she died of Malaria in Cabin Creek, Johnson Count)", Arkansas in 1873.<br />

Traveling the Hard Way<br />

Since Williatn Ja1nes <strong>Snodgrass</strong>, Sr. was in poor health, he and his wife Winifred "\Vinnie" Norton Bradley decided to 1nove west after<br />

the Civil War in about 1870 to see if his health would i1nprovc. Winnie had several cousins that lived at Cabin Creek, Johnson County,<br />

Arkansas. They decided to go to Cabin Creek. They sold 1nost of their household furnishings and loaded what was left of their<br />

processions in two wagons with two gocx::I tea1ns of horses and their children.<br />

Willimn and Winnie <strong>Snodgrass</strong> and their children traveled overland to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Fro1n Chattanooga they loaded their<br />

tea1ns of horses, wagons and possessions on a flatboat and floated do\.\-'n the Tennessee River to the Ohio River and to Paducah,<br />

Kentucky. They then floated down to the Mississippi River and later changed to the Arkansas River. They then traveled by stemnboat<br />

up the Arkansas River to Big Piney River, near Clarksville, Johnson County. Arkansas.<br />

Winnie had several cousins living in Cabin Creek, Arkansas. Williain and Winnie farmed and lived near Clarksville at Cabin Creek,<br />

Johnson County, Arkansas for about two or three years. Their daughter Martha Alice <strong>Snodgrass</strong> died of 1nalaria in 1873 at Cabin<br />

Creek. After Martha Alice died Williatn and Winnie decided to 1nove again.<br />

Winnie had two cousins. Becky and Mint Ehns living in Su1n1ners, Washington County, Arkansas. After a visit to the Elins, in about<br />

1872, they decided to 1nove near Lincoln, Washington County, Arkansas. While there, Winnie and Willimn traded one ¥/agon and tea1n<br />

of horses for a four roo1n log house, sealed inside \Vi th \\leather board and outside with siding. The fann had about one hundred acres of<br />

good fannl and.<br />

According to the old Rauch Fmnily Bible, Winifred "Winnie" Lou <strong>Snodgrass</strong> \.\ 1 as born in Cabin Creek, Arkansas. It is not sure where<br />

the next child Elnora (Note) <strong>Snodgrass</strong> was born. However the two children born after Elnora were born in Washington County,<br />

Arkansas. These two other children were E1n1na D. and Anna Augusta .<strong>Snodgrass</strong>.<br />
