Having watched
“Waiting for Superman," I
have a great deal to say about
American public school education,
but it will go against
everything those educated in
public schools after 1980
have been taught. I am a
product of public schools
beginning in the 1960s, and
ending in the early 1980s.
The root cause of the educational
implosion of today
was not addressed in Waiting
for "Superman."
I can separate it into two
different areas. Our country,
political correctness and educators
are one area, and the
other half of the equation is
students, parents and our
society.
I’ll begin by stepping
away from the money,
bureaucracy and unions that
“Waiting for Superman'
addresses. They are a byproduct,
created in response
to the core issues. In fact,
they are a desperate afterthought,
trying to correct
what has and is going wrong.
The more interventions we
impose - the worse it
becomes.

“Waiting for Superman"
addressed that in depth.
Our country has steadily
slipped down in actual education
standards and continues
downward today. So we
need to look at why. What has
changed in the United States
of America?
America has always had
poverty, always had workers
and always had immigrants -
those are not new. It is the
numbers, the tolerance, the
indifference and lack of our
values that have changed.
Waiting for "Superman"
moves right on by this however,
focusing only on costs,
bureaucracy and the resultant
education fallout, calling the
end result 'drop-out factories'
and 'academic sinkholes'.
What changed first is the
national immigration policies
of the United States, affecting
our school population by
overwhelming numbers seen
today. The origin of demographic
change began in
earnest in 1965, then in 1986
and leading up to now,
today's reality. In fact,
Waiting for "Superman"
could address failed immigration
policies and public
school fallout as going handin-hand,
but it didn't.

have to do with Aspen?
Absolutely nothing,
unless owning a store in
more than one town qualifies
a television producer to blatantly
lie to the television
audience and wrongly tell
them that Ms. Denson’s
ranch was just outside Aspen
when, in fact, it’s just outside
of the Town of Eagle.
Aspen is now
in Eagle County???
And, did we forget to
mention that the fabricating
television producers had the
narrator state that Aspen is in
Eagle County? That’s news
to most of us that actually
live in Eagle County.
So, what did television
actor Charlie Sheen have to
do with this trial?
Nothing, but apparently
the television producer
thought that mentioning
Sheen and Aspen together
might make viewers return
from the commercial breaks
to learn more about Ms.
Denson’s fight to avoid a
wrongful murder charge,
after shooting and killing her
former boyfriend, Gerald
“Cody” Body, in self-defense.
Silly me - the publisher
of this newspaper, for actually
believing that a television
producer actually cared
about the truth of this somewhat
Shakespearian tragedy!

Let’s start at the beginning.
Denson loved Cody
Boyd and gave him just
about anything he asked for.
Boyd repaid Denson by dating
her store manager,
Monica “Monique”
Seebacher. Denson gave up
on Boyd. However, Boyd
never gave up on Denson - at
least her money, that is.
So, Boyd, who had
already accepted such gifts
as a Harley, a Corvette, a
Semi-Truck, etc., now needed
$30,000.00 worth of teeth
work from local dentist Fred
I forget his last name!
Boyd said he didn’t have
that kinda of cash, but
offered to trade a Harley for
teeth work. Dentist Fred said
no thank you. Boyd said, no
problem, he’ll get the cash
from Kathy Denson.
So, Boyd left Dentist
Fred’s office, high on cocaine,
and drove to Denson’s Eagle
Ranch. Upon arrival, according
to trial testimony, Boyd
threatened Denson’s son’s
life, warning her to get out
her black dress to attend her
son’s funeral if Denson didn’t
give Boyd $300,000.00.
Denson couldn’t, so
Boyd came at her in a rage
and Denson picked up a
black powder pistol and
shot Boyd in self-defense,
clearly covered by
Colorado’s Make My Day
law.
Denson called 9-1-1 and
told the dispatcher that she
had shot Boyd and that he
did not deserve to die.
After sheriff’s videotaped
interviews with
Seebacher, the District
Attorney’s office wrongly
decided to try Denson for
murder.
Never mind that Dentist
Fred testified “if you ever
wanted a guy to play a role
in a scary movie, Cody Boyd
is your man,” or words to
that effect.
Never mind that Cody
Boyd’s mother testifies that
she had heard her son threaten
Kathy Denson’s life.
Never mind that Boyd
had numerous legal guns
that he had made illegal.
Never mind that Boyd
had claimed to be a Mafia hit
man.

