learning objectives
- To discuss how to handle different equipment for tumour
ablation in the liver
- To know the predictive factors of success and failure of liver
ablation and other ablation techniques, in order to be able
to define best indication
- To know the main reported complications of liver tumour
ablation and the basics for the prevention and treatment of
such complications
- By the end of the workshops the participants should have a
good understanding of a range of ablation techniques in the
liver and be aware of tips and tricks for proper clinical
application
Hands-on Workshops
Varicose veins
Coordinators: C.A. Binkert (Winterthur/CH),
K.D. McBride (Dunfermline/UK)
Endovenous thermal ablation of varicose veins is well suited
for interventional radiologists to perform. IRs have all
the necessary skills to provide good care for patients with
varicose veins: patient evaluation, diagnostic duplex ultrasound,
venous access under ultrasound guidance and
catheter-based intervention.
Unfortunately, many IRs are not yet familiar with the relevant
devices. This Hands-on Workshop gives an opportunity to gain
familiarity with the currently available ablation devices including
the handling of different fibres and probes and the corresponding
generators. Participants will learn how to use these
devices so that they can get started with a venous ablation
practice.
learning objectives
- To learn about the two main methods for endovenous
ablation: laser and radiofrequency
- To get familiar with the set-up needed to perform
endovenous ablation
- To get practical experience with different devices
