The next time you feel that nobody loves you, no one cares, or that no one ever notices you, think of these people. In a hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, patients always died in the same bed, on Sunday morning, at about 11:00 am, regardless of their medical condition. This puzzled the doctors and some even thought it had something to do with the supernatural. No one could solve the mystery as to why the deaths occurred around 11:00 a. m. Sunday, so a worldwide team of experts was assembled to investigate the cause of the incidents. The next Sunday morning, a few minutes before 11:00 a. m. all of the doctors and nurses nervously waited outside the ward to see for themselves what the terrible phenomenon was all about. Some were holding wooden crosses, prayer books, and other holy objects to ward off the evil spirits. Just when the clock struck 11:00, Pookie Johnson, the part-time Sunday sweeper, entered the ward and unplugged the life support system so he could use the vacuum cleaner. *********************** The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez Oil spill in Alaska was $80,000. At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were being released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers. A minute later, in full view, a Killer Whale ate them both. *********************** A woman came home to find her husband in the kitchen shaking frantically, almost in a dancing frenzy, with some kind of wire running from his waist towards the electric kettle. Intending to jolt him away from the deadly current, she whacked him with a handy plank of wood, breaking his arm in two places. Up to that moment, he had been happily listening to his Walkman. *********************** Two animal rights defenders were protesting the cruelty of sending pigs to a slaughterhouse in Bonn, Germany. Suddenly, all two thousand pigs broke loose and escaped through a broken fence, stampeding madly. The two helpless protesters were trampled to death. *********************** Iraqi terrorist Khay Rahnajet didn’t pay enough postage on a letter bomb. It came back with ‘Return to Sender’ stamped on it. Forgetting it was the bomb, he opened it and was blown to bits. THIS WEEK’S RECIPES BEACH DIP 1/2 lb. smoked whitefish or other smoked fish 1/c. sour cream 2 Tbsp. lemon juice 2 Tbsp. chives, chopped 1 tsp. instant minced onions 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. dried rosemary 6 peppercorns, crushed 1 dash of ground cloves chopped parsley Remove skin and bones from the fish. Flake the fish. Combine all ingredients except parsley and crackers. Chill at least one hour to blend flavors. Sprinkle dip with parsley. Makes approximately one and 3/4 cups of dip. Serve with assorted chips or raw vegetables. APPLESAUCE CAKE 2-1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. cinnamon 1-1/4 tsp. baking soda 1 c. nuts chopped 1 tsp. salt 1 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. cloves 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1-1/4 c. applesauce 1/2 tsp. allspice 1 small jar maraschino cherries, (drained &chopped) Mix all ingredients together. Grease bundt pan using a non-stick cooking spray. Do not use flour. Place half of the nuts and cherries into groves in bundt pan. Pour dough into pan, covering nuts and cherries. Bake for one hour at 350 degrees. BLUEBERRY SUGAR CAKE 2 cans crescent rolls 1-1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened 1/3 c. water 1 tsp. almond extract 1-1/2 c. blueberries 1/2 c. powdered sugar 1-1/2 Tbs. cornstarch 1/2 stick butter, melted 3 Tbs. water 1 c. brown sugar Spread one can of crescent rolls into bottom of a buttered 13x9 pan. Mix cream cheese, almond extract and powdered sugar. Spread onto rolls in pan. In a saucepan heat blueberries in 1/3 cup water until berries are done. Mix cornstarch and three tablespoons cold water and add to blueberry mixture. Spread over cream cheese mixture. Top with remaining can of crescent rolls. Drizzle with melted butter. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done. PICKLED OKRA 1 qt. white vinegar 1 c. water 1/2 c. salt (makes vinegar mixture for six pints) Sweet pepper to taste One pod of hot pepper per pickling jar Par boil three-inch okra pods for 1 to 1-1/2 minutes. Cut up sweet pepper. Pack par-boiled okra, cut up pepper and whole hot pepper in sterilized jars. Pour boiled vinegar mixture over the okra pickles and seal. SOAP OPERA REVIEW BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL Hope caught Liam off guard with her declaration that if they are going to be married for good, she wants a wedding day do-over to erase the memories of their first attempt. Rick backed Hope’s decision to move out of Liam’s home and discouraged his sister from giving Liam a second chance. When Steffy found out Hope’s plans, she warned Brooke that it could result in Hope losing Liam forever, especially since Steffy is focused on showing Liam that she is the