Catechism Students received Rice Bowls in class!
What is the CRS Rice Bowl program? It is a Lenten
formation program which helps us live in solidarity with the
poor and vulnerable around the world. We pray to reflect
on how God is calling us to live. We fast to remove the
things that get between us and God, and to remember those
who go without. We give to help those in need.
How do we participate? There are many great ideas on the
large handout that comes folded in your Rice Bowl. Pray to
strengthen our relationship with God during this season of
Lent. Share a meatless meal from the recipes from around
the world (solidarity and fasting). Place money in your Rice
Bowl to bring food, water, and medicine to those in need
(almsgiving).
When do we return the Rice Bowl? On April 7th and 8th.
Please return them to the teacher of your catechism class.
Do we return the Rice Bowl or just the money?
It’s easiest of you return the full rice bowl. If your Rice
Bowl gets worn, either tape it together or place the whole
thing in a Ziploc bag.
Stop and Think.
Have you ever stopped to think about relationship? My family and I moved to Las Vegas at
the beginning of my 6th grade year. I was entering middle school in a new city, was going to
have to ride the bus for the first time, and this was the first time I did not have a sibling
going to the same school as me. I felt a little lost and alone. I remember walking home
from the bus drop off after school. Another boy who was walking home behind me caught
up to me and started to talk to me. I was not (am not) very skilled with conversation, but he
persisted. His name was Henry and he lived a couple houses down from me. He invited
me over to play, and the next day I took up his offer. We quickly became best friends. If it
wasn’t for Henry’s invitation to me I would have missed out on a relationship that made a
difference in my life. In this week’s readings God sends his invitation to Abram and to
Jesus’ disciples. To Abram, who already had a growing relationship with God, he invited
him into a deeper covenantal relationship. To the disciples God invited them to faith and
witness to the life of Jesus: “Listen to him”. God is always inviting us deeper into
relationship, but sometimes we are so stuck in our normal routines that we miss the invite
and the opportunity to grow in that faith. Maybe it was a passed invitation to go to youth
group, or a mention of a bible study that caught our interests but we didn't follow through
with it. Or perhaps during this Lenten season it is the obvious one. We all think “I should
pray more”, but often that desire to pray more is all we commit to. The desire is God’s
invitation to us. Commit to something simple, perhaps if you are just starting regular daily
prayer maybe you can commit to beginning each day with a simple prayer to say thank you
to God for the opportunity of a new day. Perhaps at the end of the day you can review your
day with God, where you triumphed and where you failed, then ask for his help for the next
day to come. Whatever you do if you commit to you then you will be transformed by a
relationship like no other.
as soon as they become engaged because at least six months is
ordinarily necessary to fulfill marriage preparation
requirements. At least one party must be a registered,
participating member of the parish. The first step is for both
parties to attend the Marriage Information Meeting on the fourth
Thursday of most months at 6:30 p.m. Next meeting: Thursday,
Feb. 28th at 6:30 p.m. After that meeting, contact Debbie for an
appointment with one of the priests or deacon.
Important: Those with prior marriages, religious or civil, must
make an appointment with a priest prior to attending the Marriage
Information Meeting to determine freedom to marry. (This
requirement does not apply to those who are widowed.)
♦ Anointing of the Sick: The priest will often be able to anoint you
after Mass (except Saturdays after the 7:45 a.m. & 4:00 p.m.
Masses). Please call the parish if you need to receive the
anointing of the sick at home. In emergency situations when the
office is closed, the answering service will relay the information
to one of the priests. In case of hospitalization, let the hospital
staff know that you would like to have the Catholic priest
chaplain see you.
♦ Holy Communion to the Sick: If you are at home, please call the
parish office and an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion
will visit you. In case of hospitalization, inform the hospital staff
that you are a Catholic and would like to receive Holy
Communion.
♦ Mass Intentions: Mass requests are scheduled through the parish
office during office hours up to 11 months in advance.
♦ Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: Adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament is celebrated on the first Friday of the month following
Benediction at 6:30 p.m.
♦ Funerals: In the event of the death of a loved one, please contact
