F a c t s h e e t Land Use Plan 2010 The Brisbane Port Land Use Plan (the “LUP”) is a key planning document used to guide the location of new development on core port land. This fact sheet highlights the purpose and key aspects of the LUP. Background key features In late 2010, the Queensland Government privatised the Port of Brisbane as part of the ‘Renewing Queensland’ plan. As part of that process, the Port of Brisbane’s regulatory planning framework changed via amendments to the Transport Infrastructure Act,1994. All development on core port land is now guided by the new LUP which took effect upon the sale of the port. The LUP uses a precinct-based approach to port planning to ensure developments are: appropriately sited; in the best position to capitalise on port infrastructure and assets; considerate of adjoining land uses and sensitive areas surrounding the port precinct. Provides strategic framework for the management and assessment of development on port land. Identifies preferred land use outcomes. Illustrates preferred land uses on LUP maps. Includes a ‘strategic plan’ identifying critical port infrastructure and trade projections. Is a statutory document approved by the Queensland Treasurer. May be amended regularly with a full review occurring at least once every ten years. The new LUP will guide the location of new development on port land. December 2010 | Page 1 of 2
