Canisius’ 16 Division<br />
I athletic programs in<br />
addition to all areas of<br />
student-athlete welfare. She supervises compliance,<br />
academic counseling, strength and<br />
conditioning and athletic training. She also<br />
oversees the CHAMPS/Life Skills program,<br />
and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee<br />
(SAAC).<br />
Murphy is the sport supervisor for women’s<br />
soccer, men’s soccer, women’s cross country,<br />
men’s cross country, softball and golf. She<br />
serves on MAAC committees for Athletic<br />
Administration, Finance, Gender and Minority<br />
Issues, and chairs the MAAC Swimming and<br />
Diving Committe. She also organizes the<br />
annual National Girls and Women in Sports<br />
Day (NGWSD) at Canisius and helped found<br />
the WNY Girls in Sports Program. The program,<br />
in collaboration with the City of Buffalo<br />
Public Schools, area colleges and universities,<br />
the Bills and Girl Scout Council, focuses specifically<br />
on young girls (ages 9-12) and their<br />
involvement in sports.<br />
Murphy began her career in 1992 as<br />
associate head athletic trainer at St Mary’s<br />
and moved to ULM in 1998. She added the<br />
responsibility of senior woman administrator<br />
in 2001 which involved the monitoring of<br />
women’s sports and mentoring the SAAC.<br />
In July 2003, she was promoted to the<br />
position of director of academics, compliance<br />
and student-athlete services. Murphy worked<br />
to develop and implement an enhanced academic<br />
development and compliance program<br />
for ULM’s student-athletes and the athletics<br />
department. Prior to ULM, Murphy served<br />
five years as the head athletic trainer at St.<br />
Mary’s College of Maryland.<br />
She is a 1989 graduate of West Chester<br />
University with a bachelor’s degree in health<br />
and physical education. In 1992, she earned a<br />
master’s degree in health education from the<br />
University of Arkansas.<br />
The Maryland native and her husband,<br />
Pat, have two children, Sean (6) and Sarah<br />
(2).<br />

John Maddock<br />
is in his 27th year with<br />
Canisius College athletics<br />
and his 11th as associate<br />
athletic director for<br />
external affairs. Originally<br />
hired as the Golden<br />
Griffins’ sports information<br />
director, the native<br />
of Washington, Ill., was<br />
named an assistant athletic<br />
director prior to the<br />
1987-88 season and moved<br />
into his current position in<br />
1997. Maddock is responsible<br />
for corporate partnerships,<br />
marketing and<br />
promotions, licensing, the Blue & Gold Club<br />
and ticket sales.<br />
The 52-year-old Maddock oversaw the<br />
operation of the department of athletics during<br />
Spring 2005 before Bill Maher was named<br />
the director of athletics. Maddock also assisted<br />
the MAAC with plans for its 25th Anniversary<br />
celebration during the 2005-06 athletic season.<br />
He chaired the search committee for<br />
the Griffs’ head football coach in 2000 and<br />
men’s soccer coach in 1998. He serves on the<br />
Hall of Fame and the MLK Awards Selection<br />
Committees and oversaw the development of<br />
the athletic department’s current logo. He was<br />
also instrumental in planning the season-long<br />
100-year anniversary celebration for men’s basketball<br />
in 2003-04.<br />
Maddock arrived at Canisius in July 1981<br />
after spending two-and-a-half years as the<br />
administrative assistant to the athletic director<br />
at Brockport State College. Prior to his job at<br />
Brockport, he was the ticket manager for the<br />
Atlanta Braves Triple-A farm club in Richmond,<br />
Va.<br />
A graduate of Western Illinois University,<br />
Maddock received his bachelor’s degree in<br />
recreation and park administration in 1976<br />
and his master’s degree in athletic administration<br />
in 1978. In addition to his duties at<br />
Canisius, Maddock is an active member of the<br />
National Association of Collegiate Marketing<br />
Administrators (NACMA) and the former chair<br />
of the College Sports Information Directors of<br />
America (CoSIDA) Committee on Committees.<br />
He also served on the CoSIDA Academic All-<br />
America Committee.<br />
Maddock spent two seasons as the public<br />
relations director for the North Atlantic<br />
Conference and served as the host for the 1990<br />
ECAC-SIDA conference at the Buffalo Hilton.<br />
He chaired the Baseball Committee for the 1993<br />
World University Games and was the assistant<br />
media coordinator for the 2000 NCAA Division<br />
I men’s basketball opening round games played<br />
at Buffalo’s HSBC Arena.<br />
Maddock was honored in 1998 by ECAC-<br />
SIDA with the Irving T. Marsh Award for contributions,<br />
dedication and excellence in the field<br />
of collegiate sports information.<br />
John and his wife, Priscilla, reside in Snyder<br />
with their daughters Mackenzie and Mikaela.<br />
