Welcome to Woodstock Park from The Club Secretary
Good evening everyone. Welcome to The
DMA Stadium.
Our visitors Dorking Wanderers. Welcome to
their players, Officials and Supporters and a
welcome also to this evenings match officials.
Dorking Wanderers are new to the league this
season having won promotion from The Sussex
County League. It was no surprise to us
that they got promotion and are doing very
well in The Ryman South as of course they
comprehensively beat us in the FA Cup last
season. Tom Tolfrey, who scored two goals
for The Wanderers in that match, is still at the
club and will probably be playing today They
currently lie one place above us in fourth position
and on the same points. Dorking Wanderers
lost their unbeaten record on Saturday
when Hastings United beat them 2-1 at home.
Well it's certainly been a successful time for
The Brickies recently. Saturday's win on Whytelefes
artificial pitch was the latest in a run of
only one defeat in eleven matches. There
have been nine wins in that run. Last Tuesday
saw us progress to the second Qualifying
Round of The Emirates FA Cup with a 1-0 replay
win over Ryman Premier Side Metropolitan
Police. I was unable to get to this match
and was probably as nervous as Nick in the
dug out whilst watching The Ryman on line
"Live Scores". It's a good job I did not know
that before Jono Richardson's 86th minute
winner Adam had to face (and save) a penalty.
I'm not sure what state I would have been
in! The reward for the win is a home tie on
Saturday against Spartan Midland League
side (Level 5) Hoddesdon Town. Of course
we should win but our record over the past
few seasons against lower league clubs is not
very good - just look at Dorking Wanderers
last season! One thing I do know is that Nick
and the boys will not take this important match
lightly. This, one of the most important matches
for us in recent times deserves a big attendance.
We really need your support. Conference
National teams enter the FA Cup at
the next stage. It would be fantastic for all of
us to draw one of those teams.
Because of the cup competitions there have
been many fixture changes. Our players face
two matches a week right into December.
Luckily Nick has got a squad together that has
strength in depth. On Saturday in the last
minutes of the match there were three members
of The Under 21 team playing. The Under
21's have really impressed me when I
have seen them play. Jack Steventon captains
them. They usually play home matches
on a Wednesday here. Season ticket holders
get in free whilst it is only £3.00 entry fee for
adults.
Finally, I would like to thank all of our supporters
who have always got behind the club win
or lose! Our support, especially away from
home, is second to none. I think that our supporters
realise the problems in running a football
club especially from a financial point of
view. It really makes me laugh when I see forum
posts (not our clubs) saying get a new
chairman and/ or committee when things are
not going well. What I will say is that Chairman
and even Committee members do not
"grow on trees. There is not a rich Arab waiting
in the wings to take over and put lots of
money in (ok, unless you are Ebbsfleet United).
I think that everybody associated with this
great club are as close now as they have
been for many years.
Enjoy the game.
John

Dorking Wanderers
A (not so) BRIEF HISTORY
The Early Years – Five Promotions And A
Ground Move!
Dorking Wanderers were founded as recently as
1999 and in a short space of time have begun to
steadily climb the non-league pyramid from park
football to the Sussex County League. The founder
members Marc White (the current chairman and
manager), Peter Buckland, Mark Lewington, Ian Davidson,
Lee Spickett and Penny Gregg brought the
club to life and entered the fledgling team into the
Crawley & District League for their inaugural season
as the deadline had passed to join the West Sussex
League. At this point the club was based at The Big
Field in the village of Brockham.
After only one season the club transferred to the
West Sussex League where in their first season
(2000/01) the Division Four championship was secured.
The reserves also won Division Five and
ever since this season the club has proudly run two
teams.
This progress was maintained when Wanderers finished
as runners-up in Division Three in 2001/02.
The reserves were also in the honours and lifted the
Dorking Charity Cup in 2002 – a feat they would
repeat in 2004 and 2006.
Wanderers steady climb continued in the 2003/04
season when the club finished as champions of the
West Sussex League Division Two. The reserves
complimented this by winning Division Four, the Division
Four Charity Cup, the Dorking Charity Cup
and finishing as runners-up in the Tony Kopp Cup.
The journey through the West Sussex League was
completed in 2005/06 when a third place finish was
enough to elevate the team into the Premier Division.
The reserves again were again not far behind
and finished the 2004/05 season as champions of
Division Three.