grades, because it hurts our
students egos to see they
failed. It comes as no surprise
that “Waiting for
Superman" showed the
American students ranking
themselves as having the
world’s highest standing in
math, despite the fact that
they rank last in mathematics.
It is their egos speaking,
which have moved beyond
healthy.
Sadly, it appears we have
raised and semi-educated a
spoiled, self-centered generation,
and they are raising
the next generation of selfimportant
student children.
They possess a much higher
self-worth than their actual
value is. We have told them
that they alone are winners,
no matter how poorly they
do in school.
We cannot educate such
thinkers, for they already
know it all, and they know
they are right all the time, so
what's to learn?
Reality check: we all fail -
that's how one excels, by
making mistakes! But, as we
do not teach that, it is little
wonder our teen suicides
and escape through drug
and alcohol abuse is so high.
On the rare occasion they are
told they have done it wrong
- they fall apart.
When I was in grade
school children were paddled
by the principal if they
misbehaved. The result was
that very few children misbehaved.
We had classrooms
of 20-plus students, but we
learned, because we sat, listened
and did our work.
School children receiving
free or reduced lunch 30
years ago was not the norm,
and no big dea' as it is today.
It was actually a statement
that their parents failed them
in some fashion. Notice I did
not say society failed them - I
said their parents failed
them.
In American society
today, just as one mom said
in “Waiting for Superman,"
when she had not paid her
child's tuition, why punish
her daughter by not allowing
her to attend a school event?
Why make her daughter
miss out?
This mom blamed
everyone but herself, while
the reality is, she is to blame.
It was she, not society, not

schools, who didn't pay her
bill. By withholding a fun
school event from that child,
the school just taught that
child a valuable lesson of life
- you get out what you put in
and when you don't do your
part, you lose out.
That is exactly what ails
American schools - but
“Waiting for Superman" did
not address that.

If schools want to be successful
and educate, as in
teach, as in learn, then focus
on math and reading, period.
If one is very proficient in
math, one will find science,
technology and music comes
easy. If one can read, one can
self-educate and history, arts,
music will come easy.
We try to teach dual language.
We try to teach science
and history long before our
students are proficient in
math, spelling and reading -
big mistake, and one from
which we are seeing poor
results today. It reminds me
of whole language phonics -
one huge mistake with no
'Do-overs.'
Do not focus on buildings,
art, physical ed, or
music. They are not important
in core school education.
But we, in our PC thinking of
the Happy Hippie Era of the
late 1960s, feel entitled to
before working for. The trouble
with that is, we aren't
entitled. One must earn ones
rewards.
Back in the successful
public school days, if we
made a bad choice in school,
we were held after school as
punishment. That meant you
missed swimming lessons,
music lessons, field trips, Girl
Scouts, whatever came next
when school let out, and it
was tough-toasties, too. There
was no sympathy or accommodations
made. It was
PUNISHMENT!
This documentary did
not address the even larger
number of parents who
expect the schools and society
to do it all for them. These
parents and students feel
entitled to it all and do not
value anything if it requires
any effort on their part. I love
my children, but I am not
their friend, I am not their
peer. I am their best adult
advocate and their toughest
teacher as well. That is my
role, for I am the adult parent.
Where is the accountability
- ones personal responsibility?
All the unions, administrations
and Federal interventions
combined will not
address that - and yet that is a
large part of the root cause of
failing American education.
Why do you suppose
“Waiting for Superman”
glossed right over that?
Our public schools also
do the following and it is far
from successful. They put the
top achievers in with the bottom
non-achievers, to give
the low-performers good
examples to follow. T h e
reality is this these lowachievers
entire goal is to get
the high achievers down to
their level. The 'why' is simple
- "Misery loves Miserable
company."
Where are the underachievers’
parents? What
responsibility do they have?
To conclude, for whatever
good intention but bad outcome
reason, many of our
schools and our parents feel
obligated to supply children
with everything their hearts
desire. Nothing is earned - it
is bestowed. The result is that
there no value attached to
anything.
The above is what
“Waiting for Superman" did
not cover. Yet, that is the origins
of the issues that
Superman did cover in depth.
We cannot correct what
ails us until we go back to the
cause of it. It is a shame
“Waiting for Superman"
skipped right over that.

