NHS Board <strong>2010</strong>-11 2011-12 2012-13<br />

• If, in the opinion of the Consultant Physician,<br />

the patient may benefit, they are provided with<br />

an insulin pump.<br />

• Approximately 150 patients per year received<br />

DAFNE.<br />

• Further 30 patients on pump as part of HTA<br />

research trial<br />

• Insulin pumps made available according to<br />

clinical need<br />

• Approximately 150 patients per year received<br />

DAFNE.<br />

• No restriction on funding of pumps, which are<br />

provided if Consultant Physician considers patient may<br />

benefit.<br />

• 10 adult patients with insulin pumps (1.25%) of the<br />

800 adults with type 1 diabetes.<br />

• 4 children with pumps out of the 57 children with type<br />

1 diabetes (7.0%).<br />

• 35 additional pumps being funded through Health<br />

Technology Assessment RCT comparing structured<br />

education with pumps in promoting glycaemic control.<br />

Would take total to 5.72%.<br />

• Approximately 150 patients per year received DAFNE.<br />

NHS Dumfries and<br />

Galloway<br />

• Possible further expansion will be considered as<br />

2012-13 budgets are set.<br />

• Possible further expansion will be considered as<br />

2011-12 budgets are set.<br />

NHS Fife • 57 adult and 13 paediatric patients (4.4%) on pump<br />

therapy.<br />

• Possible further expansion being considered in setting<br />

<strong>2010</strong>-11 budget.<br />

• Patient pathway ensures patient seen by appropriate<br />

members of the multi-disciplinary team on 1:1 basis,<br />

then followed up at dedicated clinic for pump users.<br />

Education programme in place.<br />

• 4 additional children and young people to<br />

receive insulin pump service.<br />

• Further expansion in service provision will be<br />

linked to the anticipated efficiencies released<br />

from the National Procurement of blood<br />

glucose monitors and strips.<br />

• Final numbers will depend on demand and<br />

compliance with local guideline.<br />

• Current plans dependent upon NHS financial<br />

settlements.<br />

• 4 additional children and young people to<br />

Procurement of blood glucose monitors and strips.<br />

• Final numbers will depend on demand and compliance<br />

with local guideline.<br />

• Current plans dependent upon NHS financial<br />

settlements.
