The course, called “Let's Have an Afternoon Tea,” is offered by the college in collaboration with The Old North State Tea Society. Classes will meet on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 until 4 p.m., starting March 5. The final class and “graduation” ceremony is an actual afternoon tea party planned and facilitated by the students at Magnolia Manor in Warrenton on March 18. “Tea is good for your health, and this fun, informative class is a way to recapture civility and learn etiquette in a friendly setting,” according to the instructor for the class, Constance Lue of Oxford, who founded both the Old North State Tea Society and this class at VGCC in 2006. Lue has studied under the foremost authorities on Afternoon Tea in Great Britain and the United States. Students will learn about the history of tea; the difference between an afternoon tea party, a royal tea party and “High Tea;” and the proper way to make the best pot of tea. They will have tastings of a wide variety of teas (black, white, green, Oolongs and herbal) at each class meeting. Participants might use what they learn to hold their own tea parties for children as well as their adult friends. Afternoon Tea also can be a way to raise funds for churches and clubs. Completion of the course guarantees automatic membership in the Old North State Tea Society, which offers opportunities to participate in group visits to various tea rooms and tea events. The Society also conducts charitable service/outreach projects, visiting schools, nursing homes and Boys and Girls Clubs. The cost of the course is $45, which includes a valuable resource manual with recipes for tea time, tips on flower arranging and a section on etiquette. I think that this is an important decision It will not benefit the rural community, nor will it assist in maintaining existing rural roads, nor will it reduce increased travel frequency on these roads. Pollution smells, and so does this proposed project, especially for those of us that reside just a few short steps away from the site. Your reconsideration is appreciated. Hayden and Theresa Shackelford Creedmoor WOMEN IN COMBAT WRONG To The Editor: While I totally endorse equal rights for all, I cannot say the same for the recent ruling that will allow women to fight alongside male soldiers. To me, it signifies just how far society has traveled down the wrong road on a host of issues, and, this latest one signals to me one of extreme danger. Danger, not just to the entire concept of the definition of a woman, but also to the spiritual consequences. God created woman to be a “companion to man.” It was man’s duty to reside in domain over everything else. I have to believe that also included fighting wars, started by men who benefit from such. A woman brings forth life; she should not be put in a position, therefore, to take a life. Yet this is what combatant women will be programmed to do. We already witness the severe, and often, disabling psychological repercussions in men who go to war. The consequences for women would be almost unimaginable! I realize this letter won’t do anything to halt the action, and there will be many, including women. who might beg to differ with me. I have always subscribed, however, to the simple concept of, when in doubt about anything involving man versus God, I choose to take the side of God. I may be politically incorrect in man’s world, but if I’m okay in God’s world, that is fine with me. John I. is merely pollution denoted by a sanitized acronym.
I think that this is an important decision It will
not benefit the rural community, nor will it assist in
maintaining existing rural roads, nor will it reduce
increased travel frequency on these roads.
Pollution smells, and so does this proposed
project, especially for those of us that reside just a
few short steps away from the site.
Your reconsideration is appreciated.
WOMEN IN COMBAT WRONG
To The Editor:
While I totally endorse equal rights for all, I
cannot say the same for the recent ruling that will
allow women to fight alongside male soldiers. To
me, it signifies just how far society has traveled down
the wrong road on a host of issues, and, this latest
one signals to me one of extreme danger.
Danger, not just to the entire concept of the
definition of a woman, but also to the spiritual
consequences. God created woman to be a
“companion to man.” It was man’s duty to reside in
domain over everything else. I have to believe that
also included fighting wars, started by men who
benefit from such.
A woman brings forth life; she should not be put
in a position, therefore, to take a life. Yet this is
what combatant women will be programmed to do.
We already witness the severe, and often, disabling
psychological repercussions in men who go to war.
The consequences for women would be almost
unimaginable!
I realize this letter won’t do anything to halt the
action, and there will be many, including women. who
might beg to differ with me.
I have always subscribed, however, to the simple
concept of, when in doubt about anything involving
man versus God, I choose to take the side of God.
I may be politically incorrect in man’s world, but
if I’m okay in God’s world, that is fine with me.
