When Dave Kemmerly takes a
break on Mondays and Tuesdays,
you can again hear the beautiful
singing and guitar work of Donny
Ziegelbein in the Hyatt Lobby bar.
Donny is occasionally joined by various
friends of his that add different
textures to his already very interesting
show.
The Lobby shows at the Park
Hyatt begin at 3:30pm. and run
until 6pm, and will continue
through the end of the season. As
with the McCoy’s shows, when the
weather warms up, it is not uncommon
for the Hyatt Lobby entertainers
to move out back, mountainside
for their shows.
Splendido at Beaver Creek
One of the consistently excellent
live music and dining experiences
in our valley’s entire history is
Splendido at The Chateau in Beaver
Creek. Chef David Walford is
always coming up with wonderful
new ideas for the most discerning
gastronomes and also does a phenomenal
job with all of the aspects
of his restaurant. The live music at
Splendido is in the same class as the
culinarians at Splendido. Bob
Finnie, a Vail and Aspen favorite
since the late 80s, tinkles the ivories
at Splendido Sunday through
Wednesday evenings. Bob starts
performing around 7pm. On
Tuesday evenings, Bob is joined by
the incomparable Beth Swearingen.
Beth has been wowing audiences on
Broadway (and all the other major
stages of the world) since she was
just a wee lass!
In the late 1980s, Beth decided
to make our valley her permanent
home. The chemistry between Bob
and Beth is something that you will
not soon, or

Other longtime favorite entertainers
Peter Vavra and Pat Hamilton perform
at Splendido on Thursday
through Saturday evenings. Peter
Vavra is one of the most sensitive
pianists I have ever had the pleasure
to listen to. Pat Hamilton is a
wonderful Guitarist and an even
better vocalist. The blend between
these two extraordinary talents is
something that audiences will
appreciate very much. The contrast
in styles between Bob Finnie and
Beth Swearingen;
and Peter Vavra and
Pat Hamilton make
these talented entertainers
the perfect fit

Grouse Mtn. Grill
at Beaver Creek
Across Scott Hill
road from Splendido
lies the fabulous Pines Lodge and
the even more fabulous Grouse
Mountain Grill. I am not even sure
how many seasons Tony Gulizia
has been at The Grouse Mountain
Grill but it has to be nearing twenty!
Tony Gulizia, (Tony G. to his
friends and fans) is a national treasure.
Now that James Brown is gone,
I am pretty sure that Tony Gulizia is
the hardest working man in show
business, or that he is certainly tied
for first place with another colleague
of mine! Tony has an unbelievable
talent for making music
swing. There is an unmistakable joy
and energy that comes through
when Tony plays and sings. Our
school system also benefits from
Tony’s talents and kindness with
the “Jazz goes to school” program.
Along with his brother Joey and
an ensemble of other outrageously
talented people, Tony has spent the
last two decades giving selfless of
his time to Eagle County children
and fostering in these lucky kids the
same joy and understanding of
music that Tony and his brother
possess. Way to go guys and
thanks!!! Tony performs at The

The Vista at Arrowhead
One of the greatest restaurants
in our valley ( I will let Simone
Fodde tell you how good that they
are in her column!) is Vista at
Arrowhead. Now we can hear one
of our greatest Pianists at one of our
greatest restaurants!! In August,
after a 35 year run at The Lodge at
Vail, pianist extraordinaire Mickey
Poage relocated to Vista restaurant.
Along with being a world class
Pianist, Mickey has a wonderful
way of making his audiences feel
right at home. When I sit and listen
to Mickey I could be right in his living
room, or my living room and I
have heard hundreds of people
echo this sentiment over the years.