The most important season up to this time was in
2006/07 when Wanderers won the West Sussex
League Premier Division title and with it earned promotion
to the Sussex County League. The team
managed solely by Marc White clinched the title
with a 2-1 home victory on the final day of the season
at West Humble. A fine achievement in only
seven seasons. Wanderers also reached the fifth
round of the Surrey Intermediate Cup where the
team lost by the odd goal in seven to Epsom Eagles
Seniors.
With promotion, a distinct possibility an enormous
off the field effort enabled Wanderers to relocate
during the season to the otherwise derelict venue of
West Humble Playing Field in Dorking below the
quaint setting of Box Hill. Wanderers were able to
make West Humble home with the help of the club
founder members, many of the playing staff and local
volunteers not to mention kind local sponsors
who provided the funds to make this a reality.
The Sussex County League Years - Senior Status
Achieved
Wanderers made an immediate impact in the Sussex
County League Division Three finishing in an
impressive 4 th place with the thumping of future
champions Loxwood 4-1 at West Humble being the
highlight. The club could have finished in a promotion
spot, but could not maintain this level of performance
against runners-up Bexhill United and Haywards
Heath Town. West Humble, however, was
not yet ready for the step up and so it did not affect
the clubs fortunes.
The cups were where Wanderers shone brightest
this year and for the first time the team reached the
final of the Surrey Intermediate Cup where on the
hottest day in May on record they faced Epsom Eagles
Seniors. Unfortunately, the weather and a prematch
game of golf hindered the team who lost 0-2.
The second season in Division Three again saw
Wanderers challenge for a promotion spot and only
a late collapse in form saw this ambition ended.
The team again reached another cup final. This time
it was the Division Three Cup where despite a stunning
performance the team just could not score and
went down 0-2 to Haywards Heath Town. Ironically,
it was two future Wanderers Lois Freitas and Kevin
Cooper who did the damage for Town that day!
The Surrey Intermediate Cup offered little consolation
as the Wanderers’ nemesis Epsom Eagles Seniors
ended their hopes for the third season running.
Wanderers also reached the semi-final of the Mid
Sussex Charity Cup.
Wanderers achievements were beginning to be recognised
and five of the team were selected to play
for the Sussex County League’s representative side
against the Mid Sussex League and Kent League
respectively. The players in who were honoured
were alas Smith, Jones, Kevin Burgess. John
McBride and John Tyler. Smith also achieved a rare
feat and a Wanderers scoring record in a single
game by hitting a double hat –trick in the 9-1 victory
over Hurstpierpoint.
The
Chairman’s
Column
Well that certainly was a fantastic couple of weeks. Keep getting asked
why we are suddenly doing so well. Simple answer is for the first time
in my three years as chairman the team, committee and supporters are
on the same page! Most of that is down to the positive attitude of Nick
and his team management group.
The successful playing side is that Nick and the guys have added
some youth and ability to a team where he has managed to retain the
core of longer serving players. Got a few players now getting up to and
going past the 100 mark and I wil be on top of the moon when Hich
gets to 400 appearances and a 100 goals!
Two things we have to do for the rest of the season 1) Try keep our
feet on the ground 2) Wake up the rest of our town to come and watch
the team.
Welcome to Dorking tonight I hope it is a great game.
Then it's on to Saturday's home FA Cup tie easily the biggest game
since I have been involved.
Thank you all for your support! Long may it continue.
From the Programme editor
The fantastic FA Cup replay victory
over Ryman Premier outfit Metropolitan
Police made you proud
to be a Brickie. And it makes all
the hard work in running a club at
this level well worthwhile. The atmosphere
in the ground was fantastic
and it was good to talk to
some new supporters who either
hadn't seen us play before or have
returned after a long absence.
We are now all of course looking
eagerly forward to our Emirates
FA Cup 2nd Qualifying round at
home to a new club to Sittingbourne
(but not to me or John
the secretary), Hoddesdon Town,
more about that in the Hoddesdon
Town programme. I see that they
have almost filled a coach for the
game so lets hope for a bumper
crowd and another great atmosphere.
I have a fixture poster on
our web site for download so if anyone
can spend a little time in
taking the posters round then that
would be great. If you are unable
to download then please see me
(usually to be found in or near the
not so high tech communication
centre! (Shed).) Just to show
how important FA Cup and Trophy
wins are the gate, programme,
and golden goal sales just covered
the expenses of putting on the
match so you can see how decent
gates are a priority.
Just a word now about our excellent
groundsman Derek Wakeling.
We take it for granted that the
grass is cut and the lines painted
on, and that responsibility is down
to Derek. He also keeps the other
pitches in a good state as well. He
has to contend with rabbits who
love to burrow under the pitch
and also I noticed mole hills the
other day (not on the pitch!) The
officials at the Metropolitan Police
replay said how impressed they
were with the pitch so well done
Derek!
