For specific experiments of course also neutrons of deviating velocities within a band<br />

around the average are employed, however far from that the available number density<br />

resp . the flux drops strongly. Typical neutron velocities are in the order of 1000 m/s<br />

the corresponding time-of-flight per meter is 1 ms/m, i .e . such neutrons need a couple of<br />

milliseconds for their journey through a spectrometer .<br />
