<strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong><br />

<strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong> is an executive vice president and a board member of <strong>Koch</strong><br />

Industries, Inc., which owns a diverse group of companies involved in refining,<br />

chemicals, grain processing and biofuels; forest and consumer products; fertilizers;<br />

polymers and fibers; process and pollution control equipment and technologies;<br />

electronic components; commodity trading; minerals; energy; ranching; glass; and<br />

investments. Based in Wichita, Kan., with estimated annual revenues as high as<br />

$115 billion, according to Forbes, <strong>Koch</strong> companies employ more than 100,000<br />

people worldwide, about 60,000 of those in the United States, and have a presence<br />

in about 60 countries. Since 2003, <strong>Koch</strong> companies have invested more than $70<br />

billion in acquisitions and other capital expenditures. From January 2009 to present,<br />

<strong>Koch</strong> companies have earned more than 1,000 awards for safety, environmental<br />

excellence, community stewardship, innovation, and customer service. Familiar <strong>Koch</strong> companies'<br />

brands include STAINMASTER ® carpet, LYCRA ® fiber, Quilted Northern ® tissue and the Dixie ® brand<br />

of cups, plates and cutlery.<br />

Mr. <strong>Koch</strong> is also chairman and chief executive officer of <strong>Koch</strong> Chemical Technology Group, LLC, a<br />

wholly owned subsidiary of <strong>Koch</strong> Industries. He has lead this group of companies since joining <strong>Koch</strong> in<br />

1970.<br />

<strong>Koch</strong> Chemical Technology Group serves municipalities, oil refineries and chemical plants around the<br />

globe with research and development, manufacturing, and sales of process and pollution control<br />

equipment. The group employs more than 5,000 people and includes these businesses:<br />

Before joining <strong>Koch</strong>, he was a research and process design engineer for Amicon Corporation and<br />

Arthur D. Little, Inc., both in Cambridge, Mass; and Halcon International Inc. and its affiliate, the<br />

Scientific Design Company in New York City.<br />

Mr. <strong>Koch</strong> received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts<br />

Institute of Technology.<br />

A long-time philanthropist, Mr. <strong>Koch</strong> has given generously to a variety of organizations and programs.<br />

In his lifetime, he and the <strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong> Charitable Foundation have pledged or contributed more than<br />

$1.2 billion to cancer research, medical centers, educational institutions, arts and cultural institutions,<br />

and to assist public policy organizations. Gifts of note include:<br />

$150 million to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to build a state-of-the-art outpatient<br />

medical facility. The donation is the largest single gift Memorial Sloan-Kettering has ever received<br />

and is the largest single gift Mr. <strong>Koch</strong> has ever given.<br />

$100 million to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital to help build the <strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong> Center, a new<br />

ambulatory care center plus $28 million to support other causes.<br />

$66.7 million to support cancer research at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.<br />

$10 million to Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at The Mount Sinai Medical Center to create the <strong>David</strong> H.<br />

and Julia <strong>Koch</strong> Research Program in Food Allergy Therapeutics.<br />

$185 million in total contributions to MIT, including $100 million as prime contributor for the <strong>David</strong> H.<br />

<strong>Koch</strong> Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, $20 million to help build a new childcare center, and<br />

contributions that supported the <strong>Koch</strong> Biology Building and the <strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong> School of Chemical<br />

Engineering Practice.<br />

$20 million to Johns Hopkins University for the <strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong> Cancer Research Center.<br />

$65 million to renovate the plaza at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York City.<br />

$100 million to the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center, now the <strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong> Theater.<br />

$26.5 million to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for the <strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong> Center for Applied Research<br />

of Genitourinary Cancers.<br />

$26.2 million to The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City for the 'Building on Success'<br />

campaign and other causes<br />

$35 million to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History to renovate the dinosaur hall<br />

and $15 million that created the <strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong> Hall of Human Origins.<br />

$20 million to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City establishing the<br />

<strong>David</strong> H. <strong>Koch</strong> Dinosaur Wing.<br />

In 2005, Mr. <strong>Koch</strong> received a presidential appointment to the National Cancer Advisory Board of the<br />

National Cancer Institute, serving until March 2010 when his term expired.<br />

Mr. <strong>Koch</strong> has received numerous awards including the 2013 Intrepid Salute Award from the Intrepid<br />

Sea, Air & Space Museum and the Humanitarian Award from the American Apparel & Footwear<br />

Association in 2011. He has been recognized by The New York Academy of Medicine for his support of<br />

biomedical research, healthcare and education (2004). His corporate leadership has been honored by:<br />

the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Double Helix award (2007), Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer<br />

Center's Excellence in Corporate Leadership award (2005) and the prestigious Corporate Citizenship<br />

Award from the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (2004). Other recognition includes<br />

the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Bronze Beaver Award (2008), Deerfield Medal of the<br />

Deerfield Academy (2003), Hospital for Special Surgery’s Philanthropy Award (2009), and Americans<br />

for Prosperity Foundation’s George Washington Award for Principled Leadership (2007).<br />

Mr. <strong>Koch</strong> serves on the boards of the Cato Institute, Reason Foundation and Americans for Prosperity<br />

Foundation, organizations focused on applying free market principles to enhance peace, prosperity and<br />

social progress.<br />
