real explorers. The New Lakeland area at the entrance to
the city, the vineyards along the Saale and Unstrut rivers,
Dessau and the Wörlitzer Park or the Luther memorials in

Halle an der Saale –
The City of Handel
The name of the 1,000 year old town comes from the Celtic “hall”
meaning “the place of salt-making”. The valuable mineral was mined
here until 1964 and this shaped the town’s development. The landmarks
and symbol of Halle are its five towers; four are the spires
of the Market Church where Luther’s death mask is kept. The city’s
most famous son is Georg Friedrich Handel. A trip to Giebichenstein
Castle, idyllically situated on a bluff above the Saale river, concludes
the city tour.

Luther Town Wittenberg
In the Footsteps of the Reformation
Nearly everything in Wittenberg evokes Martin Luther: the Castle
Church with its bronze doors inscribed with Luther’s 95 theses and
home to the tombs of both Luther and Melanchthon; the Municipal
Church which houses the Cranach Altar, the Luther Hall, the
Melanchthon House and the Elector Residence… Twenty years
was all it took to ensure Wittenberg’s place in history. The great era
started with Luther’s posting of his theses in 1517 and ended with
his burial in the Castle Church in 1546. Succumb to the charms of
the town known as the “Mother of the Reformation” and track the
movement which changed the world from here!
