Creative work competition<br />

My Estonia<br />

The following is a selection of creative works by <strong>Estonian</strong>s depicting<br />

both important and memorable personal moments as well as a vision of<br />

<strong>Estonian</strong> life today and in the future.<br />

The competition entitled My Estonia invited <strong>Estonian</strong>s to<br />

take a creative approach to recording what is important<br />

to our people. The goal of the competition was to place<br />

greater value on Estonia as a living environment, to notice<br />

our wonderful compatriots, and to record good thoughts<br />

and memories in pictures.<br />

The topics for the competition fell into five different<br />

categories: Estonia is My Home; Moments I Would Like to<br />

Take with Me into the Future; My Family and My People;<br />

This Is Important to Me; My Estonia in 2018. Hundreds of<br />

authors participated, ranging from preschoolers to citizens<br />

of an advanced age. The panel received almost five<br />

hundred creative works for evaluation.<br />

The panel of judges included: Chairperson Marika<br />

Valk, artist Andres Tolts, journalist Pekka Erelt; Anu<br />

Purre, curator and methodologist at the Kumu Educational<br />

Centre; Maarja Nurm, member of the AIESEC<br />

Estonia management board; and Birgit Pihelgas, representative<br />

of the <strong>Estonian</strong> Association of Student Bodies.<br />

As the winner of the competition, the panel of judges<br />

unanimously chose Ann Kärner, an 8-year-old secondgrade<br />

student from Orissaare Upper Secondary School,<br />

whose work was entitled This is Important to Me: Ann<br />

Plays the Scale.<br />
