About Birstaverken
Established in 1961, Birstaverken AB is an engineering
company with its own hot-dip galvanizing plant. Our production
facilities and head offices are located in Sundsvall, Sweden.
We also have local sales offices in Arboga, Katrineholm and
Borås.
We develop, design, manufacture, assemble and sell road
and bridge rails, bridge bearings, expansion joints for road
bridges, stairs, module rails and pipe supports.
Our business concept is simple: “We will meet the Swedish
market’s need for fast and reliable deliveries and services, and
propose solutions in these product areas.”

Aesthetic design
The Birsta 2P guardrail is not just aesthetically pleasing, it
also boasts well thought out design, excellent safety features and
superior functionality. All this makes the Birsta 2P guardrail
the perfect choice wherever an aesthetically pleasing traffic
environment and good visibility is required, such as at road
junctions, along riverbanks and around cultural sites.
Flexibility and customization
Birsta 2P is produced in standard dimensions, but the flexible design of the system
allows optimal customization of the guardrail to meet the requirements and requests
of the customer.
Attachments you’ll get attached to
The brilliant design of Birsta 2P, with its closed profile and clever attachments,
makes guardrail assembly quick and simple. The attaching bolts for
the posts are pre-mounted at delivery, which significantly reduces assembly
time. The advantage of closed piping is that these guardrails can handle
collisions and snow clearance better than railings with open profiles.
Quality at a low price
Birsta 2P is constructed as a standard profile to keep costs low, with standard
six-metre sections to allow easy handling by only two people.

The rail has a diameter of 88.9 mm and is made of galvanized
high-grade steel, which gives it a stainless surface that is capable of
“self-repairing” minor damage.
The posts are 1.950 mm high and are easily erected in the ground
to bring the final height of the railing up to 705 mm.
Double-sided 2P DU
A new product has joined the Birsta ranks. The new Birsta 2P DU boasts double rails
along both sides of the posts. This railing has been designed for use where there is
traffic on both sides, e.g. in parking lots and as a centre divider on roads.

Different ends for different means
Birsta 2P is available with three different guardrail
end treatments:
Exit and entrance reinforcements, available in a long version
(12 m) and a short version (6 m).
Pedestrian and cycling path guardrails
In addition to the new Birsta GC (please see the Birsta GC brochure),
we are also pleased to continue to offer an old favourite, the Birsta 2P
GC. See the image above for a clear picture of how these pedestrian
and cycling path guardrails look! Birsta 2P GC is available with
vertical end treatments and with a closed entrance and exit design.
Hot-dip galvanizing

Type C end treatments.
No other surface treatment provides more long-lasting
rust protection at such a low cost as hot-dip galvanizing.
In typical urban environments, a hot-dip
galvanized surface has a maintenance-free service
life of more than 40 years. This is why Birsta uses
hot-dip galvanizing in the majority of its products.
There are many examples of steel structures that
are more than 60 years old and still enjoy good rust
protection thanks to the hot-dip galvanizing process.
Dipping the steel in melted zinc provides it with
excellent rust protection even in tight spaces and on
the inside of the pipes. Our galvanizing plant houses
a zinc melt measuring 8.2 x 1.2 m, with a depth of
2.2. m. Hot-dip galvanized products withstand mechanical
damage very well and are also capable of
“self-repairing” minor damage themselves through
a galvanic process. Considering the fact that some
6 billion Euros are “rusted away” every year in the
Swedish industrial sector, hot-dip galvanizing can
be a real cost-cutter!
