Welcome to the Autumn and Winter 

2012 edition of our activity guide. We 

hope you find it useful. In this edition 

we would like to introduce some more 

members of Hastings and St Leonards 

Children’s Centres team. 

Hello, our names are Mary Allsopp 

and Lynne Roberts. We are the Early 

Years Teachers for Hastings and St. 

Leonards Children’s Centres. It’s our 

role to support your child’s 

development and learning across the 

foundation stage in settings, groups, 

crèches and in their transition to 

school. 

This year has seen the launch of 

Language Checkers. These checkers are completed by yourself and the group 

leader to find out how your child is developing with their communication 

skills. You will then receive helpful leaflets with ideas for things you can do at 

home. Every 6 months, you will be invited to do another Language Checker to 

ensure that your child is on track with their communication skills. Please ask 

for a Language Checker next time you attend one of the Children’s Centre 

groups.

Sign Time 

Our Sign Time courses are led by The Family Outreach 

Service and are a fun and easy way to learn to use 

baby sign with your baby. Together you will learn 

Makaton baby signs while having fun practising them 

in songs, games and activities! 

Why Sign? Signing while speaking has been shown to 

encourage the development of communication and 

language. It can help reduce your child’s frustrations 

and help you to understand your baby’s needs and 

wants. Signing gives your child an extra visual clue to 

help their understanding. 

Our courses run bi-monthly and consist of 4 

weekly sessions. They are held at various venues 

across the town for babies 6 months-1 year.

FSN Robsack Community Learning runs the 

Community Parents Scheme with accredited 

Community Participation courses at the Robsack 

Centre. 

We are looking for volunteers to take part in an 18 

week Level 2 City & Guilds training course which 

will lead to volunteers carrying out home visits to 

local families with children under 5. This course is 

open to all parents who have an interest in working 

with children and families. 

The course runs once a week term time only from 

9.30-2.00pm, crèche spaces, lunch provided and 

expenses reimbursed. This is a fantastic opportunity 

and if you are interested please contact us for an 

application.
