Items sent by e‐mail or on floppy disk or CD are of great help; other‐ wise please type, or write, on one side of your paper. EDITORIAL I hope you enjoy Volume 45 of Summer Times. Recent appeals for maga‐ zine contributions have borne fruit, and, with the valued assistance pro‐ vided by our regular con‐ tributors, this edition contains the ‘normal’ maximum 64 pages ‐ the size being governed by postal costs. However, we do need many more contribu‐ tions for future issues, from as many mem‐ bers, and over as wide a range of topics as possible. Please send these direct to me (my details are on page 2) but please do not expect an acknowledgement unless you particularly 3 ask for one. The vast majority of contributions appear in the magazine in one form or another – but not necessarily in the following edition. Each issue of Summer Times takes some weeks to prepare to the final print—ready standard, so acknowledgments do not always get the priority they perhaps deserve. Contributions should be submitted, preferably by e‐mail or on floppy disk, but alternatively typed, or hand written – but, if the latter, legi‐ bly please! E‐mailed or floppy disk submissions can eas‐ ily be ‘pasted’ straight into the magazine – all that is then required is to amend the font, size, and format and spacing, and to prepare any photographs. Typed submissions need scan‐ ning, then converting to a text format which can be edited and amended to the style of the magazine. Lastly, hand‐written submissions need completely retyping. All design and type setting is done in‐house to save the additional hefty charges that would arise were this to be left to our printer. These guidelines are not intended to discour‐ age hand‐written submissions and some of our best content arrives that way. However, if you have alternatives at your disposal, or you can ’borrow’ your children’s or grandchil‐ dren’s computer, please consider trying out the electronic means of transfer. If you have‐ n’t, don’t be put off from submitting your handwritten contribution. My appeal for contributions is but half of the equation. You will see elsewhere in the magazine that your committee appeals for funds to enable us to continue to produce two editions of Summer Times each year. We also need funds, but on a smaller scale, to continue to publish the Old Scarborians’ web site which attracts acclaim from far and wide, and which now, inciden‐ tally, attracts more new members than are gained by ’normal’ postal application. Remember, virtually all our income comes from one‐off life subscriptions of only £10.
