MATTIE DELOIS COOPER
Mattie Delois Cooper, age
52, died Wednesday, October
21, 2009, at Duke Medical
Center.
A native of Granville
County, she was the daughter
of Dolphine Peace Cooper and
the late Ennis Dave Cooper.
She was a graduate of South
Granville High School and a
member of the True Faith
Fellowship Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother,
survivors include three
daughters, Talanda Cooper
and Lavasha Jones of the
home, and Latasha Cooper of
Franklinton; four sisters, Rev.
Virginia Cooper and
acquline Harris, both of
xford, Barbara Cooper and
Arnetta Cooper, both of
reedmoor; three brothers,
avid Cooper, Issac Cooper
nd Rev. Norman Cooper, all
f Creedmoor.
Funeral services were
onducted on Sunday, October
5th, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at
hestnut Grove Baptist
hurch by Rev. Richard E.
ackson. Burial followed in
he church cemetery.
The family received
isitors from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
n Saturday, October 24th, at
etts & Son Funeral Home,
nc. in Oxford.

Myra Lucille Herndon
Caviness died October 25,
2009 at her home at 3032
Hester Road, Creedmoor.
Born May 13, 1927 to
Thomas C. Herndon and Lela
Couch Herndon of Durham,
Myra was the youngest of 10
children. Myra was the
mother of two daughters and
one son, Michael Thomas
Caviness, who was killed in a
car accident in 2000.
Educated in Durham
County Schools, she
graduated from Lowes Grove
High School. Her first job was
with the American Tobacco
Company. Later she worked
in Research Triangle Park
making components for
computers. She married the
late Thomas Jefferson
Caviness. She was of the
Baptist faith.
Surviving are two
daughters, Barbara Jean
White and husband, Joe
White, of Creedmoor, and
Bonnie Woods Craig of
Creedmoor; seven
grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren;
and one greatgreat
- granddaughter. Myra
also leaves a brother, Byron
M. Herndon, of Durham; and
sister, Lillian Duke, of
Virginia beach, Va., and many
nieces and nephews of the
local area.
Funeral services were
held on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
at Hudson Funeral Chapel,
211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham,
officiated by Chaplain Jodi
Simmons. She was buried at
Carolina Memorial Gardens
in Creedmoor.
The family received
friends on Tuesday from 7 to
9 p. m. at Hudson Funeral
Home and other times at the
home.

Vin Shaw has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded in the Boy Scouts of America. Fewer than 4 percent of all scouts
earn the Eagle rank. In his effort, Vin has mastered skills of leadership, service, and outdoor know-how. Vin has also learned the importance
of good citizenship and ethical behavior. Vin’s service project was to create a community prayer garden at Community United Methodist
Church on “E” Street in Butner. Vin was involved in all aspects of the project from design and planning, acquisition of material and
coordination of labor. Vin is a member of Troop 648 in Butner. The persons in the picture are, from left to right, Nick Long, Eddie Shaw,
Jamie Smith, Vin Shaw, Fred Kughn, Katherine Perrera-Shaw, and Kevin Rumsey.
