The DESIGO system topology
The DESIGO system can be divided into two levels:
• Management level
• Automation level
The automation level forms the interface to the field level and includes room
automation as well. By virtue of distributed intelligence, each of these levels
operates both autonomously and in a network.
Primary DESIGO system components:
• DESIGO INSIGHT management station for
higher-level operation and monitoring,
graphics-based display of the process,
automatic alarm distribution and a wide
range of different data analysis options using
standardized protocols.
• DESIGO PX automation system for control
and for operation and monitoring of primary
plants. By use of PX-WEB, the automation
system can be operated via a Web client.
• DESIGO TX-I/O modules, which provide the
interface to the devices at the field level, the
sensors and actuators.
• DESIGO RX room automation system for
control of comfort conditions in individual
rooms, and for operation of lighting and
blinds.
• DESIGO OPEN for the integration of a
wide variety of plants and protocols at all
levels of the system.
• DESIGO S7 expands the DESIGO product
portfolio using SIMATIC S7 automation
stations for industrial and infrastructurerelated
applications through the consistent
use of BACnet/IP communications
DESIGO system topology
One of the key benefits of DESIGO is its scope for gradual expansion, from the
smallest systems to large, geographically distributed systems. Scalability is
illustrated using example topologies in the appendix.
