Bottom trawling is a common fishing activity in coastal waters of SE Asia, including Hong<br />

Kong. Many studies showed that bottom trawling can modify sediment characteristics and<br />

benthic communities. This study attempted to investigate the impacts of bottom trawling on<br />

benthic environment and meiofaunal communities, particularly marine nematodes. Field<br />

sampling was conducted from April 2006 to January 2007 at one trawled and one nontrawled<br />

sites in subtropical waters, Hong Kong. Sediment parameters including total organic<br />

carbon (TOC), total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), total phosphorus (TP), water content and<br />

silt/clay fraction were also analyzed. Results showed that levels of TOC and TKN were<br />
