I have been looking at the
photos for the 2003 Lon‐
don function. Unknown 4
is a photo of myself so one
mystery is solved. I re‐
ceived Summer Times ‐
once again a great read
and very informative.
Shattered to read of the
death of Alan Elliott, we sat next to each other
at a recent London Event and renewed our
acquaintance after many years. Alan and I
attended Westborough Methodist Church
together and played for the School at Rugby, it
was a great shock to read of his death, I know
that he will be sadly missed by everyone who
knew him.

I was interested in Ken Gouldingʹs note (page
15 Volume 44) as I taught at Enfield College of
Technology which became part of Middlesex
Polytechnic and is now Middlesex University.

I retired around 1985 as Head of Department
of Social Science. Odd that two Old Scabs had
a role in developing this very successful new
University.

I did rashly promise you a
further contribution to Sum‐
mer Times, but the literary
muse deserted me before
Christmas!
I am not sure whether it has
returned, but, whilst the
attachment is not exactly JK
Rowling, it may pass with a push if you are
short of material, though I defer to your edito‐
rial judgement.
Having read “Eats, Shoots and Leaves” at
Christmas, which in itself probably makes me
a rather sad person, I have apprehensively
checked the grammar and punctuation ‐ but
any mistakes I can blame on Deirdre who pre‐
pared and sent it!

been awarded a
Ph.D in Environ‐
mental Sciences by
the University of the
West of England in
Bristol.
He carried out the
research into Particles and Air Pollution as a
Post Graduate on a part time basis over the
past 6 years while working full time in his
normal employment.
