2009 Phonathon Review<br />
Last winter more than 50 energetic and articulate <strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> students gathered in<br />
the basement of the Hahn Building to serve as ambassadors of the <strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>State</strong> Foundation and<br />
Alumni office. Accepting the challenge to contact more than 24,000 WSC alumni and friends to<br />
update addresses, raise unrestricted support for the college’s priorities and to share information<br />
about the campus, these students were busy.<br />
This ambitious calling program is maintained with the leadership of four student managers<br />
and foundation and alumni staff. The students gathered nightly from Sunday through Thursday<br />
during January, February and March to accomplish this goal. Last year’s phonathon raised<br />
$187,750 in gifts and pledges from alumni and friends.<br />
Without your financial support, in any amount, we could not accomplish our goals to<br />
provide support for academic and athletic scholarships; programs and special campus projects;<br />
promote faculty and staff development and supply resources for publications, keeping WSC a<br />
vital, stimulating and exciting place. Your gifts are increasingly important, as state funding<br />
declines due to these economic times. The percentage of alumni giving is viewed as a measure of<br />
educational satisfaction and it is one of the determining factors when we apply for grants for the<br />
college.<br />
In January, February or March, an energetic and hopeful student caller will be dialing your<br />
telephone number to update your address and to ask for your tax-deductible contribution to support<br />
many worthy programs. Please consider thoughtfully the positive impact you can have upon the<br />
student calling you and the entire WSC campus. The federal government realizes private giving is<br />
essential for college campuses; therefore, <strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>State</strong> is exempt from the Do-Not-Call registry.<br />
