />

expiration dates on any food donations.)<br />

As the “Adopt a Family Program” was such a great success in past years, we will be running this program once again. Anyone interested in adopting<br />

a family, please call 780-390-0085 before December 3 rd . We ask that you limit your gift purchases <strong>to</strong> approximately $50 per adopted person. Please<br />

leave all gifts unwrapped with some gift wrap included in your family’s gift bundle. We reserve the right <strong>to</strong> redistribute any excess purchases <strong>to</strong><br />

other persons in need. If you decide <strong>to</strong> give clothing, be sure you include the “Gift Receipt” in case an exchange is necessary by the recipient. Due<br />

<strong>to</strong> allergies, we ask that you do not include stuffed <strong>to</strong>ys! Gifts must be delivered <strong>to</strong> the Food Town Grocery S<strong>to</strong>re no later than December 11 th .<br />

With their permission, if you are aware of families in need, please feel free <strong>to</strong> submit the name, telephone number and the particular need(s). All<br />

information provided will be handled with the strictest confidence. Please submit all requests by December 3 rd , 2012. Application forms can be<br />

picked up in Killam, at the Flagstaff Food Bank Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00-11:00; at your Town/Village Office; or by phoning 780-<br />

KPS Christmas Sharing<br />

KPS students will have a Christmas Sharing opportunity on Thursday, December 13 th .<br />

Parents and siblings are welcome <strong>to</strong> attend.<br />

Students are encouraged <strong>to</strong> bring a non-perishable food item or <strong>to</strong>y for the Flagstaff<br />

Christmas Tradition Sharing Program.