right person for him. Liam begged Hope for forgiveness and impatiently waited for her to decide if she’ll take him back. Marcus and Dayzee basked in their love as they recalled the complicated path that brought them together. BUNHEADS Fanny surprised Michelle by inviting her on a road trip to see a play in Los Angeles. Michelle was taken aback by the news that Fanny has a longdistance boyfriend. Conor, the director of the play, made an impression on Michelle. Sasha’s rebellious behavior began to adversely affect the unity of Fanny’s class, prompting Fanny to hand Boo a much desired role in an upcoming performance. One of the students danced with a boy named Jordan, an event that could have a major effect on her life. DALLAS On the final episode of “Dallas’” first season, the Ewings looked past their differences and banded together when a loved one faced a medical crisis. Christopher and Elena started to learn that not everyone is who they appear to be, and that even the people closest to them have another side they don’t know about. Ann was shown to be guarding something from her past that could carry big implications for the future. The revelation of long-buried secrets created an explosive situation within the Ewing clan. DAYS OF OUR LIVES “Days of our Lives” returns next week. GENERAL HOSPITAL: John was arrested after he attacked Todd as Sam witnessed the entire event. When Carly learned that Todd used Heather’s photo of Sam and John’s kiss to destroy McBain’s relationship with Natalie, she managed to persuade Todd to end his quest for vengeance, and he dropped the charges. Meanwhile, the same photo led Jason and Sam to a frank discussion about the state of their marriage. Lulu firmly denied that she’s pregnant when Maxie saw her throwing up, but she later took a pregnancy test. When Sonny questioned Trey about his intentions toward Kristina, Trey stated that he cares for her. However, Joe Jr. ordered Trey to step up his efforts to marry Sonny’s daughter. Unaware of Trey’s deceit, Sonny prepared to propose to Kate. THE L.A. COMPLEX Fearing for his future, Kaldrick reconnected with his past by paying a visit to his father. Connor was forced to make a difficult choice. Raquel suffered a blow to her ego on the set of the TV show. Abby reached out a hand in friendship to her co-star on “Saving Grace.” Nick grew tired of Sabrina’s never-ending cruel pranks and thought the way to get even would be to beat her at her own game. On a day that Simon had to face several big auditions, Beth’s big mouth landed her in trouble. PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Attempting to save her college career, Spencer, accompanied by Aria, found herself at the Kahn brothers’ bash, only to face a very different type of party game. What originally was supposed to have been a quick visit to ask a favor of CeCe’s friend turned into a showdown between the girls and Jenna during a game of “Truth.” Spencer and Aria were forced to reveal some of their own deeply held truths to get the answers they need from their adversary. The Butner-Creedmoor News, Thursday, August 2, 2012 3a Upcoming Events And Activities NEW MINISTRY The public is invited to a new ministry in the Butner/Creedmoor area called Disciple of Christ Fellowship Church Bible Study at the “Best Western Conference Room, located off I-85 at Exit 191 at 6:30 p.m. The founder of this ministry is Apostle Vanessa R. Brooks of Henderson, N. C. These bible studies will be held each Thursday night. For more information call the church administrator at (252) 767-3414. YOGA CLASSES Creedmoor Wellness is offering Yoga classes Mondays and Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. and Monday evenings at 6:15 p.m. — for all fitness levels. FREE ZUMBA CLASSES The Christian Faith Center is hosting free Zumba classes on Saturdays for the month of August from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the gymnasium. (No class on August 11th or 13th.) BOAT RENTALS The Lake Rogers Park boat rentals and snack concessions reopened for the 2012 season on Friday, April 13th. BIBLE CLASSES A new Bible Class is being offered Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 9:45 at Greater Joy Church located aat 209 West C Street, Butner. The class is free and open to the public. YOGA CLASSES Yoga classes are held every Tuesday at 7pm and on Thursday at 7pm there is a new spinning class. The Road to Fitness Gym at the Creedmoor Food Lion Shopping Center. First class is always free. Classes are taught by Rebecca Hattenbraun, certified and with 10 years experience. She is also a certified personal trainer. “Insanity” exercise classes are also held at The Road to Fitness every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:45 and they are always FREE!!! MID WEEK SERVICE A mid-week service will be held at Greater Joy Butner each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and come as you are. Greater Joy is located at 209 West C Street, Butner.
