the Baptist faith and
retired from the Control
Office with the State of

of Eastgate Barber Shop
in Raleigh and worked at
City Barber Shop in
Creedmoor for ten years.

Addie Dease Hobgood,
age 76, of Oxford, died at
her home surrounded by
her family, on Monday,
October 14, 2013 after an
extended illness.
She was a longtime
resident of Oxford, a
beloved wife, mother,
grandmother and a great
grandmother.
A native of Halifax,
VA, she was the daughter
of the late Lynwood and
Maggie Dease. Addie was
a member of West Oxford
Baptist Church, and was
retired from Murdoch
Center. Her hobbies
included canning, sewing,
yard sales, and the Oxford
Farmer’s Market.
Funeral services was
conducted at 3:00 PM on
Wednesday, October, 16,
2013 at Gentry-Newell &
Vaughan Chapel by
Reverend Wesley Garner.
Burial followed in
Elmwood Cemetery. The
family received friends
from 1:30 PM until 3:00
PM prior to the service at
the funeral home.
She leaves behind a
husband of 59 years, Jim
Hobgood; three children,
Bonnie Smith of Durham,
Jimmy Hobgood and wife,
Cheryl of Oxford and
Tammy Williamson and
husband, Danny of
Bullock; grandchildren,
Caroline Cash, husband

Mrs. Marjorie E.
Proffitt, 75, of Stem,
passed away on
Wednesday, October 9,
2013 after a brief battle
with cancer. In

Marjorie was born in
Elizabeth County,
Virginia to the late
William R. Cardon, Sr.,
and Sarah Elizabeth
Cardon, and raised in an
Army family. She is
survived by her sister
Jeanette (Charlie)
Daniels, of Rocky Mount
and brother Marvin
(Marti) Cardon, of
Raleigh. She is also
survived by her children,
Susie Kayed of Raleigh,
Jamey Trammell of New
Jersey, and Natalie
Rowntree of Stem, their
children
and
grandchildren.
She will also be
missed by the many
cousins she worked to
bring together through
pictures and her website.

John Furman Jackson,
Jr. She was a lifetime
member of Fellowship
Baptist Church and coowner
of Dutchville
Builders in Creedmoor.

damaged windows to a
residence located on
Lauren Mill Road in
Oxford that is under
renovation and currently
vacant.
On 10/9/2013, at
approximately 4:00 a.m.,
an unknown person
entered the Stem Mini-
Mart by damaging the
roof and entering in
through the ceiling. Once
inside, the suspect
damaged the cash
register and then left
with an undisclosed
amount of money. Video
of the incident is
currently being reviewed.
On 08/10/2013,
unknown person(s)
entered an unlocked
vehicle in the area of
Coachmans Trail in Stem
and removed a Kenwood
12 inch subwoofer truck
speaker in box, and a
music CD. The CD had
the date of June 29, 2013