This will probably be our most difficult
game for some time so , as
usual, get behind the team!
PETER

Tuesday 8th September 2015,
Ryman League Div 1 South
Whitstable Town 0 Sittingbourne 5
att 156
We thought that the performance at Ramsgate
was good but this was even better as the
Brickies completed their first double of the season
and at the same time took their unbeaten
record to 5 wins in a row, the best sequence
for a long, long time, certainly since the web
site began in 1997. What is so impressive is
the scoring power throughout the team with
amazingly 11 different scorers so far, the latest
to add his name to the list was Miles Cornwell
who was rewarded for all his graft that he had
put in during previous matches without himself
finding the net.
The whole team performed as a unit with the
defence outstanding again, and this victory
was especially sweet for Jono Richardson who
was celebrating his birthday.
This looked to be a tricky fixture as local derbies
usually raise a team and to make this one
even more of a banana skin Whitstable had
just appointed a new manager in Simon Halsey
but that failed to enthuse the team who hardly
had a shot on target all game, and Halsey
must now urgently seek to find a solution to the
Oystermen’s bad form. The home team didn’t
make things any easier for themselves when
already 3 goals down Craig Thompson saw the
red mist and elbowed Brown and was sent off
by referee Graeme Ions. Thompson then refused
to go straight away and started berating
not only Sittingbourne players but his own
team as well!Manager Nick Davis started the
game and Ollie Bankole returned to the squad
on the bench. Davis seemed to be feeling his
hamstring at the end of the first half and made
way for Ollie Brown at half time.
Match Reports by
Peter Pitts
Smith with a cracking shot right in the corner of
the net.
This goal was the signal for Sittingbourne to
take complete command and they were carving
openings all over the place. There was
trouble for Whitstable from both sides of the
pitch with both Hicham Alhazzan, Fred Obasa,
and Stefan Wright causing constant problems,
and setting up numerous chances. Manager
Davis had a number of shots that went just
wide or just over, but all through this superiority
Whitstable had another good chance themselves
that fell to Kieron Campbell on the half
hour but his shot went hopelessly wide.
The second half was just 7 minutes old when
Cornwell popped up with a superb solo goal
when he ran down the right and gave Whitstable
keeper Adam Highstead no chance with a
well placed shot into the Oystermen’s net.
Cornwell nearly made it 3 when right in front of
goal he tried to make doubly sure of scoring by
putting his foot right through the ball when a
more gentle approach might have paid dividends
and instead of finding the net the ball
crashed against the upright. Cornwell then had
a hand in making the third goal when he found
Stefan Wright on the right whose hard low
cross into the area found the onrushing
Bankole who hit the ball first time into the net.
Whitstable’s heads had well and truly dropped
now and the sending off of Thompson meant
that the game was effectively over. It was all
Sittingbourne now and with a minute of normal
time to go Wright sent in another cross into the
Whitstable area and this time it was Akhazzan
who came rushing in and fired the ball into the
net for number 4, and just to add the cherry on
the cake Tom Brunt fired home from the edge
of the area with the ball taking a slight deflection
to complete the rout.
Whitstable started reasonably well and could
and probably should have taken the lead when
Charlie Smith was presented with a header
right in front of the Brickies goal but he skewed
the header well wide. Whitstable were to rue
this miss when the Brickies took the lead in the
18 th minute in a move started by Hicham
Akhazzan and beautifully finished off by Harry
Sittingbourne: Molloy, Brunt, Lee, Davis
(Brown 46 mins), Crimmen, Richardson,
Wright, Cornwell (Williams 73 mins), Smith,
Obasa (Bankole 64 mins), Akhazzan

Nick’s Notes
What a buzz around the place there is at the minute both on and off the field.
We have been on a fantastic run of late both in the league and to overcome a decent
Ryman Premier side in Met Police (In the FA Cup) with what was fantastic
support from our supporters and youth section, you really were the 12 th man and
this inspired us and gave us the momentum to see the job through.
Being on this great run has meant we have now got midweek matches all the
way through to the first week in December and so my small squad will be
stretched to the limit. This does however give opportunities to some of our youth
team lads and under 21s and with 6 first teamers missing on Saturday through
injury we were able to include three 17 year olds and with that our average age
was 22.
We now turn our attentions to Dorking who I feel will be competing for the title
this season. We are going to have to be at our very best to get something from
the game but we have turned Woodstock in to somewhat of a fortress recently
only losing once since January and so we will not make life easy for them.
