• Canisius College emphasizes developing its student-athletes academically and socially as well as athletically. • Golden Griffin student-athletes have access to a computer lab moderated by a full-time academic counselor in the Koessler Athletic Center. Student-athletes also have the ability to check out lap top computers to use when traveling to competitions. • Canisius student-athletes graduate from the college at a rate five percent higher than the general undergraduate student population. • The women’s basketball team and the volleyball team received NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program public recognition awards for 2006-07. The public recognition awards are presented to the best academically performing teams that rank in the top 10 percent within their sport in the NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR). Both programs scored a perfect score of 1,000. • Since 1980, 14 Canisius student-athletes have collected 23 CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. • Six former student-athletes – Tom Schott (football), Colleen Sandor (softball), Diane Nowak (tennis), Anthony Zitnik (lacrosse), Josh Zavitz (hockey) and Jamee Paoloemilio (synchronized swimming) – have received NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships for their tremendous work in the classroom and on the field of play. • Basketball player Kevin Thompson served a two-year term on the prestigious NCAA Student Advisory Committee. Aimee Claypool (volleyball) represented Canisius at the 2001 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference, Rachelle Held (women’s lacrosse and soccer) earned the honor in 2002, Mark Persick (ice hockey) attended in 2003, Rob Krajewski (golf) represented the school in 2004 as did Katie Scanlon (synchro swimming) in 2005 and Kiel Illg (men’s lacrosse in 2006). Most recently, ice hockey goaltender Bryce Luker represented the school at the annual summer conference. • Six Griffs have been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Scholar Athletes of the Year for their respective sport, and 68 studentathletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Honor Roll in 2006- 07.
