Notes for MARY C. LUGINBILL:
History of Richardson County, Spicer Township, NE
Mary Luginbill ws born in Andrew County, Missouri, in April 1854. Mary, the first white girl in Richardson County,
Missouri, came with her parents, John and Elizabeth Welti Luginbill, to their farm along the banks of the Four Mile
Creek. Her father had waiteduntil her birth to bring his family to the area he had selected for their home, in1853.
She attended a country school near her home. Mary learned to keep house and weave the cloth needed for their
clothes.
Occasionally a traveling missionary or circuit rider would come through and hold services for the pioneers living in the
area. The neighbor would meet at the Luginbill home, where church services were conducted. It was on such an
occasion that she was baptized in the water of the Four Mile Creek. She was confirmed in 1880, becoming a member
of the German Evangelical Church Society, later to be the Four Mile Reformed Church.
In 1873 she was united in marriage to John Edward "Ed" Wissler. They established their home south of what ws to
become Humbuldt, Nebraska.
