LAURA NEWBY
BURNETTE
Laura Newby
Burnette, age 97, of
Oxford, died at Universal
Health Care on Tuesday,
September 10, 2013. A
native of Granville
County, she was the wife
of the late Fenton A.
Burnette and the
daughter of William
Newby and Jennie
Keeton, both deceased.
Laura retired from,
Granville Manufacturing
Company after more
than 30 years of service.
For many years she
followed her love for
cooking and sewing until
she was 93 years and her
health would not let her
continue. Until her
death, she was the oldest
living graduate of Stovall
High School and the
oldest member of Salem
United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include
her daughter, Joyce
Burnette O’Brien
(Charles) of Orlando,
Florida; son Bill
Burnette (Nancy) of
Oxford, five grandchildren,
nine greatgrandchildren
and two
great-great grandchildren,
and many
nieces and nephews. She
was preceded in death by
her nine siblings,
Virginia Newby
O’Flanagan, Cora Ann
Newby Henderson,
Willie Newby, Marvin
Newby, Nell Newby
Currin, Raymond
Newby, Ollie Newby,
Eloise Newby Cash and
Lucy Newby Jones.
Funeral services
were conducted at
Gentry-Newell &
Vaughan Funeral Home
in Oxford on Saturday,
September 14 at 2:00 p.
m. by Reverend Glenn
Stallsmith with the
family receiving friends
from 12:30 until 2:00 p.
m. prior to the service.
Burial followed at
Meadowview Memorial
Park. At other times the
family was at the home of
her son, Bill Burnette and
wife Nancy, 404 Harris
Street in Oxford.
Omission of flowers
is requested. Memorials

ROBERT WILLIAM
BULLOCK, JR.
Robert William
Bullock, Jr., of Cary,
passed away Friday,
September 13, 2013 at his
residence.
Born in Durham
County, he was the son of
the late Robert William
Bullock, Sr. Mr. Bullock
was also preceded in
death by a step-mother,
Faye Bullock; and a
sister, Peggy Bullock
Wells. He was a health
care volunteer.
Survivors include
his mother, Betty Sue
Bullock and husband,
Billy Turner, of
Creedmoor; aunts,
Dorothy Evans and Linda
Jeffreys; uncle Clarence
Goss; and several nieces
and nephews.
A funeral service
was conducted at 11 a.m.
Monday at Clements
Funeral Chapel in
Durham, with Rev. G.
John Rigsbee officiating.
Burial was in Community
Memorial Gardens in
Stem. The family
received friends Sunday
from 6 to 8 p. m. at
Clements Funeral Home.
Flowers are
acceptable. Memorial

BRIAN KEITH ADCOCK
Brian Keith Adcock,
46, a lifetime resident of
Granville County passed
away Sunday, September
15, 2013 at his home.
He was the son of
the late Otha Howard
and Barbara Jean
Adcock. He was born in
Vance County but lived
most of his life in the
Mountain Creek
community. He was of the
Baptist faith and was
medically retired.
Memorial services will
be conducted at 7:30 p. m.

Barbara Saunders
Pilkington, 65, a
longtime resident of
Granville County passed
away Monday,
September 16th, 2013 at
Wake Medical Center, in
Raleigh, after an
extended illness.
A native of
Granville County she
was the daughter of the
late Thomas and
Kathleen Dease
Saunders. She was of the
Baptist faith and retired
from Murdoch Center in
Butner.

pump/air conditioning
unit at a vacant residence
located on East Thollie
Green Road in Stem and
stole the unit. (Det.

removed a four wheeler
from a shed located on
West Lyon Station Road
in Stem. The four
wheeler is a 2007 Artic
Cat 700 EFI 4x4 LE; orange/metallic
in color
with tubular rear bumper
and a gun boot
attachment. Also
reported taken was
assorted tools, an
automatic deer feeder

removed a cash box that
contained U.S. Currency
and vehicle titles.

residence located on
Frazier Lane in
Franklinton and
removed various items.
Entry was also made to
storage buildings and
various items were
stolen.