We then have a FA cup game to look forward to at home to Hoddesdon.
Emirates FA Cup, 1st Qual Round
Metropolitan Police 0
Sittingbourne 0
Att 66
Sittingbourne extended their unbeaten
run to 6 games with this draw against
Ryman Premier side Metropolitan Police
in the first Qualifying round of the Emirates
FA Cup.
Jake Beecroft was still unavailable, Ollie
Bankole started the game with Miles
Cornwell named on the bench and Nick
Davis absented himself from the line up,
still suffering from a hamstring injury,
George Crimmen started but had to be
replaced by Jack Steventon at half time
after picking up an injury when he collided
with his own player.
Sittingbourne started brightly and had a
good chance in just the second minute
but Ollie Brown blasted the ball well
over. Sittingbourne then seemed to rest
on their laurels a bit and slowed the
game down which in some ways suited
the Police. However they more than
matched the higher league side in all departments,
except for perhaps the quality
of the crosses, the Police looking dangerous
from corners especially and on
more than one occasion the ball found
an unmarked Met player in the box who
then proceeded to make a hash of the
header and in the end Adam Molloy didn’t
have a save to make.
Hicham Akhazzan was Sittingbourne’s
most creative player. He had a free kick
arch into the keepers arms on 11
minutes , and latched onto a long throw
on the half hour but again fired over.
Just after this came Sittingbourne’s best
chance of the game so far when the ball
was threaded through to Harry Smith
who got his shot in only to see goalkeeper
Alex Kokakis make a diving save. It
was the Met though who came the closest
to breaking the deadlock in the first
half when right at the end of the half the
ball was crossed low and hard into the
Sittingbourne area, and the onrushing
Jon Nurse just missed getting a toe to it.
This scenario was repeated on 53
minutes but this time it was Joe Turner
who just failed to connect.
Sittingbourne though always looked capable
of causing an upset and on 75
minutes Conrad Lee set up a great
chance for Tom Brunt but the Brickies
captain fired over.
The game was petering out for a draw
but Sittingbourne, just as they had in
most of the matches in their 5 match unbeaten
run coming into this game, were
finishing strongly and with 4 minutes to
go substitute Miles Cornwell produced
the best shot of the game that seemed
to be heading for the net before Kokakis
pulled off a tremendous save and tipped
the ball over the bar. Then came the
second best shot of the game this time
Harry Smith hit a shot that had goal written
all over it but again Kokakis pulled
off a spectacular save, this time diving to
tip the ball round a post. The last act of
the game was for Smith to head the ball
wide from the resulting corner. So Sittingbourne
go into the hat for the next
round and this game showed that they
have every chance of getting through in
the replay!
Sittingbourne: Molloy, Brunt, Lee, Richardson,
Crimmen (Steventon 46 mins),
Brown, Wright, Bankole (Cornwell 77
mins), Smith, Obasa (Williams 59 mins),
Akhazzan

Dorking Wanderers
A (not so) BRIEF HISTORY CONT
In their first season Wanderers faced a real relegation battle, but were fortunate enough to survive. The
club improved during the 2013/14 season and Marc White laid the foundations for the successful promotion
campaign of 2014/15 which saw the club gain a place in Ryman League Division One South following
a thrilling championship battle with eventual champions Littlehampton Town which went to the final
day of the season.
The 2009/10 season was one of development off the field. A slow start to the campaign meant the team
had too much to do despite an impressive run of form either side of Christmas, but 4 th place was still
achieved. There was also to be no cup final as Wanderers lost 0-2 to Bosham at Wick in the Division
Three Cup semi-final. Despite this, the momentum was maintained at committee level and plans were
made to develop the changing rooms, improve the hard standing areas for the supporters, catering and
refreshment facilities. All the hard work of everyone at Dorking Wanderers eventually was rewarded during
the 2010/11 season as the team cruised to the Division Three championship finishing 16 points clear
of second placed Hurstpierpoint and scoring 93 goals in the process. To crown a fantastic season Chris
Williams finished as the divisions top scorer with 28 goals.
The season also heralded the introduction of Dave Smith as Hon. Club Secretary who in addition to stabilising
the club’s core administration is also at the helm of looking after the club infrastructure. Dave has
already introduced additional much needed Committee Members to the club in Frank Burgess and John
who are now key members of the Team.
