Welcome.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Year 7 students.
It has been a delight to see them settling so quickly into the life of
the school.
We also welcome two new members of staff to the Maths and
Science Departments. Mr. Osborne (Maths) and Ms Qadir
(Physics). In addition, we have made some changes to our pastoral
and SEN provision. Mrs. Dolphin is now the school’s designated
SENDCO and she is replaced as Progress Leader for Year 7 by Ms
King. We wish everyone success for the coming year.
GCSE results
Yet again, our students celebrated some excellent results with over
94% of them achieving 5 or more GCSEs at C grade or higher. In
addition, many other subjects achieved a high degree of success
and the progress measures for both English and Mathematics
continue to be high for the authority.
Thank you
Dr Quipp and Mr. Price-Uden ran a very successful Summer School
aimed at developing the literacy and confidence of some of our new
Year 7 students. It was wonderful to see so many involved and
enjoying such a positive experience.
Miss Heald and Ms Alderson’s gardening club also enjoyed success
at the RHS show at Tatton where their vegetable basket was
awarded first prize. Miss Weston arrived back safely from her
Outlook Expedition trip to Romania where a number of Year 12
students were involved in trekking and village community projects.
This was the culmination of two years of hard work and
commitment, which hopefully has provided our students with a
number of employability skills.
The end of term also saw a number of activities aimed at providing
our students with a range of skills. This culminated in a Year 9
camp at Linnet Clough run by Mr. Price-Uden. I hope this was a
fitting end to our students’ Key Stage 3 studies and we look forward
to all Year 9 students participating next year.
PTA
You may have noticed via our website and the posters in school
that the school PTA are in the process of organising a sponsored
walk on Sunday 20 th September. Over the years, the work of

Cycling Gold
On a number of occasions now I have
written about the success of Leanne Hall
in Year 11. Over the summer break,
Leanne won gold in the team track skills
challenge as part of the North West
Track Cycling team.
Water Polo Success
Congratulations to Annie and Maisy
Clapperton who competed for the
England U17 women’s water polo team
at the EU Nations Cup. They completed
their campaign in style on Sunday with a
sensational 12-4 (4-0, 2-1, 4-2, 2-1)
victory over Ireland. The commanding
win secured England a fifth place finish
at the prestigious three-day tournament
which was held in Prague.

the PTA has resulted in contributions to the refurbishment of the
Library and additional resources for Technology and ICT. All the
monies raised go towards improving the facilities for the benefit of
every child in the school. If you feel that you can support the PTA
sponsored walk, more details are available via the website. In
addition, the PTA are also appreciative of additional help and the
next PTA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 23 rd September in
the School Library. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Absence
Over the course of the summer holiday and before the end of term
I had a number of requests for absence. Can I please remind you
that any request must be submitted at least a month in advance. I
can no longer authorise holidays and any request must be due to
exceptional circumstances. Parents who take their children out of
school without written permission may be subject to penalty fines.
Parking on Granby Road
Thank you to parents and carers who responded to my request
regarding parking near the school gates and about being respectful
to residents and their access - it has been greatly appreciated.
Sadly some continue to park by mounting the pavements forcing
students to walk on the road or ignoring the double yellow lines.
This is compromising the safety of all our students and I once again
respectfully ask that parents and carers are understanding of this.

A Level Success
Students recorded another excellent set
of results with a 98% pass aret and over
95% of students progressing on to their
chosen degree course, staff, students
and parents of Stretford Grammar
School really did have cause for
celebration. The majority of grades
achieved were at B grade or higher
meaning that students left Stretford
grammar School with grades A*/A and B
and 80% were at C or above – a great
achievement which provided the
foundations for entry to the top Russell
Group Universities. There were excellent
performances individually with Humza
Butt (3). Joe Violet (3), Charlotte
Greenwood (4), Muzafar Naib Khill (3)
Zoran Ristic (3) Ebai Nsoatabae (3),
Fahkra Sheikh (3) and Leah Spiedel
Johnson (5) all achieving A*/A grades in
their examinations.
