You can also place an order with either of these ladies for a cake, pie, etc. BULLOCK’S CHURCH CELEBRATES 181 YEARS Bullock’s Methodist United Church, located at 2682 HWY 15 North of Creedmoor, will celebrate 181 years of worship on Sunday, October 6th at 11AM. Everyone is welcome to join in this special Homecoming celebration. The message will be delivered by Reverend David Grissom, Stem- Bullock’s Charge minister 1972-76. A traditional covered dish meal will follow the service on the Church grounds. REVIVAL SCHEDULED Living Word Baptist Church located at 1105 Green Road in Creedmoor will be having Revival with Rev. Dale Tilley from Ringgold, Georgia from October 6th through 9th. Sunday, October 6th services will be at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. All other services will be at 7 p.m. each night. Reverend Tilley will be singing, playing banjo and delivering the special messages. Everyone is invited. LUPUS SUPPORT GROUP MEETING The Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter (LFANC) will be hosting their October support group meeting for those living with lupus, their family and caregivers, on Saturday, October 9th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in the Wilson Parlor, 305 East Main Street, Durham. The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month. There is no charge to attend the meeting, and drop-ins are welcome. UMI GARRETT TO PERFORM Live On Stage, Inc. and Henderson Com-munity Concert Association has an-nounced the youthful piano prodigy, Umi Garrett, will be performing as part of the 2013-2014 Concert Season. Garrett, a 13-year-old international awardwinning classical pianist, will be per-forming at Vance - Granville Community College on Friday, October 11th, at 8:00 p.m. This is the second concert in the Henderson Community Concert Association’s 2013-2014 series. WALK/RUN FUNDRAISER The Foundation of Hope for Research and Treatment of Mental Illness presents the 25th Annual Thad and Alice Eure Walk for Hope and the 5th Annual Run for Hope on Sunday, October 13th at the Angus Barn Restaurant in Raleigh. The Walk for Hope is a 10k/5k or 1 mile walk from the Angus Barn through Umstead State Park. The Run for Hope, a USA Track & Field certified 10k or 5k run takes the same route as the walk from the Angus Barn through Umstead State Park and returns to the Barn. The run registration/ chip pick up opens at 7:00 a. m. Runners take off at 8:00 a. m. The walk registration opens at 8:00 a. m. Walkers take off at 10 a. m. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $60 (adults), $30 (children under 12 and students). All of the proceeds raised by the participants on walk day will help fund research for mental illness. At the conclusion of the walk there is a celebratory festival with food, music, prizes and mental health informational booths. JOB FAIR Department of the Navy will be conducting a Hire The Heroes Career Fair October 16 at Hilton – Midtown and October 17 – North Raleigh Hilton intended to target veterans within the greater Wake County area. This is the 4th year the Department of Navy has conducted this event to attract wounded warriors and returning heroes. AMERICAN LEGION POST 90 HOSTING FREEDOM RIDE The American Legion Post 90, in Oxford, is hosting its first ever motorcycle ride. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, October 19th, at the American Legion Hut, 914 Williamsboro Street (158- East Business), next to Lewis Electric and Hilltop Lumber Company. Riders will depart at 11 o’clock and the return time will be at approximately 1:45 p.m. with one-half way stop. All bikers are welcomed to attend this event to support veterans. Entry fee is 20 per rider and $10 for passenger. Hamburgers and hot-dogs and drinks will be provided at the end of the ride as well as a 50/ 50 drawing, and door prizes. Any non-rider wishing to eat can do so for $5.00. Music will be provided by DJ Brandon B. The general public is invited to come out and see the bikers off and/or be there for their return. This will also be a good opportunity to meet local Legion members and get first hand information about Post 90 and the positive things the Post is doing for the community. In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental steward-ships, girls grow courageous and strong. Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decisionmaking; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others. Girl Scout Troop 311 to Fundraise for Memorial at Lake Rogers Park Girl Scout Troop 311 is working hard to achieve their Bronze and Silver Awards (the second and third highest honors in the Girl Scouting community). In order to earn each of these awards, the Troop must find new ways to give back to their community. Knowing they wanted to do something in honor of service men and women, the girls decided on a brick memorial at Lake Rogers Park. The memorial will consist of a flagpole in the middle of a 6’ x 6’ brick foundation, with each brick “In Honor Of” or “In Memory Of” service men and women. The bricks will be sold for $50.00 each, which will not only pay for the name of the service man or woman to be placed on the brick, but also an emblem featuring the branch of the military, fire department, or police department in which they served, or if they were a POW or are MIA. The Troop will be fundraising and raising awareness for this project this Saturday, September 21st, at the Creedmoor Music Festival. After the Music Festival, bricks will be available to purchase through a website that will be linked on the City’s website at www.cityof creedmoor.org. Hens & Chicks Sewing School To Hold Open House Carol Montague believes children should have an opportunity to learn a skill that “has been dismissed as non-essential in today’s fast-paced society.” As a result, she teaches sewing of clothes and crafts at Hen & Chicks Sewing School in her Oxford home, located off Tar River Road. An open house and registration for the coming school year will be held Saturday, September 28th from 10 to 12 a.m. at her home. Children, ages 8 and above, are welcome to register although the school is open to adults as well. You will be able to view curriculum, samples and meet the instructor. Classes will run the first week of October and finish the end of May and meet either Tuesdays or Thursdays, 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. each week. Cost is $60 per month with a once-a-year $50 registration fee which includes instruction book. Parents supply materials and notions. The school supplies sewing machines, tools, and personalized instruction. Some activities Montague has in mind during the sewing year might include an end of the year fashion show, donations of student handmade items to local charities, and a field trip. Montague has taught sewing for the last 10 years in her Washington State home. She hosted several sewing camps here this past June. She began sewing at the age of 12 on her grandmother’s treadle sewing machine.
