Tradition Meets Contemporary!
One of Germany’s largest civic art
collections can be seen at the Museum
of Fine Arts: it encompasses paintings
from old masters as well as works by
Max Klinger and the well-known
“Leipzig School” – represented by
Werner Tübke, Wolfgang Mattheuer
and also the “New School” such as
Neo Rauch. You can also experience
spectacular art treasures at the
GRASSI Museum. The many galleries,
the F/Stop Photography Festival and
the tradition-rich Academy of Visual
Arts, which consistently generates
young talent, offer considerable room
for contemporary creation. And not to
be forgotten: the former cotton mill
Spinnerei in Plagwitz. Numerous gal -
leries as well as more than 100 artists
have settled here since the 1990’s.
With a bit of luck you will even personally
meet internationally celebrated
greats of the New Leipzig School such
as Neo Rauch or Tilo Baumgärtel.
