English summary: The Short-eared Owl is relatively recent að a breeding bird in lceland, though the first nest was reported að long ago að 1912. There is now an estimated population of 100-200 breeding pairs scattered throughout the lowland parts of the country. The Short-eared Owl is fully protected in lceland and any owls found dead must be handed over to the lcelandic Institute of Natural History.
