Hudson Yards represents history in the making. Since 2001,
the City of New York, the Metropolitan Transportation
Authority, and the State of New York have collaborated on
extraordinary planning initiatives to create a development
program that will transform the Hudson Yards area into
a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly, transit-oriented mixed-use
district. The new Hudson Yards district will accommodate
a major and vital expansion of the Midtown central business
district, as well as job growth and new housing for the
City’s growing population.
Additionally, in January 2005, the New York City Council
approved a comprehensive rezoning of the Hudson Yards
that will transform this area into a vibrant, medium to high
density extension of the Midtown business district with
residential, cultural, hotel, and retail uses and substantial
new open space and parkland.
The rezoning allows for:
• 24 million square feet of new office space
• 13,500 new housing units, including almost 4,000 affordable
units
• 1 million square feet of new retail space
• 2 million square feet of new hotels, including a new
“although it’s a
large scale
project, we
are bringing
hudson yards
down to the
human scale.
it’s not just
about erecting
buildings, it’s
about creating a
neighborhood.”
headquarters hotel for the Javits Convention Center
Further, in December 2009, the New York City Council
approved a comprehensive rezoning of the Western Rail
Yard that will transform this open air railroad storage yard
into a vibrant, transit-oriented, mixed-use development
with approximately 5,000 apartments, office, hotel, retail,
cultural and community facility, and parking uses, and 5.45
acres of public open space
Ana, herself, is responsible for the management of Tower
C, which will rise 950 feet comprised of 50 stories. The
first building to go up in Hudson Yards, Ana relishes the
ability to build an entire neighborhood over a storage yard
platform, similar to Park Avenue,” she says. Going 30 feet
down into the site, construction will begin in April, 2012,
with a target completion of June, 2015. Tower C will also
include 1.7 million rentable square feet, 29-passenger elevators,
amenity floors at 18’ slab-to-slab and 14’ ceiling height,
45’ lease span core to skin, and a curtain wall with Low
E high performance glazing. The tower is also targeting
LEED Gold certification. “You have to have a class A team
to make this all work, and we do,” Ana says.
