3.2 Citation Rates for the Countries Studied over Time<br />

The graphs that follow show the citation rates of each country in each discipline over time. This<br />

allows us to determine shifts in the perception of individual countries that may have occurred<br />

during the ten-year period under review. The further back the date of publication of an article is,<br />

the better its chances are of being perceived, in other words of being cited. Citation rates for<br />

more current articles are generally much lower than those for older publications.<br />