ID channel loses credibility with innocent Denson trial remake!

jurors told the Business
Briefs publisher that they
were extremely upset with
the District Attorney’s office
for wasting 9 days of their
life at a trial of Denson that
was clearly self-defense.
Publisher is upset with
Jupiter Entertainment producers
for Oxygen Show
After being interviewed
for the Oxygen Channel 30-
minute program, the
Business Briefs publisher
was very upset that the
Jupiter producers failed to
mention how upset the
jurors were with the District
Attorney’s office. So, when
Jupiter called the publisher
about being interviewed for
a 60-minute remake for the
Investigation Discovery
Channel, the publisher told
the producer that, “you
don’t have enough money to
pay me to do another show
if you won’t include how
upset the jurors were with
the District Attorney’s office.
So, the Jupiter producer
promised that they would
include that in the new
show. He lied!
Not only did they not
include it, but when the publisher
was given all of 24
hours notice to see the show,
the email said that the show
was titled “Sins and Secrets:
Aspen.”
So, the publisher fired
off the following email to the
producers:
“This program you are
alleging I participated in
has nothing to do with
Kathy Denson, except the
fact that she owned a store
in Aspen, which is in Pitkin
County, Colorado. Kathy
lives in Eagle County,
Colorado. Kathy's story
involving her trial took
place at the courthouse in
Eagle, Colorado, which is in
Eagle County, Colorado and
in Vail, Colorado, not
Aspen, Colorado. Your website
says this story is as follows:
Aspen, Colorado, Air
Date: March 24th Aspen,
Colorado. A ritzy mountain
hideaway where celebrities
and socialites mingle on the
slopes and party like there's
no tomorrow. But when a
lover's quarrel involving a
handsome cowboy and one
of the town's wealthiest residents
takes a deadly turn,
Aspen had to put the party
on hold. The subsequent
investigation into the crime
would expose Aspen's dark
side — and reveal a sordid
story of sex, drugs, and
murder. There was no
"lover's quarrel" with Kathy
Denson. Her relationship
with Cody Boyd was clearly
over and Boyd was in
another relationship with
Monica "Monique"
Seebacher. The website
says "investigation into the
crime." There was no crime
committed by Ms. Denson!
She was acquitted under
Colorado's Make My Day
law, which allows a legal
right to self-defense. The
website says "reveal a story
of sex, drugs, and murder."
There was no murder. There
was an act of self-defense.
Surely, the story that is airing
on Thursday, March
24th is not the story of
Kathy Denson, is it? If so, I
am very disappointed at the
very misleading website
advertisement. In my view,
if the TV show that airs
tomorrow night is about
Kathy Denson, then Ms.
Denson would have every
right to be very upset with
Investigation Discovery's
portrait of her on your website.
Please get back to me
with a clarification regarding
this as soon as possible.
Thank you.”
To this day, I have never
heard from the producers,
nor do I really want to. I
don’t like dealing with liars.
It doesn’t help anyone’s reputation.
The publisher kept
assuring Kathy Denson that
since the producers video
taped him for about 3 hours,
and since they committed to
telling the truth about the
jurors being upset with the
prosecutors, that this 60
minute television show
should clear her name.
Unfortunately, it took
almost all of the 60 minutes
for the producers to say that
the physical evidence helped
prove Kathy’s innocence.
But, by then, throughout the
entire show, the program
was less than flattering.
The publisher will never
again believe any “Crime
TV” program. After seeing
how producers fail to keep
their promises and invent
Aspen stories to supposedly
try to help improve their ratings,
I will only watch them
for whatever non-factual
entertainment value there is.
In my view, Jupiter
Entertainment owes Kathy
Denson a huge apology. I
doubt she will ever get it.
Kathy Denson is the
epitome of any of us defending
ourselves from threats of
harm by bad guys. If the
shoe was on the other foot,
no matter what one thinks of
someone, we are all entitled
to self-defense and the right
to pursue a peaceful life.
Kathy Denson has tried
to put her life back together.
I believe that Monique
Seebacher is trying to do that
as well. But enough is
enough, and Jupiter
Entertainment should be
ashamed of themselves.
I had offered to work
with them again on another
high-profile trial, but, now, I
ABSOLUTELY GUARAN-
TEE THAT THEY DO NOT
HAVE ENOUGH MONEY
TO INTEREST ME.
