Dear Auxiliary Members and Friends of the Auxiliary, It has been great to see so many of you at the many Shrine events this past month: the Potentate’s Gala, Family Masonic / Shrine Picnic, MSA, parades etc. Illustrious Sir Frank and Lady Joan’s Gala was well attended and lots of fun. Many people came in costume which added a flare to the evening. You may have seen the news article that KARE 11-TV recently ran regarding a young boy in the Twin Cities who had been helped by Shriners Hospital for Children- Twin Cities (see page 10). This young boy has the same congenital defect that Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius has. Mendota Heights, MN 55118 Stephanie Norte (daughter of Captain of the Guard Larry Norte), Amanda Troester and Brooke Salfer worked on a project for FCCLA (Family, Careers, Communities, and Leaders of America) at Pine Island school. Their project was to increase the awareness of Shriners Hospital for Children, Twin Cities in their community, and to raise funds to donate to the Womens Auxiliary to be used for the wheelchair fund. We want to say thank you to these girls and their instructor for choosing this project and contributing to our cause. those of Oscar Pistorius. It is so wonderful to hear about the amazing work done by our Hospital. We are so fortunate to have a Shrine Hospital in the Twin Cities. Thank you to everyone who continues to collect pop tabs for the auxiliary. The office was overflowing with pop tabs which were taken out to the Auxiliary office this week. Thank you for collecting the tabs. We have three great Auxiliary events coming up these next three months. The first event is scheduled for Saturday, September 22, 2012. This will be the High Tea Luncheon at the Lake Elmo Inn at 11:30 AM, with guest speaker, Carol Schuelke, Director of the Radiology Department at Shriners Hospital for Children – Twin Cities. It is always so interesting to hear about the new things they are doing at the Hospital. An added attraction again this year is that the “What Not Boutique” across the street from the Lake Elmo Inn will be open for our shopping pleasure following the luncheon. Anyone attending the luncheon will get a 15% discount on all of your purchases at the Boutique. Hats are welcomed at the High Tea Luncheon. If you have a hat, new or old, feel free to wear it; however, hats are not required. The next event will be on Saturday, October 27, at 11:30 AM at the Osman Event Center. This will be a Luncheon with guest speaker Eleanor Ostman, who is a food writer for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The last event for 2012 will be on Saturday, November 17. This will be our Holiday event, “Christmas at the Swedish Institute” with a luncheon and tour. The Swedish Institute will be all decorated for the holidays for this event, and they have a great gift shop where you can start your holiday shopping if you wish. Potentate’s Lady Joan Spevak HAPPY TRAVELS! We had a marvelous time enjoying the fellowship/parades/dinners and meetings with our Shrine friends in Charlotte, NC. Our Imperial Lady Jan Madsen’s fundraising project this year is "Planting A Seed." She has created a beautiful flower pin that will help support our Shriner's International Research Team. Did you know our researchers developed the product that is now labeled "Ensure?” The formula was created to help our patients with their nutritional needs. Now, it helps everyone. Just one of the "little" things the Shrine does to help others. If you would like information on the fundraiser, please contact me. So glad everyone had a great time “At The Movies.” We were blessed to have guests from all over the country including Potentates from El Riad, Kem, Khartum, Zor and Zuhrah. We received many comments from non Shrine folks who want to learn more about how much fun we have! There were innovative costumes, delicious food offerings, lots of dancing and prizes! Thank you to our daughters, Kate and Mari, for pulling together the unique table decorations and all who helped make it a very memorable event. This year’s Osman/Masonic Family Picnic was the first to be held at our "Barn." The DJ was great! He helped everyone get up and move to the "Shrine Shuffle," provided music for the games for the children and young at heart, and set a jumpin' background for "Dunk The Divan." I "accidentally" pushed the dunk tank button when Frank was sitting on the board. OOPS! Down he went! We raffled off the lanterns I donated from the Party-Lite Party held in the early Spring. Arlene Thordson and Andrea Sandstrom took home the lanterns. With the "Dunk The Divan" and Lantern Raffle, we earned over $300 for the Transportation and Aid Fund. Thank you to all who made it such a great day! Kem Shrine in Grand Forks, ND, hosted the Midwest Shrine Association this year. We drove up on our cycle, which I have dubbed our "Summer Cabin." Five Imperial Officers and their Ladies attended. The weather was fantastic. Oasis was always open, staffed by great Nobles and their ladies. Super Thanks to all who made it possible. Competitions were fierce. I attended the Motor Corp Breakfast on Saturday with Frank. Osman brought home many awards which makes all of us proud! The next weekend brought, you guessed it, more parades! Thank you to all who attended the Newport Lodge Pancake Breakfast before the St. Paul Park Parade. Then it was off to Kenyon on our "Summer Cabin." The ride was quite quick, parade short and Oasis a blast! Thank you to PP Frank Peterson and his Lady Bev for hosting and making everyone feel welcome. It is wonderful when we can all go out and support each other to keep our organizations hearty. My Mom, Joan, and son Frank rode with us up to Pine City to share hospitality with East Central Shrine Club. Being "City Kids" it is not often we get to spend a day by a lake and picnic. Baked Ham, ooberdelicious cheesy potatoes, lots of salads, appetizers and homemade deserts were the fare. We invited all to share in the upcoming events and answered questions about what was happening in Osmanland. Sadly, we have to say "see you soon" to Gene Dunne from our Directors Staff. He is retiring to sunny California. Road trip anyone? He was honored by his fellow Shriners and their Ladies at a scrumptious dinner where he was presented a masterpiece of art created by Kent Swedberg of a Minnesota Viking head. There were over four different woods used to create the piece. Maybe Kent can be cajoled into making one for OSMAN PROVOST GUARD you! The Membership Committee is really doing a marvelous job of hosting events. We attended the St. Paul Saints tailgate and game in August. Lots of new faces we may see again at the Ceremonial being conducted at Garnet Lodge, in White Bear on October 20th. There will be a dinner to follow. Ladies are always welcome. September will bring more travel to El Riad's Pote's Country Jamboree and the last Temple Parade in River Falls with Zor. We so very much enjoy visiting other Shrine Centers and learning about their efforts to support our great philanthropy. There are a few remaining ties and pins available for our Transportation and Aide Fundraising effort this year. Consider giving one to a friend for a gift. You will make them happy and know you are helping others too. If there is an event you would like us to attend, please contact us. We are very much looking forward to a wonderful Fall and Holiday Season. We will try to keep the "Summer Cabin" open/running as long as possible. Thank you to all who have made our travels so very rich with memories, there are lots more to come!
