Honoring Tradition -
Moving Forward
What a summer for Osman Shrine. Lots
of great activities for everyone and the weather
cooperated quite a bit.
First a short recap. The Friday night gettogether
before the Gala went very well and
was our first chance to show
off the newly cleaned-up
barn. The Gala was a great
success. Family and friends
abounded. Many were
asking about the couple on
the floor that were dancing
most of the night. That
would be my brother Ed and
my sister in law Mary. Their
pastime is ballroom dancing.
Mary dances competitively
and my brother isn’t too
shabby. We would like to
thank every one that came
and especially those in
costume. We would be
remiss if we didn’t thank all
the past Potentates and their
Ladies that attended.
The following week we
held our annual Picnic, this
time at the Barn as well.
Many enjoyed being at the
Barn for the first time and
could see all of the “parade”
equipment. The choices of food were
magnificent. I couldn’t decide which dish to
sample. The plates seemed kind of small. The
dunk tank was a big hit and the DJ added
that extra touch.
Midwest followed the next week and we
had about 115 Nobles and Ladies, a very nice
turnout. Thank you to my able bodied rowers

for the Float the Pote event.
They did their best to ward off
the other Pote’s and their
rowers. Welcome to all the new
Camel Herders. It appears we
have a few chemistry majors that
were able to diminish the effects of
the Camel. Others were not so
fortunate. Congratulations to
the Cycles Corps, the Mighty
Mites and the Alex 4 wheelers
for their awards at the
Midwest Motor Corps
Competition. The Cycle
Patrol won first place for their
division in the competition as
well winning awards in the
obstacle course. We had
Osman Clowns compete and
they won a second and a third
place trophy.
All of the above events
could not have been
accomplished were it not for
the time and talent of the
Aides. And we have a great
crew of Aides. In particular,
Chief Aide Rich Johnson and
Lady Linda, Assistant Chief
Aide Jerry Payne and Lady
Nancy, Assistant Chief Aides
Mike Werth and Tom Schultz.
Joan and I thank you and all
the Aides for your work
during this summer. Many Nobles don’t
know what it takes or see all the prep that goes
into a successful function at Osman. The
Aides are truly the Craftsmen in the quarry.
Now on to the fall.

being graciously hosted by Garnet
Lodge in White Bear Lake. The
Master and Secretary, being of Noble
Birth, along with Gary Winter, our
Chief of Staff, are making arrangements
for what I expect to be a great event. It
is great to be able to go to the local
lodges and bring together Minnesota
Masonry and the Shrine. The message from
the Grand Master Brian Beermann, and one
strongly supported by the Shrine in the Twin
Cites, is that we need to work together to
build our future.
With that in mind I would like to remind
all the Nobles about our Hufli dinner in
October. Like our very successful night at the
Saints Game orchestrated by Anders Haugen,
the Hufli is an opportunity to show others our
camaraderie and fun while supporting the
World’s Greatest Philanthropy.
The last part of this month’s message is
devoted to a much larger joint event to be
held December 8. Grand Master Brian along
with Zuhrah Potentate Tony Krall and I will
be hosting a full day devoted to Masonry and
the Shrine. The morning will witness a Third
Degree the likes of which has never been
experienced in Minnesota. The afternoon will
showcase the Shrine in all its splendor. The
evening will be an All Masonic Holiday Party.
Watch the Osman for more details. Letters
will be going out to Lodges informing them
of the activities and we are asking that each of
you be an ambassador to your Lodge and keep
them aware of the event and how they can
participate.
We are coming in to the home stretch of
the year and we are looking for a great finish.