The early part of 2011 saw a great deal of work on the ground completed in order for promotion to be
achieved including an entire home changing block being constructed whilst a physio room and a place to
entertain visiting officials were added. The club also extended the concrete walkways and erected a
fence to enclose the ground. The club are indebted to Jeremy Pain and Dave Smith who pioneered the
whole project for the ground.
With Senior status now achieved Wanderers look to a bright future and entrance next season into the
F.A. Vase. Wanderers plan to erect floodlighs during the course of the season and to develop the ground
further in the hope of further progression. The club finished third in its debut season (2011/12) in Division
Two and following an eventful summer were promoted to the top flight of the Sussex County League
following an F.A. Appeal. Wanderers had other reasons to be happy as the club reached the Surrey
Premier Cup final at the first attempt, whilst being knocked out of the Division Two Cup by Littlehampton
Town at the semi-final stage.
Our core business is to provide cost management services
to the construction industry. Our client base includes
subcontractors, contractors, corporates, private
businesses and public sector organisations. We adopt
industry accepted approaches to cost management/
procurement. We apply these diligently and conscientiously
to each project.
Our staff regularly undertake CPD training and university
studies in order to keep abreast of developments
in the industry. In addition to our collective experience
and expertise, Our software systems enable us to deliver
efficient services to our clients. We are also currently
looking at ways in which we can further benefit
our clients using Building Information Model [BIM].
Many of QS Consults’ clients are already involved in the construction industry with
our services complementing their own. By way of example with public sector clients
we can prepare cost studies (including market testing) to enable them to make
more informed decisions regarding proposed projects and estates strategies.
On the other hand for contractors and sub-contractor’s we provide estimating and
tendering services allowing them to focus on their core business of delivering construction
projects. Just some of our projects are shown below:
Some clients we work with may have never been involved in construction before
and may be considering a one-off construction project. As quantity surveyors we
can provide guidance on managing costs and how to minimise costs risks associated
with construction projects. Some clients we work with may have never been involved
WELLING UNITED striker Sahr Kabba could end up winning you a few bob in the future if you’re a
regular at pub quizzes.
The foolish forward became the first player to be charged by the Football Association for 'allegedly
exaggerating or feigning an injury which directly led to an opponent being dismissed'.
Diving, simulation, cheating. Whatever you want to call it, it’s the latest epidemic to invade our game
and it has slowly started making more of an impact over the last decade.
While it has mostly been reserved for the top level and the overpaid mercenaries in the Premier
League, it has started to trickle down. Much faster than the Premier League’s billions have, that’s for
sure!
Of course we all like to think our grass-roots game is immune and sacrosanct but this unfortunate incident
has proved it isn’t.
Going down in the fashion Kabba did was risky to begin with but knowing the game was being shown
live on BT Sport? That’s tantamount to sporting suicide.
Ritchie Sutton’s ‘elbow’ was neither dangerous nor enough to send a grown man flying to the floor
holding their face. Especially seeing as it was nearer his chest.
Tranmere Rovers fans have rightly had their say on social media. You can’t say for certain they
would have held onto their 1-0 lead if Sutton had rightly remained on the pitch.
But you can definitely say it can’t have helped. It gave Welling impetus and those two points could
end up being vital come the end of the season.
Justice has been done - well as much as it can - with Kabba receiving a three-match ban and a fine
of £250 after Sutton's red was rescinded.
Under the FA’s new policy 'If the dismissed player is successful in overturning his sending-off and it is
clear that the opposing player had not, for example, been struck as implied/claimed or at all, then a
disciplinary charge may follow'.
Wembley chiefs get a lot of stick, and some is definitely warranted, but hats off to them for trying to
stamp down on Kabba’s kind of acting that is more suited to the stage than the football pitch. It will be
interesting to see, however, how long it will take for a Premier League player to receive the same
charge.
When reading the initial news I also had to spare a thought for referees. Yes, referee Craig Hicks
was obviously wrong in sending Sutton off. Assistant Ian Parsons had even advised him about the
‘elbow’.
Officiating is not an easy job and with the amount of cameras seemingly fixated on every game up
and down the country, it’s become easier than ever to lament poor decisions. But players trying to
fool them only makes their jobs harder.
Reputations are quickly made, though, and who will Kabba and the Wings have to blame if referees
are a little less willing to point to the spot in the future with the Tranmere incident so widely talked
about?
It’s a shame for the talented Kabba, who has now become a quiz question answer. But it’s also a
great shame for the young and energetic Wings - who continue to pluck talented players out of nowhere
- and 19-year-old captain Sam Corne.
His stunning equaliser was good enough to feature at the very top of the game - and that’s the sort of
thing we should be talking about.
