Y-Age was established <strong>in</strong> 2011<br />

and mentorship to youth<br />

entrepreneurs. Currently<br />

operat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Gauteng, Y-Age plans<br />

to expand <strong>in</strong>to a national<br />

organisation <strong>in</strong> 2012.<br />

SAMAF is a wholesale fund<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong>stitution that works through<br />

F<strong>in</strong>ancial Service <strong>Cooperatives</strong><br />

(FSCs) and Micro-F<strong>in</strong>ance<br />

Institutions (MFIs) to deliver<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ancial and non-f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />

services.<br />

The BBSDP <strong>of</strong>fers cost-shar<strong>in</strong>g<br />

grants to black-owned SMEs to<br />

<strong>in</strong>crease <strong>the</strong>ir competitiveness,<br />

susta<strong>in</strong>ability and job creation.<br />

Fund<strong>in</strong>g: A comb<strong>in</strong>ed grant/loan for<br />

entrepreneurs with an exist<strong>in</strong>g bus<strong>in</strong>ess or<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess idea<br />

Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g: Offer a series <strong>of</strong> courses on bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

management, market<strong>in</strong>g, bookkeep<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r skills<br />

Mentorship: Ongo<strong>in</strong>g mentorship for small<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>esses<br />

Micro-enterprise Loans: A comb<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>of</strong><br />

grants and loans to f<strong>in</strong>ance <strong>the</strong> start-up,<br />

growth and expansion <strong>of</strong> micro and small<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>esses with a total <strong>in</strong>come <strong>of</strong> not more<br />

than R3,500 per month<br />

SAMAF Fund: To enhance <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutional<br />

capacity <strong>of</strong> FSCs and MFIs through partial<br />

subsidization <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir operation costs and <strong>the</strong><br />

development <strong>of</strong> report<strong>in</strong>g systems, policies<br />

and procedures<br />

SAMAF Sav<strong>in</strong>gs Mobilization: Assists exist<strong>in</strong>g<br />

unregistered cooperatives, sav<strong>in</strong>gs groups and<br />

clubs to formally register and improve <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

overall capacity<br />

SAMAF Technical Support: Assists FSCs and<br />

MFIs with f<strong>in</strong>ancial management<br />

Provides grants <strong>of</strong> up to R1 million<br />

• Up to R800,000 for tools, mach<strong>in</strong>ery and<br />

equipment on a 50:50 cost-shar<strong>in</strong>g basis<br />

• Up to R200,000 for bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

development and tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g to improve<br />
