The United Nations and African Union Mission in Darfur (<strong>UN</strong>AMID) is seeking qualified<br />

candidates for the following position:<br />

Under the supervision of the Section Chief or his/her designate, the incumbent will be<br />

responsible for, but not limited to, the following functions:<br />

• Responsible for a wide range of duties related to the unit assigned, such as Pass & ID<br />

Unit, Tracking Unit, Investigations Unit, Policy and Plans Unit and Field Operations.<br />

• Supervise national security staff in the respective Unit under his/her commands.<br />

• Requisite, collect and distribute the office supplies for the smooth functioning as per<br />

the Unit’s need.<br />

• Ensure all incoming and outgoing correspondences from the respective Unit are<br />

logged and filed accordingly.<br />

• Assist in liaison duties as applicable with the local police, military, local<br />

administration etc.<br />

• Maintain updated list of all equipments in the section assigned as applicable.<br />

• Assist in training of national security guards.<br />

• Act as in-house translator for the respective Unit.<br />

• Prepare and monitors the Units leave for national staff.<br />

• Provide inputs for the performance evaluation of the shift supervisors, and security<br />

guards.<br />

• Serve as designated time and attendance reporting focal point for the Unit.<br />

• Maintain liaison with other units/sections to ensure smooth working relationship.<br />

• Ensure all equipment assigned to the Unit is serviceable and functioning effectively.<br />

• Act as focal point for the purchase of any specialized equipment requested by the<br />

respective unit.<br />

• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.<br />

Qualifications and Experience:<br />

• Academic Background: Completion of high school education. Training in selfdefense<br />

and security techniques. Training in management/business administration,<br />

technical and communications skills is an asset.<br />

• Relevant working experience: A minimum of 4 years working experience with a<br />

Police or Military Service. <strong>UN</strong> or International NGO security experience is an asset.<br />

• Necessary skills: Must be physically and mentally fit and willingness to work extra<br />

hours. A high sense of confidentially is required. Possess the ability to prepare and<br />

submit reports as required by the Unit.<br />

• Language: Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English; and Fluency in<br />

Arabic. Knowledge of other languages spoken in the region applied is an asset.<br />

Competencies:<br />

• Professionalism – Good knowledge of security issues specially in building security<br />

and access control. Knowledge of <strong>UN</strong> procedures on access control and other<br />

security procedures is an asset.<br />

• Managing – Ability to manage, supervise, coach and develop a team.<br />

• Teamwork –Ability to facilitate teamwork for the benefit of the organization with<br />

very good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and to maintain effective<br />

partnerships in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment.<br />

• Client Orientation - Courteous and tactful with the ability to work with people of<br />

different backgrounds and respect for diversity.<br />

• Planning and Organization: - Ability to prioritize activities, monitor and adjust<br />

plans to meet changing requirements and uses time effectively.<br />

• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing,<br />

ability to provide information clearly both orally and in writing.<br />

• Technology Awareness – Possess required skills in the use of computers<br />

programmes (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Power Point) and knowledge in the use of fax<br />

machine, digital scanner, etc.<br />
