THE GCRMN IN THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN<br />

Two GCRMN nodes have been established in <strong>the</strong> Eastern Caribbean. One is<br />

coordinated by <strong>the</strong> Caribbean Natural Resources Institute with support from <strong>the</strong><br />

Regional Coordinating Unit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Caribbean Environment Programme <strong>of</strong> UNEP, and<br />

covers <strong>the</strong> OECS states, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados. During <strong>the</strong> first year,<br />

activities have included an assessment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> capacity for reef monitoring in 8<br />

countries, a regional workshop in St. Lucia on recent developments in monitoring<br />

methods, a series <strong>of</strong> national training activities and technical assistance focusing on <strong>the</strong><br />
